Chapter 700 - 699: This is the Demon, Once was Divine Domain
Calm once again, Lilith bent over to strip off the battered stockings on her leg, raising a hand to snap her fingers lightly.
Immediately following that.
A curtain of darkness concealed her figure.
Upon seeing this, Li Jing blinked, took his seat, and poured out two cups of Life Tree Leaves tea.
Just as he finished pouring.
The dark curtain that had hidden Lilith dispersed into smoke, revealing her figure.
Now, she showed no signs of distress.
She had regained her graceful and noble demeanor, also replacing her outfit with something more casual.
Looking up and seeing that Li Jing had poured the tea and was waiting for her, and noticing the astonishing life force emanating from the tea, Lilith took her seat across from him with a smile on her face.
She picked up the teacup in a manner like a noblewoman and took a slight sip, causing a sparkle to appear in Lilith’s eyes as she gave a little ’um’.
"Is this... the legendary Life Tree Leaves?"
"Oh?"
Li Jing, surprised, said.
"Lilith, you know about Life Tree Leaves?"
"In the distant past, due to some twist of fate, I had the chance to come in contact with them.
Lilith replied, giving him a beaming smile.
"As the World Guardian, you are worthy of your title, even able to get hold of such rare things as Life Tree Leaves."
"While Life Tree Leaves are indeed rare, they don’t really bear much significance to individuals of our level, at most it’s just a novelty." Li Jing laughed and said.
"I have quite a few of these. If you’re interested in them, I’ll give you some later."
Upon hearing that, Lilith’s eyes lit up again.
"Really?"
"It’s just useless stuff."
Li Jing laughed and said.
"You’ll be mine soon, and our agreement includes the condition that I will guide you forward. If you need something, of course I will provide it."
Hearing someone talk this way, Lilith grinned brightly.
"Then, I’ll thank you in advance."
"It’s nothing."
Li Jing spoke, then turned the conversation.
"Aren’t you going to settle accounts with Satan?"
"No need."
Lilith responded, nursing her tea as she rested her chin on her hand.
"As the Hellin demon king, he simply did what he had to do."
Li Jing was speechless and said.
"Is all of you demons... so magnanimous?"
"We’re definitely not magnanimous."
Lilith answered indifferently.
"You’ve acknowledged that we are demons. Demons don’t concern themselves with justice or righteousness. I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to kill Satan given the opportunity, provided it wouldn’t disrupt the stability and comprehensive power of Hell."
As she said this, she laughed.
"Since I have the agreement with you, I’m destined to leave Hell. It’s not surprising to be sold as a sacrificial pawn."
Li Jing was taken aback for a moment, unsure of what to say.
No sooner had Satan left.
Than Lilith, who had been missing for over ten days in Heaven, returned looking very haggard.
Clearly, this was not a random act by Satan, he had planned all along to sell off Lilith, whose departure from Hell was inevitable.
And Heaven was obviously prepared as well.
In the midst of this, Satan was calculating
Heaven clearly did not know about Lilith’s departure from Hell.
After determining Li Jing’s position, without hesitation, he reached a consensus with Heaven to end the war, offering up Lilith as his end of the bargain.
With Lilith’s death in Hell, Heaven would have to sacrifice someone of similar power.
Both sides would be weakened, fitting Li Jing’s demand for further losses for both Heaven and Hell. How could Satan resist turning such a splendid profit?
If Lilith died.’
Li Jing would hardly pursue the matter.
Firstly, Lilith had gone to Heaven out of her own accord.
Secondly, with a boundless existence like Lilith dying in Heaven, it would only be seen as a lack of her own strength, no one else could be blamed.
In this way, Hell could "save" a top-tier power, replace a top-tier power in Heaven amid this misshaped war. Isn’t that swell?
If Lilith did not die.
The situation would naturally evolve into the current scenario.
There would be no losses for Hell, and Lilith would not be hastily seeking an account with Satan.
The reason is simple.
They were all devils.
Calculating each other, even wanting to kill each other, was just a part of their everyday routine.
But they shared a common goal.
To maintain the prosperity of Hell.
This.
To be honest, Li Jing was having a hard time accepting it.
But, it made perfect sense for devils...
Seeing the strange expression on Li Jing’s face, Lilith could probably guess what he was thinking.
However, she had no intention of continuing this line of conversation.
