Chapter 4044: Vigo and Winnie

~10 min read 1,923 words

Vigo felt a little regretful:

"This technology can only transform ordinary human eyes, and it has no effect on magic eyes. It's a pity that my eyes are not that strong. If my eyes could isolate the influence of disaster

Xia De held her and laughed. Vigor had made him gradually adapt to such intimacy, and he had to admit that Vigor's strategy was very effective:

"And whose eyes could withstand the power of calamity? Even I would not do such a thing. I already have the mark on my palm, so I don't need this technique. However, you can try to study the mark on my palm later; perhaps this could give you the opportunity to further improve your mother's technique."

"Of course."

Vigor smiled, continuing to lie lazily in Xia De's arms like a cat:

"Perhaps our second fire seed will be born in my hands in the future."

Xia De then thought again of the fire seed from the Fifth Era, but he subsequently remembered that there was someone whose eyes might be able to withstand the power of calamity. But he was unwilling to make such an attempt; after all, no one could bear the consequences of a failed attempt.

【The left eye of Iluna Beiyasi does indeed possess the potential to be transformed into a fire seed.】

"She" said gently, and asked Xia De a question:

【Besides flesh and blood and the red moon, what other power can you think of that can coexist harmoniously with life energy?】

Xia De knew what "She" wanted to express:

"The source of all things growing, the sun."

"She" smiled gently, while Xia De held Vigor and said nothing more about it. Miss Luolin, standing at the door, had not heard any voices inside the room for a long time. When she peeked in, she discovered that Vigor, who was being held by Xia De, had fallen asleep at some point.

The fading of the blood brew's effects caused fatigue to surge back, and in an environment of absolute safety, Vigor fell into a deep sleep.

Xia De shook his head at Miss Luolin, signaling her not to come over, and he spent this peaceful Tuesday afternoon holding this witch, about whom he did not know what else he would discover in the future.

Vigor had a strange dream, in which she felt like she was sleeping on a soft cloud. Then she heard her mother's voice, a voice exactly the same as the one echoing in the depths of her soul.

And after passing through the thirteen stone arches and entering deep underground, she saw on the calm black water the mother she had previously only seen in photographs. Her figure was somewhat blurry, but her voice was very clear—

"Go find your sister and piece her back together."

The mother in the dream said. Vigor wanted to answer that she was already doing so, but she could not speak the words.

"If you cannot do it, you must give birth to your own descendants. As long as the bloodline is not broken, there is still hope."

The mother in the dream said again. Vigor wanted to tell her that she had already chosen the path of a witch and therefore could not leave behind any descendants of her own by any means, but she could not speak this sentence either.

"Vigor~ Vigor~"

At this moment, a voice came again from the high sky in the far distance. When Vigor looked up, she opened her eyes in reality and saw the sunset's rays spilling over Xia De's face. He was smiling very gently:

"It's getting late. Miss Luolin said the maids have prepared dinner. Let's eat something first, and then go see the opera in a while."

The sunset light made Xia De's face look golden. Vigor, having just woken up from her dream, was stunned for a moment and subconsciously raised her hand to touch Xia De's face. It wasn't until she felt the temperature of Xia De's skin that she suddenly woke up, and she couldn't help but cough as she sat up from Xia De's arms.

Looking out the window now, the brilliant sunset had already illuminated the ancient white stone buildings of Arcadia's Upper City; dusk had arrived.

"Did I sleep all afternoon? Is the last day of being alone coming to an end too?"

She said with a sense of loss, and looked at Xia De with an apologetic expression:

"Sorry, is your arm very sore?"

"It's okay, and today isn't over yet. Aren't we going to see the opera?"

"I still feel like I wasted very precious time."

Vigor kissed Xia De on the side of his face like a dragonfly skimming the water, and then jumped off the sofa:

"I'll go change my clothes. We'll have dinner together in half an hour, and then go see the opera."

Although it was already evening, there was indeed enough time. But considering that they might return late tonight, and the information obtained from the alchemist in the afternoon was very important, Xia De also stood up:

"I'll go back for a while too, and I'll be back on time for dinner."

"Then I'll wait for you to come back."

Vigor said with a smile, watching Xia De throw the crystal shoe and leave.

The dim yellow light of the sunset also shone into the window of No. 6 Saint Deran Plaza at this time, making the cat lying on the windowsill watching the pigeons look golden. Xia De had thought Galina or Luweiya would be at home, but after arriving home, he found that only Winnie was preparing dinner for Little Mia.

The maid had already known that Xia De would not be home for dinner tonight, so seeing Xia De walk up from downstairs, she asked with some surprise:

"Did something happen?"

