Chapter 402: As a Duelist

Book of Eclipse, all monsters changed to face-down Defense Position!

Xiang Hongye: "!"

As a champion, he immediately realized what this meant.

Originally, monsters summoned using "Chain Material" would all self-destruct at the end of the turn, but if they were changed to face-down Defense Position, this risk could be avoided... No, even more than that.

Even if these monsters were flipped back to face-up state later, they would not self-destruct due to the side effect of Chain Material.

Because once changed to face-down Defense Position, these monsters are considered to have left the field once. Flipping them back over is equivalent to refreshing their state, and the information of "Special Summoned using the effect of Chain Material" is lost, so they will not self-destruct because of it.

"There's this move too..."

Xiang Hongye gritted his teeth.

This guy... so strong.

Although he didn't want to admit it, even if the opponent was using Elemental HEROes and likely hadn't even used his original deck at all, not taking him seriously at all, he could still feel this person's strength.

This opponent should be the strongest he had ever encountered in his career as a duelist.

"Activate the Spell Card 'Card of Burial Spell'. Banish 'Book of Eclipse', 'Card of Sanctity', and 'Fusion Gate' from the Graveyard from the game, and draw two cards." (Original card)

The Arbiter drew two cards.

"Set three more cards, turn end," the Arbiter said indifferently. "Originally 'Book of Eclipse' had a subsequent effect."

"During the End Phase, all face-down monsters on the opponent's field are changed to face-up, and the opponent can draw cards from the deck based on that number."

"But now you don't have a single monster on your field, so this effect is naturally meaningless."

He paused and said.

"Alright, then please continue to let me see, World Champion Xiang Hongye. Just how far your soul can burn."

"That's exactly what I intended."

Xiang Hongye coughed twice more and said firmly.

"My turn, draw!"

The opponent's five powerful heroes all remained on the field; whether in terms of life points or the field, the opponent was absolutely in the lead.

But even so, he would never give up.

Even if he died, he would fight until the last moment.

Xiang Hongye, who had already put life and death aside, felt a bit more relaxed in his heart, and even felt that in his life as a duelist, he had never been as pure as this moment of near-death.

So he simply stopped thinking too much, just let himself be fully immersed in this duel, and unfolded the duel following his own heart.

"Activate the Spell Card 'Book of Magic in the Pot', both players draw three cards from the deck." (Original card)

Xiang Hongye drew three more cards.

"Next, activate the Spell Card 'Card Reversal'," Xiang Hongye said. "Discard one card from the hand, and you can change the battle position of all monsters on the opponent's field."

He discarded a card from his hand to the Graveyard.

"All your monsters on the field return to Attack Position!"

【Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer, ATK 2600】

【Elemental HERO Great Tornado, ATK 3300】

【Elemental HERO Infernal Gainer, ATK 3000】

【Elemental HERO Nova Master, ATK 3100】

【Elemental HERO Shining Flare Wingman, ATK 5500】

The five face-down cards turned back to attack, and the five great heroes stood in front of Xiang Hongye like a continuous mountain range.

"Still chose to respond head-on, huh," the Arbiter said indifferently.

"Heroes can't run away from battle," Xiang Hongye smiled. "I activate the Spell Card 'Polymerization'! Fuse 'Elemental HERO Bubbleman' from my hand and the WIND 'Elemental HERO Avian'!"

"The Fusion condition is an Elemental HERO plus any WIND monster, Fusion Summon—"

"—Elemental HERO Great Tornado!"

The WIND Fusion hero of the same style as the one used by the Arbiter descended with arms crossed amidst the howling gale!

"The effect of Great Tornado, when this card is successfully Fusion Summoned, the ATK and DEF of all opponent's monsters are halved!" Xiang Hongye shouted. "Downburst!"

When the Arbiter summoned Great Tornado just now, Xiang Hongye had an empty field with no monsters, so this effect did not take effect.

And now the storm swept across the Arbiter's entire field, and the five great heroes on the opposite side all seemed to be crumbling under the agitation of the airflow, weakened by a large margin.

【Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer, ATK 2600 → ATK 1300】

【Elemental HERO Great Tornado, ATK 3300 → ATK 1650】

【Elemental HERO Infernal Gainer, ATK 3000 → ATK 1500】

【Elemental HERO Nova Master, ATK 3100 → ATK 1550】

【Elemental HERO Shining Flare Wingman, ATK 5500 → ATK 2750】

"Great!" Judai said. "With this, it's a massive weakening!"

Xiang Hongye continued: "Next, activate the Spell Card 'Fusion Recovery', return 'Elemental HERO Bubbleman' sent to the Graveyard as Fusion Material and the Spell Card 'Polymerization' to the hand!"

Two cards returned to his hand, and then he immediately played them again.

"Activate the Spell Card 'Polymerization' again, this time fuse 'Elemental HERO Clayman' and 'Elemental HERO Bubbleman' from my hand!"

"The Fusion condition is a Hero plus any WATER monster, Fusion Summon—"

"—Elemental HERO Absolute Zero!!!"

Ice and snow descended from the sky, and the spreading ice crystals seemed to freeze the entire field. The white cape fluttered in the wind and snow, and the pure white hero descended here!

Xiang Hongye's strongest trump card besides the Planet series, Absolute Zero!

【Elemental HERO Absolute Zero, ATK 2500】

"Next, activate the Spell Card 'Monster Reborn'!" Xiang Hongye said. "Su Sheng my trump card from the Graveyard, my soul—"

"—Elemental HERO Earth!!!"

The earth shattered, lava surged, like an angry fire dragon soaring into the sky. Surrounded by lava, the white giant representing the planet Earth descended with a bang, shaking up a sky-high dust curtain again when it landed.

【Elemental HERO Earth, ATK 2500】

Of course, the physical card Earth, like other Fusion heroes, cannot be Special Summoned by methods other than Fusion. But Earth, which is often revived in various fancy ways in the manga, naturally does not have this restriction.

"Activate set card, Continuous Trap 'DNA Transplant'!" Xiang Hongye said. "Can change all monsters on the field to the declared attribute."

"I want to declare WATER attribute!"

The water flow soared into the sky, wrapping all the monsters on both sides of the field within it.

"A card that changes attributes?" the Arbiter said.

"'Elemental HERO Absolute Zero', its ATK increases by 500 for each WATER monster on the field other than itself," Xiang Hongye said. "The five monsters on your field and the two heroes on my field other than Absolute Zero all become WATER attribute."

"Therefore, Absolute Zero's ATK increases by a total of..."

【Elemental HERO Absolute Zero, ATK 2500 → ATK 6000】

"ATK becomes 6000!!!"
