Chapter 3984: Child of Perfection
Moonlight spilled onto Xia De, yet it failed to illuminate the scarecrow within the ritual formation behind the gravedigger's hut. The ethereal quality in its voice grew increasingly pronounced:
"Therefore, the gestation of the Child of Perfection, the miracle that traces back to the origin, requires not only the perfect compatibility of flesh and blood but also the perfect fusion of spirit and soul, to be bred in a natural form."
"Leme adjusted her own body, bringing herself infinitely close to 'perfection,' and then processed me to meet her requirements."
"After making preparations, she summoned her own special flesh-and-blood clone and, through an extremely complex method and special power, made that clone wear me. While the clone possessed male reproductive capabilities, it also maintained her own fleshly and spiritual characteristics."
"Subsequently, the main body of Peggy Leme and the clone who called herself Nicola Leme, wearing me, conceived the next generation together through natural means, on a specific date and at a special location, in a manner akin to a ritual. Flesh and blood fused perfectly, and soul and spirit resonated perfectly, achieving..."
The words stopped abruptly, the light of the ritual gradually dimmed, and the scarecrow ceased its swaying. The effect of the "Skin-Questioning Art" vanished. Although it did not finish the second half of the sentence, Xia De could guess what it wanted to say.
The Outlander blinked, standing dumbfounded in place, his mind unable to immediately process what he had just heard.
A moment later, he took off his mask, exposing his face directly to the moonlight, his eyes staring straight at the ridiculous, motionless scarecrow:
"What?"
Mr. Copus walked over at this moment. He did not comment on the face hidden beneath Xia De's illusion but instead went to tidy up the scarecrow, peeling it away from the skin.
And while Mr. Copus worked, Xia De spoke softly:
"Mr. Copus, perhaps I shouldn't ask you this, but you are, after all, knowledgeable about this kind of relic."
His tone carried a meaning that was hard to decipher:
"If a person, assuming a female, lets her clone wear the skin, and then with herself... you understand what I mean. And during this period, the skin had not yet completely turned the clone into her own likeness, only simply bestowing... the ability."
"Then, if this female becomes pregnant, what does that mean? Did she give birth to herself?"
"You certainly shouldn't ask me this question. Although I am a Ringed Shushi who studies necromancy, I have never thought that such a thing could happen."
Mr. Copus's tone was calm; after all, this matter had nothing to do with him:
"But since you asked... this is almost impossible. The transformation of gender and flesh is not that simple; it involves many very profound disciplines."
"But if it succeeded, ethically speaking, it should be mother and daughter; the possibility of giving birth to a son does not exist. And in terms of blood relationship, it would actually be more appropriate to call them sisters. A child born this way might have a very special significance in mysticism, but that is not my field of research. I deal more with corpses and have no research on giving birth."
He put the skin back into the box and returned it to Xia De:
"The transaction is over, you may leave. Also, don't bring the big trouble from your little story to me."
Xia De almost ran out of the cemetery, immediately throwing down a crystal shoe in the small woods to return home.
Winnie had not left yet and was chatting and laughing with Luweiya on the second floor, while Little Mia was lying on the back of the sofa, feigning sleep. Then, both of them and the cat heard Xia De's rapid footsteps coming upstairs. Seeing Xia De almost rush into the second floor, Luweiya asked in surprise:
"Why are you in such a hurry? Did that metal from Mr. Copus go out of control too?"
"Of course not, the metal is fine, it's about Vigo's mother."
He did not change his clothes and stood in the living room to explain what he had heard. Even Winnie was surprised that Ms. Leme would actually conduct such an experiment:
"Giving birth to a Child of Perfection? Is she trying to trace the origin of creation to verify the 【Emerald Tablet】?"
"No, no, that's not the point."
Xia De reminded her, which was the reason he had returned in such a hurry:
"Judging from the skin's answer, she succeeded, and the only known descendant of Peggy Leme is Vigo."
Luweiya blinked and did not speak for a long time. Although all descendants of the Edwards family could be considered products of human alchemy, the experiments of Laplace Howard involved more bloodline fusion and had never involved such things:
"So that witch could also be her own aunt?"
Winnie laughed at Luweiya's question:
"Stories like this actually existed a lot in the Fourth Era. I heard quite a few when I lived in the early Fifth Era. I didn't expect that there would still be similar things in the Sixth Era."
Xia De's serious expression almost collapsed because of Luweiya's question:
"This is not important. I'm going to the Fragrant Mansion right now. The 'Moon Seal' can sense that Megan is indeed staying there tonight. Although Speaker Isabella is likely there too, I will be careful."
