Chapter 93: Just My Master
The Dark Duelist Titan, though he calls himself a Dark Duelist, was in fact exposed by Jaden as a fraud.
He uses hypnotic techniques to make opponents believe they are engaging in a soul-staking Dark Duel, and he enjoys forcibly taking their rare cards after the duel.
People like him are not recognized as true Dark Duelists on the streets; they are called “Rare Card Hunters,” a type universally despised by both lawful and criminal circles.
In the plot, Titan was hired by Professor Cronos to come to the island specifically to deal with the underperforming Jaden—this is the darkest flaw in Professor Greed’s character.
However, from his attitude toward Dark Duels in the Seven Stars arc and his reaction upon encountering Titan a second time, it’s clear that Professor Greed at the time did not believe Dark Duels even existed; his main goal was simply to get Jaden expelled.
“Oh oh, rare opportunity! Yu Xuan, wanna duel?” Jaden, gripped by card lust, said, “I’ve been wanting to duel for ages.”
“Huh? Here?” Hayato scratched his head. “That’s not a good idea.”
Marik: “Come to think of it, I heard if you get caught trespassing in restricted areas, you get expelled. Big bro, let’s just go back.”
“No problem.” Jaden crossed his arms, radiating inexplicable confidence. “Look—even Yu Xuan, a model student, is here, isn’t he?”
Yu Xuan thought: No, even if we get caught, I’ll probably be fine. Only you two will get expelled.
In the anime, Jaden and Asuka were clearly caught together trespassing in the restricted zone, yet only Jaden and his group faced punishment. Asuka voluntarily petitioned the principal to share their penalty, but was refused.
Duel Academy is a place where strength and grades determine everything.
Besides, he still has Keihei’s contact info—roughly speaking, he has someone on the board of directors; getting expelled isn’t that easy.
Another sound of a snapped branch echoed behind them.
“Waaah! A ghost really appeared this time!” Hayato and Marik huddled together again.
But when they turned again, it was Asuka.
“You guys?” Asuka was surprised. “What are you doing here? And—”
She glanced curiously at Yu Xuan.
“Aren’t you from the Yellow Dorm? How are you with Jaden and the others?”
“Just a nighttime stroll. Ran into them.” Yu Xuan said.
“This isn’t a place for strolling,” Asuka said seriously. “Haven’t you heard? Many students have vanished here!”
“We’ve heard. That’s exactly why we came to explore,” Jaden laughed, his nerves as thick as armor. “It’s just rumors. Nothing to worry about.”
“It’s not a rumor,” Asuka said sternly. “Many students really have disappeared here. And this area is strictly off-limits—if the school finds out, there’ll be chaos.”
Jaden’s bizarre confidence: “Hmph, if you’re afraid of things like this, you can’t go exploring.”
“Listen to me seriously!” Asuka grew slightly angry. “This is a serious matter. This isn’t a place to play around.”
“What’s with you? Why are you here so late?” Jaden asked, puzzled.
“Fine, do as you please.”
Asuka huffed, turned away, took a few steps, then paused, inhaling deeply.
“One of the missing students… was my brother.”
She walked off without looking back.
Jaden’s smile faded. He frowned, deep in thought.
“Big bro, the old dorm story… doesn’t sound made up,” Marik whispered.
“Mm. Doesn’t matter. Let’s go inside and see.” Jaden stepped over the barrier, glanced at Yu Xuan. “You coming too?”
Yu Xuan shrugged and followed.
The spirit’s reaction should be inside. Might as well go in.
Of course, he hadn’t forgotten the Rare Card Hunter lurking behind them.
Moonlight filtered through scattered clouds, casting eerie shadows on the dorm’s outer walls—twisting, stretching, shifting.
The man pushed open the weathered wooden door and stepped slowly into the dilapidated dorm. His frame was strikingly broad; he wore a loose black robe and a tall, rounded hat. A metallic mask covered half his face, and his Duel Disk was unusually mounted on his chest.
The Rare Card Hunter who called himself the Dark Duelist: Titan.
Today, he had come for this student named Yu Cheng Jaden.
The interior of the old dorm was unnervingly eerie. Broken beds, overturned chairs and tables littered the floor, coated in thick dust and spiderwebs. The air reeked of decay, and gusts of cold wind stirred a chorus of strange echoes.
He had heard the rumors about this old dorm—that many students vanished here, that vengeful spirits wandered the halls. But he naturally scoffed at them; a hardened man like him could never be frightened by ghostly tales.
“Hm?”
Titan wondered if he’d imagined it.
But out of the corner of his eye, he thought he’d glimpsed a white-clad specter flicker past a shard of broken glass?
Titan jumped, whirled around in alarm—but when he looked, the dark corridor stood empty, save for the hollow frames of shattered windows rattling eerily in the wind.
“Just an illusion.”
Yet as he turned back, he caught another glimpse that made his hair stand on end.
Only a fleeting moment—but he’d seen a woman.
A woman as white as snow, her robes fluttering, grotesquely vivid against the gloom. Her long white hair hung loose, her entire body radiating chilling yin energy. The wind howling through the halls sounded like the wails of tormented souls, sending ice down his spine.
“Waaah!”
The tough guy screamed.
Titan cried out, stumbled back two steps, staring in terror at the spot—but when he looked again, it was empty. Not a single ghostly trace remained.
Even with his self-proclaimed iron will, he now felt half his body plunged into an icy grave; his breath grew heavy.
Holy shit, the ghost stories were real!
This terrifying encounter, this spectral vision, shattered his decades-old materialist worldview into dust.
Right—didn’t they say the vengeful spirits here were former students who vanished in this old dorm?
Titan gathered his courage, trembling: “U-um… I’m just passing through. I didn’t kill you. But don’t worry—I’ll find someone to investigate when I get out. I’ll… I’ll clear your names…”
He couldn’t stay another second. He spun around and bolted.
No more missions. No more rare cards. This school was cursed—he’d never set foot here again in his life.
But as Titan turned—
The white-clad ghost had somehow appeared directly behind him, pressed against his back. His sudden turn triggered an unannounced jump-scare; a wave of yin energy slammed into his face, freezing his heart and lungs in an instant.
“Aaaaaah!!!”
“.”
The Silent Magician pushed aside her silver hair, tangled by her master into this messy style, and stole a glance at the man.
Hmm. Looks like he fainted.
She adjusted her hair, pouting slightly, then removed Titan’s Duel Disk.
Truthfully, she wasn’t very fond of doing this.
She was a noble Light Magic Spirit—yet her master had ordered her to dress as a ghost and steal card decks.
It always felt like she’d joined up with a duelist whose vibe was completely off—like she’d boarded a pirate ship.
Whatever.
Just my master’s task.
