Chapter 455: Witch's Song
"Xia De, I need to take you to a town. We will depart from Coldwater Port Station by steam train and arrive at our destination in three hours. If we can achieve our goal before dusk, we will return the same day. If not, I'm afraid we'll have to stay overnight in the country town."
It seems that obtaining the 【Vibration】 spiritual rune requires contact with something that cannot be moved.
"Okay, Miss Aurora, when shall we depart?"
Xia De asked. He had been free for the past few weeks. Detective Sparrow's commission could be postponed; the spiritual rune was the most important thing.
"If it's convenient for you, we will depart at nine o'clock tomorrow morning."
Xia De calculated the time:
"That's fine. However, where is the specific location? Do I need to prepare anything in advance?"
Xia De asked again.
Miss Aurora pointed to the map of the Coldwater Port area on the study wall:
"A country town in Klein City, east of Coldwater Port, Hekils Town. Prepare the spellcasting materials in advance, nothing else is needed... However, you need to do me a favor."
Witches all like to set conditions like this.
"Please speak."
"I want to invite you to participate in a ritual, right here in the manor, right now. You just need to stand behind me."
She said this, looking Xia De up and down, as if judging whether he was qualified to participate in the ritual.
"Will there be danger?"
"There will absolutely be no danger. How about I swear by the reputation of the Aurora family?"
The witch asked with a smile, and Xia De felt slightly relieved.
But Miss Aurora was not Miss Galina after all, and Xia De did not trust her completely:
"Then what do we need to do?"
He only thought that Miss Aurora wanted to test some rituals that required an assistant.
"Very simple, follow me, put your cute cat here, the servants will take care of it."
So Xia De followed this lady out of the study. After passing through the corridor inside the third floor of the manor mansion, they came to the outermost corridor near the edge of the mansion.
On one side of the corridor were rooms with closed doors, and on the other side were windows that let in the warm breeze.
They didn't continue to move, Miss Aurora hesitated for a moment before saying softly to Xia De:
"Follow me, walk through the corridor in front."
There was nothing special about the corridor in front; Xia De had walked here three or four times. He let the voice in his heart feel it, but didn't find any traces of elements.
"Do I just need to follow you?"
"Of course, this ritual is very simple."
Miss Aurora nodded:
"But remember, you must keep up with me, and never get lost."
"Get lost?"
Xia De asked in surprise, but Miss Aurora didn't intend to answer him.
"Then are you ready, Mr. Hamilton, please follow me."
She coughed to clear her throat:
"You must keep up with me, I'm going to start."
The witch took a deep breath, and she actually started to sing:
"The princess in the castle won't understand, the freedom of walking in the world is what we pursue."
"Meeting a witch at the crossroads full of lavender, where are you going, to pick that bunch of herbs."
A sudden breeze blew in from the window, causing the cyan handmade textile curtains on one side of the corridor to flutter up and down. Miss Shivi Aurora, wearing a red dress, walked forward, crossing the floor, entering the sunlight from the shadow area at the corner of the corridor, and Xia De followed immediately.
Sunlight spilled from the windows onto the cleaned corridor floor, making the clean floor reflect dazzling light. The shadows of the window frames divided the sunlight into irregular squares on the floor, and Xia De and the witch walked over amidst the fluttering curtains. Standing behind her, Xia De could smell the scent on the witch's hair.
That was a special perfume known as "Witch's Scent," and only a very small number of people's sense of smell could detect this scent. But unlike the perfumes of Miss Galina and Miss Servit, Miss Aurora's perfume seemed to be mixed with other spices.
"Picking up white snow on the top of the snow mountain, watching the sun in the depths of the desert."
"If you can meet us, dear girl~~"
She continued to sing. This was not the common language of the Sixth Era, but Xia De had heard this singing and remembered these lyrics. Under the giant tree in the Forest of a Thousand Trees, Miss Feliana had once sung this song very lonely. (Note)
The singing was soft and slow, with a touch of melancholy. Amidst the fluttering curtains, Xia De saw the light in front of the corridor suddenly dim. As they moved forward, the light around them gradually disappeared, and even the appearance of the corridor changed:
"Please call our names softly, please ask your doubts."
"In the flower bushes where lilies bloom, or, where sunflowers face west."
This was not an illusion. At some point, they had entered a narrow brick passage from the sun-drenched mansion corridor. There was no very clear boundary between the corridor and the passage. In some areas, the windows and bricks seemed to be completely integrated, and moving forward, they entered the passage completely.
Xia De wanted to turn his head to look behind him to confirm how the two were integrated, but worried about "getting lost," so he could only stare at the witch's back in front and follow her forward step by step.
The ground was paved with white ash, and the two left clear footprints. Torches were inserted on the walls, illuminating the narrowness and dilapidation of the brick passage. This place looked like an ancient ruin that had experienced long years. But Xia De felt that it was inexplicably familiar:
"It's not the merman's temple, although the style is similar, it's obviously not, it's not damp here. It's not the corridor of Terror Castle either, the walls there have spaces for oil lamps, here are torches."
And when his eyes crossed Miss Aurora's shoulder and looked forward, he finally understood the familiarity.
"Please wear a beautiful dress and pick up purple thyme."
"The person you love and the person who loves you are all here, in this sun-drenched hall."
The singing came to an end, and the passage came to an end. Ahead, white fog drifted out like silk from that extremely familiar white fog door. Miss Aurora stopped, sighed softly, and then turned to look at Xia De.
At the moment their eyes met, Xia De was very sure that he saw surprise in her eyes.
"Very good, you didn't get lost."
The witch said, looking Xia De up and down. Suddenly, she reached out, wanting to touch his face.
"Oh, lady, that's not polite."
Xia De grabbed the witch's wrist, and the latter could be grabbed by him, presumably voluntarily.
"Yes, it is a bit impolite."
She suddenly leaned close to Xia De. As their eyes met, Xia De could smell the strange perfume even more clearly:
"I'm just very happy that you really didn't get lost."
Saying this, she pulled her wrist out of Xia De's hand, and then made a gesture of invitation toward the white fog door with a smile:
"Now, Knight, please enter with me." ===== CHAPTER 456 =====
