Chapter 5: A New Journey (x) Running Away
Night.
Li Ang lay on the hard wooden bed and fell into a deep sleep; to cope with the death-assembly line of two twelve-hour shifts, he had to make sure he got enough rest.
Boom—!
At that moment, a muffled sound rang out, followed immediately by an unending series of violent tremors.
Such a tremendous commotion jolted Li Ang awake from his sleep.
"What's going on. Are you going to let people sleep or not"
He muttered, a little disgruntled, then rolled over intending to go back to sleep.
But the tremors didn't just end there; on the contrary, they grew more and more violent.
Li Ang quickly realized something was off.
He shook off his drowsiness, climbed to his feet, and went to the cell door, trying to gather some useful information.
Through the narrow window, Li Ang saw the ward's management staff hurrying through the corridor, their faces panicked.
"Something happened."
Seeing this, Li Ang's heart sank.
Without much hesitation, he immediately began pounding on the cell door, trying to attract the guards' attention so he could ask what was going on.
And clearly, Li Ang wasn't the only one who'd realized this.
By now, countless prisoners were pounding on their cell doors, trying to use wails and curses to draw the guards' attention.
But unfortunately, even after the corridor fell quiet again, not a single guard had paid them any mind.
By now, the tremors were growing more and more intense, on par with a major earthquake.
Fortunately, the ward's construction was fairly solid; Li Ang hadn't spotted any sign of damage inside his own cell.
He sat back down on the bed board and muttered, "Prisoner, prisoner"
"Now I'm really a prisoner."
Li Ang's cries now reached neither heaven nor earth; he could only sit in this cramped cell and wait for the ending of his life.
If he was lucky, nothing would happen in the end, and he'd just keep on being a reform-through-labor convict.
If he was unlucky.
Then naturally, this day next year would be his death anniversary.
But no matter which one, it wasn't the ending Li Ang wanted.
Until a tremendous clanging roar rang out, and the white lights inside the cell abruptly went out, plunging everything into darkness.
But soon, accompanied by a hum, the lights came back on—only much dimmer than before.
Seeing this, Li Ang figured the backup power must have kicked in; after all, a critical area like a prison ward would certainly have emergency plans for all sorts of sudden situations.
That wasn't a good omen.
"The situation's getting worse and worse."
At this moment, Li Ang's heart kept sliding toward the abyss, because the backup power kicking in meant things outside were definitely not good.
Just as he was thinking about how to save himself, a burst of footsteps suddenly drew his attention.
"Did the guards come back?"
With that question in mind, Li Ang went to the cell door and looked out.
Then a figure in the same white prison uniform as him came into view.
But before Li Ang could call out to the person, they'd already vanished from his sight.
"A Professional?"
Obviously, this person had to be a Professional who'd taken a special class—otherwise Li Ang couldn't figure out how they'd escaped from this sealed cell.
He did want to copy them, but the 【Prisoner】 class clearly couldn't do that.
Li Ang looked at the thick cell door in front of him and couldn't help complaining inwardly: "If I shout 'farewell to the cage,' can it let me change class to Thief?"
"If not, I'd even accept Brawler."
They're all prisoners, so how is the gap in strength so huge?
"Now this is 'founding a business not yet half-done when the road collapses midway.'"
Thinking of his two powerful talents, he felt a sudden urge to cry.
At that moment, a shrill scream suddenly came from somewhere Li Ang couldn't see.
His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately backed away from the cell door: "Was that the person from just now?"
"Did the guards come back and find he'd escaped?"
"Or."