With a moan that made the heart race, Lilith spread out on the table, stretching her arms in a yawn that accentuated her enticing curves, laying down looking bored.
"Everything’s come to this, I suppose I can’t profit from Heaven anymore. But, that’s okay. Souls from Heaven that have been saved are distinct but nowhere nearly as delicious as the ones gained from a deal, and they’re harder to digest too."
With that, she supported her face with both hands on her cheeks and looked over.
"How long are you planning to extend this war for?"
"Given the current situation with the God Realm’s secretive nature, it doesn’t hurt to reconsider a truce after the war has swept through Heaven."
Li Jing responded impassively.
Hearing this, Lilith was taken aback and said in a low voice.
"In that case, I’m afraid Heaven might be forced into desperate measures. Hell may also be uncooperative."
"Do I look like I care about that?"
Li Jing tilted his head.
Seeing this, Lilith sounded puzzled.
"But if it really escalates to that extent, while you, Sect Master, may not end up losing anything, your followers however..."
Before the sentence could be finished, Li Jing gave a bland smile.
"You might have gotten one thing wrong. My personal patience has its limit."
Lilith fell silent.
Li Jing continued to speak.
"In the end, I cannot accept the current situation where heaven and hell are openly and secretly cooperating, yet reluctant to make adequate sacrifices. I still have to traverse six more divine realms. If those six realms behave like heaven and hell, then how am I supposed to act? I’m not just doing this mission for the task set by the Star Cloud Heavenly Path, but also for the stability of future order."
After stating this, Li Jing added calmly.
"They’ve made even a proper war into such a mess, do you think I can trust that heaven, hell or the other divine realms, all of which have retained a significant portion of their power, to behave themselves in the future?"
Confronted with this question, Lilith blinked her gem-like amber eyes a few times and then nodded.
"Indeed, getting all the divine realms to calm down without a good beating is absolutely impossible, particularly given the Eastern World has completely lost the Upper Three Realms and the Immortal Realm in the past countless years, and for a long time to come, the Eastern World’s ability to resist invasion from local worlds will be zero. With these thoughts, your mission, Sect Master, is indeed tough."
"Enough of this."
Li Jing waved his hand and looked up to inquire.
"What about the investigation you promised to conduct for me? I hope you haven’t been too busy reaping benefits in heaven to do it?"
"Of course not."
Lilith chuckled and sat upright.
"I do have a bit of information now, but I can’t find more solid evidence at the moment. At this stage, I can confirm that at least two divine realms were involved in the incident about the Upper Three Realms. One is the Heaven X Divine Realm, which is currently being punished, and the other is the X Jin Divine Realm, which is technically part of the Eastern World."
Upon hearing this, Li Jing raised his eyebrows.
Lilith’s efficiency in doing things was commendable.
As she mentioned earlier.
She couldn’t find more solid evidence just yet.
Meaning...
The two divine realms she mentioned, that are confirmed to be involved, were based on evidence.
After a slight pause, Li Jing spoke up.
"Can you elaborate?"
"That would be a long story. Let’s keep it simple."
Lilith smiled and began explaining.
"First of all, Heaven X Divine Realm and X Jin Divine Realm are my primary suspects."
"Heaven X Divine Realm is undoubtedly at the forefront in terms of ambition and spreading influence among the Nine Great Divine Fields. Whether it is among believers or at the divine realm level, the Heaven X Divine Realm has organized several eastern expeditions in history. I can responsibly say that the Heaven X Divine Realm, which shares the same origin with Hell, is the divine realm most incompatible with the Eastern World among the Nine Great Divine Fields, without a doubt."
"As for X Jin Divine Realm, their hatred towards the Eastern World is well-known to one and all. After all, their existence is inherently a group of gods who were kicked out of the Upper Three Realms in the distant past. They long for nothing more than to return to the Upper Three Realms as gods and reign supreme."
Upon hearing Lilith’s explanation, Li Jing expressed a queer look.
The faith of the X Jin Divine Realm only exists in the Island Nation on Earth.
An issue he initially didn’t consider seriously.
True, Hua Xia and the Island Nation carry an unresolved feud.
But that’s a recent history.
It’s irrelevant at the levels of divine realms and the Upper Three Realms.
After all, the invasion of the Upper Three Realms by the Destruction Spore Group happened countless years ago.
However, what Li Jing hadn’t expected was...
The X Jin Divine Realm was actually made up of a group of gods kicked out from the Upper Three Realms...
