Chapter 544: Afterword for Volume Two
Afterword for Volume Two
Volume Two, "The Man Who Devours Darkness," has officially concluded. I originally planned for about 200 chapters, but it actually reached 250. There shouldn't be such long volumes in the future; otherwise, even the author can't imagine how many words this book will end up having.
The final scene of Volume One was Xia De and the doctor with their backs to the burning building, Xia De looking back, the doctor lowering his head, the two walking side by side on the street. The final scene of Volume Two is looking from the street of the Steam Era toward the second-floor window; in the thin mist, Xia De gazes into the distance, and the doctor watches Xia De.
The adventures in Coldwater Port and Tobeisk have temporarily ended. After the "Big City Player" arc, Xia De will embark on brand-new adventures. The theme of the next volume is "Death." Xia De, having entered the Third Tier, will experience more exciting stories. As for the secrets of the other four members of the group, so far only the symptoms have been roughly described; the individual plot lines for the four of them have just begun.
Some people view this book as a large-scale single-player game, and it is indeed very similar. For example, the cat Mia is a pet system, but if raised well, it will affect the ending. No. 6 St. Deran Square is a home system, constantly increasing functions as the plot progresses, which means doors that can be entered. Xia De's relationship with everyone is a favorability system; reaching a certain value unlocks achievements like free divination, gifting of magic potions, and exclusive quests. Even after reaching maximum favorability, you can unlock an NPC team system (referring to using the Time Key and Space Statue to turn into toys), summoning NPCs to assist in combat in time dungeons and maps where NPCs shouldn't appear (like Priest Ao Gu Si not being able to appear in Coldwater Port).
But the protagonist of the story is definitely not just Xia De. Only after understanding the stories of the doctor, the priest, Luweiya, and Duoluqian can one fully understand what kind of story this really is. If this were a single-player game, you would need to use four characters first to complete four story lines. Each character has an exclusive system; for example, the doctor has a demon quest system, the priest has church work and 【Redacted】 quests, Luweiya has daily quests and 【Redacted】 quests for the Diviner's Association, and Duoluqian and Lei Qianya have the Cavendish family legends, court politics routes, dual-perspective quests, and combat character-switching systems. Only after completing all the plots of these four initial characters can you use the final character—the Outlander, Xia De.
Saying so much is just hoping that everyone can continue to support this book, and I also welcome opinions from legitimate readers.
The story of "Whispering Poetry" (also known as "Detective Knight's Tale" or "Sword of the Silver Moon") has just begun, and after 【Darkness】, please look forward to Volume Three, 【All Things Have an End】. ===== CHAPTER 545 =====