"I obtained important information from Arcadia, and I wanted to share it with Luweiya or Galina. Did neither of them come?"

Winnie shook her head:

"When I came over ten minutes ago, only Little Mia was at home."

"Meow~"

The cat jumped off the windowsill and ran toward Xia De. After being picked up by Xia De, it climbed onto his shoulder. Xia De understood the cat's meaning immediately:

"You want to go out with me?"

"Meow~"

The cat meowed. Xia De highly suspected that this cat knew the dinner in Arcadia was more sumptuous. However, Winnie was already preparing the cat's dinner. Xia De hesitated for a moment and said to Winnie:

"I'm taking Little Mia to Vigor's place. Winnie, if you have nothing to do tonight, come with us. I'll introduce you to Vigor and let Vigor get to know you too."

Winnie certainly had nothing to do tonight, but the maid hesitated for a moment:

"Is it appropriate to let her meet me now?"

"There's nothing inappropriate about it. On the contrary, I feel it's inappropriate for you to return to Fatumunster Island alone now."

Xia De took her hand:

"But there's a problem now: how are you going to get to Arcadia?"

Winnie showed a smile:

"I'll just fly there. I'm not a human, and a Twelfth-Ring level is enough for me to do many things humans cannot imagine."

Winnie's true form was a chill, or rather, a stream of extreme cold air, and the investigative rituals set up by the church in the city did not have a strong perception of such existences.

Because of this, after Xia De and Little Mia reappeared in the Blue Ink Library and waited for another twenty minutes, Winnie in her human flesh form pushed open the library door and walked in.

"Master."

She lowered her head and said softly. Xia De noticed that her human appearance had light makeup on today, though it was hard to tell without looking closely.

The light rain from the afternoon had stopped, and the road back to the Upper City was easy to walk. But even so, Xia De's arrival time back at the Fragrant Mansion was ten minutes later than he had promised Vigor. After he knocked open the mansion gate, he indeed saw Vigor waiting in the foyer.

The witch was just about to complain a little, when she saw the cute cat standing on Xia De's shoulder, followed by a young girl who looked somewhat shy, and the latter was even wearing a standard maid outfit.

"This is..."

"This is the maid I mentioned to you this morning, her name is Winnie. When I went back just now, this cat wanted to follow me out, so I thought it would be better to bring Winnie along too. When we watch the opera tonight, she can help me take care of Little Mia."

Vigor then tried to superimpose the image of the fat aunt she had imagined in the morning onto the beautiful young maid in front of her, but in the end, she could only accept the fact that she had probably thought wrong.

At this moment, Winnie was showing her flesh-and-blood body, but when Vigor looked at her, she could also feel that she was somewhat strange. However, although the Witch Council knew of Winnie's existence, Vigor had never seen Winnie, so of course, it was impossible for her to connect this delicate and moving girl in front of her with the "ice elemental life" rumored to live in the ice and snow castle.

She was not angry that Xia De brought a maid along; instead, she felt that Xia De was paving the way to explain his true identity. So, after a slight surprise, she, as the mistress of the mansion, welcomed Winnie's arrival gracefully, then took Xia De's arm and went to the dining room with him.

Although she received an invitation, Winnie did not sit down to dine with the two of them, but instead served Xia De as a maid. She clearly intended to show off in front of the modern chaotic Great Witch, but unfortunately, Vigor did not grasp this layer of meaning.

Little Mia, on the other hand, enjoyed the dinner very happily and was very willing to continue going out with Xia De after dinner.

The place where Vigor invited Xia De to watch the opera was the "Queen Anne Theater" located in the Upper City of Arcadia. Queen Anne was a female monarch of the Anjou royal family about three hundred years ago. The theater was renamed back then as Arcadia's way of showing loyalty to the Anjou royal family.

The opera house was not far from the Fragrant Mansion. After leaving the Fragrant Mansion, one first headed to Scholar Square, then turned into the road on the right side of the Mechanical Tower. After driving for a distance toward the higher part of the mountain, one could see the ancient opera house at the end of the road.

This opera house was built during the Delin-Or Kingdom era and had been renovated many times in modern times. It was the largest building in the city with the highest elevation, besides the "Candlekeep Library."

Vigor had of course booked a box at the opera house. She also had her own plans and certainly didn't want to be squeezed into the crowd with no chance to chat with Xia De. Accompanying Xia De and Vigor, besides Winnie and Little Mia, were Miss Luolin and three other maids.

Miss MacDonald was in charge of watching the potion laboratory tonight, so she did not come along.
