Chapter 275: Why Is My Career Panel in 2D Anime Style? Chapter 125

~6 min read 1,080 words

Li Ang tossed a bottle of Clear1 functional beverage to Danika as he spoke.

The big-lei office drone opened the metal can, took a sip, was about to say something, then suddenly froze, and took another sip of the liquid inside the can.

After a moment, she asked in an odd tone, "Did you make this yourself?"

"Mm." Li Ang nodded. "Any suggestions?"

Upon hearing this, Danika downed the Clear1 in one gulp, smacked her lips, and said, "Good stuff—can rival early Genomic Blood products, and tastes far better."

Her words surprised Li Ang; he hadn't expected the byproduct of his mental-enhancement potion to receive such praise.

Though Genomic Blood was nothing compared to the Five Giants, in this star region it was already the leading beverage company, with its own unique advantages.

"If you're planning to sell this, congratulations in advance," Danika chuckled maliciously. "Those vampires probably never imagined someone could produce something similar to Creation Blood."

From Danika's reaction, Li Ang knew his product had real market potential.

And this was merely the initial sample; his shadow clones could continue refining it later. The only problem now was how to increase the yield of Clear Fruit.

After a while, Danika dropped her smug expression and looked at Li Ang. "What do you want me to do, Boss Li?"

"Can you help vet the new product?"

"No problem. No one in this star region understands functional beverages better than I do," Danika agreed readily. "Just pay me as you said."

Li Ang gave a slight nod.

It wasn't just Danika—he'd also assigned Lu Ke a position.

Production Supervisor. His role: manage the staff.

Li Ang didn't expect Lu Ke to do a good job; his real reason was to tie Obi-Wan to his own ship.

As for workers, Li Ang planned to hire the Plant Tribes of Morabys Star.

He'd discovered that puppets from the Naruto world were hard for ordinary people to control, but perfect for these plant folk with dense root systems—each one as capable as Sasori, pure cheap labor.

Besides, this would solve Morabys Star's employment crisis; the Federation would probably laugh out loud upon hearing it.

Found a treasure!

"I thought you were joking back then. Didn't expect you'd actually grow this big," Danika said with a sigh. "But your raw material's from Morabys Star's fruit, right? Did you make a deal with those plant people?"

Before Li Ang could answer, Lu Ke spoke up: "Actually, you should call him Viceroy Li."

?

Danika froze, then realized something—her face filled with disbelief. "You're the one who fought the planet's Viceroy that day?!"

The big-lei office drone had considered many possibilities, but never imagined Li Ang had become Viceroy of Morabys Star.

Just months ago, he'd been a lowly constabulary officer.

Seeing Li Ang nod, she opened her mouth, then her expression softened into resignation.

"I must be dreaming. I knew something this good couldn't be real—I must've slept too long."

She pinched herself hard, then gasped in pain.

Watching the big-lei office drone's reaction, Li Ang silently shook his head.

Another one's gone mad.

Just as he was about to speak, a message suddenly popped up on his comm device.

【To newly appointed Viceroy Li Ang of Morabys Star: Deliver the additional supplies promised by Lord Duonuo. Prepare for handover soon.】

Sender:

Starlight Federation 9000th Army.

Seeing this, Li Ang furrowed his brow—he now understood why Lord Duonuo had forced all clans to prepay this year's quota.

But the tone… it sounded like someone was misusing official channels.

'So forcing clans to prepay was Lord Duonuo's personal move? He's trying to curry favor with someone in the 9000th Army?'

Li Ang narrowed his eyes. Too little data—he couldn't draw a conclusion yet.

But since his 【Traveler】 talent still hadn't triggered, he'd long suspected this major event wasn't over.

If killing Lord Duonuo didn't count, then becoming Viceroy should, right?

Yet even after passing the Viceroy exam, his 【Traveler】 talent showed no sign of activating.

'Killed the old one, now the older one shows up? Surely not such a cliché plot?'

Li Ang's gaze flickered uncertainly—he hadn't expected Lord Duonuo to leave behind such a time bomb.

Worse, Li Ang hadn't found the supplies Lord Duonuo had looted—meaning he couldn't even continue this shady deal.

Unless he stripped the Plant Tribes of Morabys Star again—but that was clearly unrealistic.

From the Clear Tree Clan's earlier behavior, he knew every tribe had been squeezed dry.

'So this is why the old bastard said the Federation wouldn't let me go?'

Li Ang took a slow breath to steady himself.

Probably not. Otherwise, the Federation wouldn't have made him Viceroy in the first place.

More likely, he was right: Lord Duonuo had privately struck a deal with someone in the 9000th Army, and now that person was extorting him.

But he couldn't ignore the slim chance it was something worse.

Thinking of this, Li Ang sent messages to Lady Hedi and Dongdonglong, asking them to gather supplies.

Whatever they could find.

…

Amidst the ruins strewn with stellar debris, a humanoid being with both male and female traits stood on the bridge of a massive starship, staring blankly at the lifeless void outside.

"That old fool, Duonuo…"

"Has really gone downhill."

Recalling the giant tree's promise, the humanoid's face twisted in disbelief.

"Hopefully this fellow will be easier to fool."

The humanoid creature hadn't expected things to take such a turn—clearly this had been its big chance to show its face in front of the Lord Viceroy.

Too bad everything had been ruined by that little dragon whelp.

"If it really won't work, then I'll just introduce that fellow to the Lord Viceroy. Surely the Lord Viceroy would be interested in a third-tier who could cross-tier kill a fourth-tier."

Even so, the humanoid creature couldn't help letting out a sigh.

Damned Duonuo—why the hell did you have to go provoke him!?

You've lived all these years for nothing.

Although, if he were in Duonuo's place, he probably wouldn't have expected some ruthless fighter capable of leaping across major tiers to suddenly pop out of such a godforsaken corner.

"Sigh—let me send a message first and try."

With that sigh, the humanoid creature swiftly passed identity verification and promptly sent a message.

And the recipient was—

Viceroy of the Morabis Star, Li Ang.

No! Betraying! My! Promise!

It's just that somehow the more I pay back, the more I owe.
