Chapter 943: Become the Boss
You Xuan roughly understood. This WRGP’s primary purpose was still to summon the Arc Cradle, but mainly to prepare for and attempt to ambush the Muhou invader in a decisive battle.
The reason for advancing it was that Zone had begun to feel threatened. The original WRGP schedule had been set for a year from now, but given the current situation, the enemy might not grant them that much time to prepare.
This also meant that You Xing and the others needed to progress faster than they had in the anime timeline, with far less time left.
“All three Emperors of Taiyi will attend the tournament.”
Zone said.
“They will be the main opponents of Bu Dong You Xing and his companions. Once Bu Dong You Xing overcomes the barrier of the ‘Synchro Killer,’ he will reach a new realm more swiftly.”
It seemed Zone had long anticipated that his Three Emperors were unlikely to match You Xing and his team. Even with the Wangpai “Synchro Killer,” even as Taiyi’s leader and Zone’s top general, they ultimately couldn’t overcome the cheat-ridden 5DS team.
Zone: “Aside from the Three Emperors, the ‘Ragnarok Team’—the top duelists from Scandinavia—will likely also appear in the upcoming WRGP.”
“They will be the second major obstacle You Xing must overcome; surmounting this will also be a milestone for them.”
Zone paused, then turned his gaze to You Xuan.
“And finally—”
You Xuan raised an eyebrow: “You want me to fight again? Haven’t I already fought them all?”
Well, as long as there’s payment next time, he wouldn’t mind stepping in.
But Zone said: “No, this time you won’t be a whetstone for Bu Dong You Xing—but if you’re willing to join the WRGP, that would be best.”
You Xuan thought for a moment: “To collect more duel energy?”
The WRGP was held precisely to gather duel energy; if someone of his royal caliber participated, efficiency would certainly improve.
“That’s one reason. The other, as I just said, is that if the Muhou invader plans to act during the WRGP, they’ll likely send anomalies to target you.”
You Xuan smiled: “Oh, so I’m bait?”
Zone said: “If you wish to interpret it that way, fine. But whether you accept is up to you.”
You Xuan gave a light laugh.
“Well, I can play bait. After all, one of my main reasons for coming to this dimension was to confront the Muhou hand myself.”
Before he finished speaking, Zone calmly interjected: “You want more money, right?”
“No wonder you’re the Zone God.” You Xuan feigned admiration. “Your ability to read minds is incredible!”
Zone’s expression remained blank, utterly silent.
Yet his silence seemed to say: Do you really need any special ability to understand that?
He might as well have written “money” on his face. No—accurately speaking, ordinary people wanted money; this man wanted cards.
In this world, cards were worth more than money. Rare cards could be exchanged for wealth rivaling nations, but wealth could never buy the top-tier cards—especially when the stakes involved world-ending power.
“The Muhou hand has also invaded my dimension,” You Xuan said. “I came here originally to test them. In fact, when I first replaced Godwin, my goal was to lure them into attacking me—but all I got were minor pests.”
“And now my disguise has been blown.”
You Xuan shook his head in regret.
Zone fell silent.
Even Rudog, the head of the Dark Signers, was considered a pest?
Fine. For a Duel King, such a claim was justified.
“Though you’ve lost Godwin’s identity, you don’t necessarily need to be Godwin to draw attention,” Zone said. “What matters isn’t Rex Godwin—it’s the position of Chief of the Peacekeeping Bureau.”
With the authority and power of the Chief, you can naturally guide events more easily.”
In Season Three of the 5DS anime, though Godwin had left, the position of Chief of the Peacekeeping Bureau remained firmly under Taiyi’s control.
Taiyi then stopped bothering with puppets altogether and had the Three Emperors take the roles directly.
With no background or public record, the Three Emperors were abruptly appointed as the new Chiefs of the Peacekeeping Bureau. Through the bureau’s authority, they directly pushed forward the WRGP’s organization and much of its pre-event work.
You Xuan seemed to guess what Zone meant: “You want me to take over the Peacekeeping Bureau myself?”
Now that he thought about it, it made sense. In the anime, Taiyi’s trio had also appeared out of nowhere—completely unknown to the public and the bureau alike—so replacing the Chief with anyone else wouldn’t matter.
An outsider like You Xuan, appearing from nowhere, could just as easily fill the role.
“But according to the original plan, the Chief is supposed to be one of your Taiyi Emperors,” You Xuan said. “If you suddenly change it, won’t your organization object?”
To his surprise, Zone regarded him with deep meaning for a moment, then suddenly asked: “What if I handed Taiyi over to you entirely? Would you be interested?”
You Xuan froze, staring through Zone’s thick nautilus shell for a long while, as if trying to pierce his intentions with his gaze.
“Are you serious?”
Zone said: “Do I look like the type who jokes?”
You Xuan frowned.
“You know we’re only cooperating because our interests align. I’m not even from this dimension,” You Xuan said. “Once this is over, I’ll leave this dimension—and your organization. I have my own life, my own companions, my own world to protect. That’s why I came here.”
I have my own life, my companions, and my own world to protect. That’s why I came here.
Zone replied without hesitation, calmly.
“As you see, my life cannot be extended much longer. My companions, my organization—all will vanish when I die.”
“If we fail to stop the coming destruction, there is no future for me—or for Taiyi.”
“If we succeed, we will no longer be needed.”
“If we fail—”
He paused, his voice dark.
“—then you can return to your own dimension, absorb the experience of this world’s collapse, and ensure your world doesn’t repeat the same fate. By then, there will likely be nothing left here worth saving.”
You Xuan fell silent for several seconds, then nodded.
“I understand. If you think this is best, then I accept.”
Exiting Zone’s domain, You Xuan returned to the real world.
He slipped his hands into his pockets, tilted his head up to the sky, gazing at the blue heavens and white clouds, at the bustling, prosperous, yet peaceful city—utterly unaware of the danger approaching.
“Chief of the Peacekeeping Bureau… and leader of Taiyi?”
You Xuan murmured.
He’d only come to this dimension to stir up trouble and collect some cards.
Who knew that in less than a month, he’d ended up as the head of a boss organization?
Who would have thought that in less than a month, I’d ended up as the boss of a gang?
