Chapter 976: Discordant Counter

The fake Jack had suffered a muffled loss; the absolute kill formation he had set up so arrogantly hadn't even lasted a single turn before being ruined by a single pathetic frog.

He felt stifled, glancing at the two dragons that had just been bounced back to his hand, then looking at his empty front field, he had no choice but to grit his teeth.

With no defense on the field, he would likely be finished off by his opponent in the next turn.

Since that was the case—

"Look down on the King's duel, and you will pay the price for it!"

The fake Jack roared.

"Activate the Magic Card 'Card Destruction'!

Both players discard their entire hands, then draw the same number of cards from their decks!"

The fake Jack discarded his entire hand in one breath, including the Evil Dragon and Gale Dragon that had just been bounced back to his hand.

"At the same time, the effect of the Magic Card 'Card of Compensation' among the discarded cards allows me to draw two more cards from the deck!"

The fake Jack swept his arm, drawing cards frantically in one go, and soon he had a new handful of cards.

"Very good!"

It seemed this round of frantic drawing had indeed brought him an opportunity. The fake Jack felt slightly more at ease and raised his hand to set his backrow.

"I set four cards on the field, turn end!"

"Four set cards... tsk tsk." Fujiki You Xuan said.

The real Jack, who was riding alongside watching the battle, couldn't help but say: "Be careful, Fujiki You Xuan, this guy is strange. His strength is not weak, and he actually has the same..."

"It's fine, he's just a clumsy imitator." Fujiki You Xuan smiled faintly, "I'll tear that fake mask off for you very soon.

My turn, draw."

The real Jack remained silent on the side.

A clumsy imitator, huh?

Although he had felt the same way in his heart before, as a loser to this "clumsy imitator," he was a bit speechless at the moment.

"During this turn's Standby Phase, the effect of 'Killer Snake' discarded from the hand when summoning 'Swap Frog' last turn is activated.

During the Standby Phase of one's own turn, if Killer Snake exists in the Graveyard, it can be returned from the Graveyard to the hand."

Fujiki You Xuan shook the Killer Snake returned from the Graveyard and added it to his hand.

"Next, I activate the Magic Card 'Salvage'." Fujiki You Xuan said, "I can add two Water-attribute monsters with 1500 or less ATK from my Graveyard to my hand.

I return 'Dupe Frog' and 'Swap Frog' from the Graveyard to my hand."

Fujiki You Xuan showed two more cards and returned them to his hand.

"Next is this card..."

Fujiki You Xuan smiled mysteriously, holding a Magic Card high in his hand.

"Continuous Magic 'Card of Sanctity'!"

A legendary forbidden card, first appearing in the hands of the puppet controlled by Marik, debuting in the same duel as Osiris the Sky Dragon, its effect was simple yet exceptionally brutal.

The one in Fujiki You Xuan's hand was the physical card effect, which differed from the anime. The anime version in Mr. Marik's hands was even more brutal, allowing a draw of three cards. It was just that when Fujiki You Xuan went to the market to look for it, the Mr. Marik version was long out of print and gone, or perhaps Mr. Marik had originally used a fake card printed by the number one fake card dealer in Yu-Gi-Oh, the Ghouls organization.

Of course, although the anime version allowed for a violent draw of three cards every time a monster was revived from the Graveyard, it also had its own drawbacks. For instance, the anime version of 'Card of Sanctity' was a mandatory effect, while the physical card was an optional effect. If the anime version of 'Card of Sanctity' hadn't been mandatory, Mr. Marik wouldn't have been tricked by the Traitor Dragon into drawing his deck dry.

Additionally, although 'Card of Sanctity' is a perennial forbidden card now, it wasn't actually forbidden in the real-life physical card environment during the early to mid-5D's era; it was just a limited card. From today's perspective, wouldn't an effect like "draw one card every time a monster is revived from the Graveyard" allow one to draw the entire deck into one's hand in minutes?