Could there be a connection after all?
It seemed as if Lilith knew what Li Jing was thinking, and she spoke up.
"Although you, Master, are a Watcher, I can tell, you are exceedingly young. It is only natural there are many things you do not yet know. In fact, I couldn’t fully elaborate them for you even if I wanted to. It is true that I come from that time, but it was quite long ago. The gap in history has had a particular influence even on theoretically eternal beings such as myself."
And with that, she continued the story.
"What I can barely remember is that the Upper Three Realms were, in the past, a Divine Domain. At that time, even the number of gods exceeded the total amount in the Nine Great Divine Fields today. However, after the appearance of human Ascendants, a fierce conflict with the gods of the Upper Three Realms occurred, almost causing the collapse of those realms. The Ascendants of the Eastern World back then were unlike those of later generations - even immediately after Ascension, they were as formidable as the gods. The two camps had a stand-off for many years."
"Later, due to the rise of a powerful race known as ’Witches’ and the influence of some unknown factor, the gods chose to withdraw from the Upper Three Realms. Many of them left the Star Nebula Great World straight away, while a small portion started from scratch and created their own divine realms. XTsui is one of them, and it’s the only God Civilization of the Eastern World that has survived to this day."
"By the way, not only gods abandoned the Upper Three Realms, but most of the human Ascendants also did so, including the Witch Clan. Those who were left behind were all weak beings, yet they were able to prevent the gods from returning to the Upper Three Realms."
After speaking these words, Lilith took a deep breath.
"I don’t think I need to tell the rest of the story. Naturally, the expelled God Clan wanted to return to the Upper Three Realms, but they couldn’t because of the superior collective strength of the human Ascendants. Since various Cultivation techniques started appearing, the decline of the original faith is no less impactful than the spread of modern materialism. As a result, many gods of the Eastern World who chose to stay were buried in the river of history, with only the XTsui God Clan remaining to this day."
Given everything Lilith had just narrated, Li Jing silently nodded.
The revelation that the Upper Three Realms were once a Divine Domain had enlightened him.
Upon reflection, he realized that numerous Eastern myths had proven the existence of divine beings in the Eastern World.
Leaving everything else aside.
The totem gods that exist in the trackable myths on Earth are innumerable.
Even the "Witch Clan" that Lilith mentioned earlier is considered divine.
The Fire God Zhu Rong, the Water God Gong Gong, and so on.
Didn’t all these ancient figures mentioned in the mythology belong to the Witch Clan?
Thinking about all this.
He had many questions.
Unfortunately, however, Lilith was unable to answer his questions, perhaps due to the lengthy span of time that had elapsed, or, as she had made clear, due to the gap in history, which had had an influence on her, even as a witness to it.
It was not that she was disinclined to recollect, but simply lacked the ability to do so.
After a moment of silence, Li Jing looked up.
"Everything you’ve told me so far is only your personal suspicions about the origins of the XTian and XTsui Divine Domains. They are not yet solid evidence."
"Don’t rush, I was just about to tell you," said Lilith gently with a laugh. She took a sip of her Life Tree Leaves tea, smacking her lips, and continued.
"Regarding this matter, I’ve inquired with a few rather capable old friends. According to their description, XTsui obtained a mysterious stone tablet from the void space billions of years ago. This stone tablet’s history can be traced back to before the existence of the Star Nebula Great World, and it belonged to a Great World that has since been destroyed. Unable to decipher the mysteries within the tablet, a god from the XTsui Divine Domain sought out a strong being from the Nightmare Clan in Hell, hoping to trace back to the era when the tablet had existed through dream infiltration."
She went on with assertion.
"The mission was successful. The XTsui Divine Domain gave up the souls of two high-ranking gods and a large amount of sacrifices to infiltrate the time when the stone tablet existed. They found out that the era where the stone tablet once belonged was destroyed by a virtually unsolvable void creature."
Upon hearing this, Li Jing frowned.
"Do you know what that void creature is?"
"I do not."
Lilith shook her head and stated.
"The Nightmare Clan possesses the power to infiltrate and probe dreams, but if the being is powerful enough to resist probing, forced invasion would lead to backlash. The Nightmare who helped the XTsui God Clan did not probe the dream; the information was only made known after the incident."
Continuing, she said.
"Moreover, there was one crucial piece of information: the void creature seemed to have no resistance against the ability to establish rules."