Xia De said, and Luweiya did not stop him this time but sent him downstairs with Winnie:
"Alright then, be careful, and come back to tell us as soon as you have results."
After leaving the Blue Ink Library, a fast-running silver cat appeared in the night of Arcadia City.
There were enough guest rooms in the Fragrant Mansion for visiting witches to stay, and the "Moon Seal" made it very easy for Xia De to locate the room where Megan was. It was not yet nine o'clock in the evening, and although she had returned to her room, Megan had not rested yet but was sitting at her desk writing the details of the subsequent negotiations with the church.
The two sisters soon caught the familiar cat meow, turned their heads to look out the window, and sure enough, the silver cat was already squatting on the windowsill.
Megan smiled, dropped her fountain pen, and hurried to the window to pick up the cat.
While Xia De returned to human form, Audrey, who had appeared behind Megan, was already helping Megan take off her clothes:
"Want to play an exciting game in Vigo's house, right? And the Speaker and Bella are there too! This idea is just great! Xia De, we can..."
Xia De held down the sisters' hands. To prevent being discovered by that Thirteenth-Tier Time Great Witch, he did not speak. His left hand took a book from the void bookshelf, wrote down the information he had just obtained, and handed the book to Megan.
Megan and Audrey then understood that Xia De had come because of an urgent matter. After the four hands took the book and read it quickly, expressions of astonishment appeared on the faces of the Edwards ladies:
"Wait a moment."
They left the room in a hurry and soon called Bella, who had already changed into her nightgown, over.
Seeing Xia De appear in Megan's room, the Countess looked suspiciously at her colleague, but soon she also saw the content on the book Xia De handed over, and she was equally astonished:
"You mean, Vigo is that..."
A new sentence appeared on the book:
【I rushed over tonight just to verify this conjecture immediately.】
Bella and Megan looked at each other, their thoughts identical:
"We'll pretend we don't know yet. You go find Vigo now, tell her about this, and suggest she inform us and the Speaker. Let's go to the Astley family cemetery while it's still night."
Xia De nodded, reached out to hold the two in his arms, and then disappeared after locating Vigo's room.
Viga's room is actually equipped with a ritual that prevents spatial movement, though this ritual has canceled its restrictions on Xia De.
It was still early, and Viga was not resting; instead, she was chatting in the room with her student, Miss MacDonald, wanting to let her take this opportunity to get closer to Megan, so that it would be very convenient to become Megan's apprentice in the future.
Xia De's appearance startled them both. Viga's face suddenly flushed red, perhaps thinking of something, and she then prepared to send her student away.
However, Xia De shook his head. The privacy protection in Viga's room was excellent, and he could speak with peace of mind here:
"I know there are three other Great Witches staying here tonight, but I really have encountered an emergency situation that I must tell you about. In a while, you had best ask them for help."
Xia De signaled for Miss MacDonald not to leave, then he first walked toward Viga, hugged her, and patted her on the back, before letting her sit down first, only then beginning to speak of the things he had just learned.
"That skin has already answered my question."
And after hearing Xia De's account, Viga's expression could no longer be described in words:
"So, Mother and that skin engaged in... could I possibly be the product of Mother and the skin..."
"Although your features have the charm of your father, judging lineage solely from appearance will always have errors.
So, to be safe, go verify whether you have a blood connection with the Astley family, and you will know who your father truly is. Although this is somewhat unpleasant, go to your family's cemetery. Call the other three Great Witches; with them there, nothing will go wrong regardless."
Xia De looked at the tall young lady, whose face had turned pale at this moment because she had imagined the scene Xia De described:
"Go call Miss Lorin, and also give her instructions. Discovering this possibility was something Viga saw from the depths of her soul as reflections when she was having a nightmare just now. Let Viga calm down first, and in a while, let Miss Lorin go notify the other three Great Witches to come here."
"Then what can I do for this?"
Miss MacDonald asked with a trembling voice.
"After calling Miss Lorin, you should also take a rest for the time being. This matter..."
"Wuu..."
Viga buried herself in Xia De's arms and began to cry. The tall young lady then left temporarily to find Miss Lorin. Xia De felt that whatever he said at this moment would be inappropriate, so he could only hold Viga in his arms.
By the time Miss MacDonald and Miss Lorin returned, Viga had already stopped crying, yet she still buried her head in Xia De's arms, sobbing from time to time. It took her a long time to fully stabilize her emotions, and she looked at Xia De with swollen eyes, asking again:
"Will you go to the cemetery with us?"