But given the speed of the Yu-Gi-Oh environment up to the Synchro era, it wasn't entirely unacceptable, so 'Card of Sanctity' wasn't actually forbidden for eight years after its release, unlike what many card players think today—that it was forbidden from the very beginning.

Fujiki You Xuan: "Next is the effect of 'Swap Frog' that just returned to my hand; discard a Water-attribute monster from my hand to Special Summon Swap Frog again!"

Fujiki You Xuan discarded another card from his hand to the Graveyard, though it was easy to guess that it was likely the 'Killer Snake' he had just recovered. Killer Snake could salvage itself every turn, returning from the Graveyard to the hand, and Killer Snake was also a Water-attribute monster, which had excellent synergy with the Frog deck.

【Swap Frog, ATK 1000】

The fake Jack snorted: "You actually recovered that frog and can send another card from the deck to the Graveyard?"

"Not bad, send a Water-attribute, Aqua-type, Level 2 or lower monster from the deck to the Graveyard."

A card in Fujiki You Xuan's deck that met the conditions popped out automatically.

"I send 'Swap Frog' from the deck to the Graveyard."

"Then I activate the set card, Continuous Trap 'Limit Reverse', to Special Summon a monster with 1000 or less ATK from the Graveyard. Su Sheng from the Graveyard, Swap Frog!"

【Swap Frog, ATK 100】

Fake Jack: "Going to such great lengths, just for this frog with 100 ATK?"

Fujiki You Xuan smiled.

Only 100 ATK? I see you have absolutely no idea about the gold content of the number one forbidden card in the Frog family.

"Because I Special Summoned a monster from the Graveyard, the effect of the Continuous Magic 'Card of Sanctity' allows me to draw one card from the deck."

Fujiki You Xuan drew a card, then said faintly.

"Activate the effect of Swap Frog. Tribute one monster on my field to Special Summon a 'Frog' from the deck to the field.

I Tribute 'Dupe Frog' on my field to Special Summon 'Des Frog' from the deck!"

The small Dupe Frog turned into light points and was Tributed, and the emerald-green Des Frog, larger than a human, jumped out onto the field as a replacement.

【Des Frog, ATK 1900】

"I haven't performed a Normal Summon this turn yet." Fujiki You Xuan said, "I Normal Summon 'Fishborg Blaster' from my hand."

【Fishborg Blaster, ATK 100】

"Level 1, Tuner monster 'Fishborg Blaster'!

Level 5, 'Des Frog'!

Tuning!"

【1+5=6】

"The freezing stars condense on the tip of the blade, the spear of winter that pierces the sky! Synchro Summon—

—Level 6, Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!!!"

The biting aurora suddenly tore through the battlefield, and the hexagram array bloomed in the blizzard. The tuning monsters turned into two azure pillars of light that spiraled and intertwined, and the ice crystals in the sky condensed into the slender outline of a dragon.

The fake Jack, however, snorted heavily: "I had already seen through the fact that you would use Synchro to launch an attack!

Counter Trap 'Discordant Counter'!

This card can only be activated when the opponent performs a Synchro Summon, returning that Synchro monster to the Extra Deck, and Special Summoning the set of materials used for the Synchro Summon from the Graveyard to the opponent's field!" (Original card)

Purple energy chains shot out from the card face, precisely wrapping around the Synchro ring on Brionac's neck. The giant dragon let out a painful hiss, spiderweb-like cracks appeared on its ice-crystal body, and finally, it exploded into a sky full of stardust with a "Bang." The blizzard stopped abruptly, with only a few unmelted ice crystals drifting down, witnessing this Synchro Summon that had been strangled at the moment of its birth.

"It's not over yet!" The fake Jack laughed out loud, "And, the player hit by the effect of 'Discordant Counter' cannot perform any monster Summons, Flip Summons, or Special Summons until the end of their next turn!"
