Chapter 334: Stormwind Guard

~9 min read 1,723 words

Azeroth, Westfall.

Riding on the back of the Deathclaw Robin, Wayne moved slowly through the wilderness.

Compared to the scenes he had seen a few years ago, Westfall appeared even more desolate. Walking along the road, one could occasionally see bones exposed in the wild, as well as abandoned crops and farmhouses.

It seemed that during this time, the noble lords of Stormwind City had not only failed to improve the environment here but had instead made life even harder for the residents.

However, Wayne only sighed; his mood remained unaffected.

He had seen too many families shattered by war. Compared to most of the northern residents in the Wizard World, the humans of the Azeroth world were clearly living better overall.

Perhaps because they were born from a game world, the humans of Azeroth were significantly superior in terms of physical fitness, living environment, and material supplies compared to the Wizard World, which was closer to medieval reality.

As for their origins, they were weakened versions of Titan-forged, making them almost the chosen ones among the many races of Azeroth.

Unfortunately, Azeroth was too dangerous. Especially in the coming decades, a world-ending catastrophe would occur almost every few years. Although the major races would work together to resolve the danger each time, the living beings on this world suffered immensely and lived quite miserably.

While observing the surroundings, Wayne pondered his next journey in his mind.

His most important goal this time was to find an expert capable of using Holy Light to help him resolve the Hell Demon God power within his body.

Secondly, he wanted to visit the Kingdom of Dalaran to purchase some excellent magic equipment in this place where the trade of magical items among humans was most prosperous, in order to expand the strength of the Witcher Order.

Anyway, with Vivian there, he could produce the currency of this world at any time, and his own appearance was not much different from the humans of the Azeroth world. As long as he was careful, he would not arouse suspicion.

However, what gave him a bit of a headache was that the world of Azeroth was vast and boundless. To travel from the current Westfall to the Eastern Kingdoms where Dalaran was located, relying on ordinary transportation—whether by ship or land—might take a month or two, and there was no guarantee he would find someone willing to go there.

He did not have that much time to waste here.

Besides ordinary transportation, the only way Wayne could think of to travel quickly to the Eastern Kingdoms was to rely on a mage's portal spell.

However, such a powerful spell capable of teleporting people thousands of miles away in an instant might be common in the game, and even free.

But in reality, I am afraid only those high-level mages, or even Archmages, would have the ability to do such a thing.

Such talents were quite rare; perhaps only in Stormwind City could he find such an expert.

It was just unclear whether he could find the kind of Holy Light expert he needed in the Cathedral of Stormwind City. Thinking about these things, Wayne continued to move toward Goldshire, occasionally chatting with Ranni, who had just arrived in this new world and appeared quite curious about everything around her.

Time soon reached dusk. Just as he was preparing to find a place to camp, some burning firelight suddenly appeared in the direction he turned, and some noisy shouting could be vaguely heard.

Wayne frowned and focused his keen perception. After a dozen seconds, he identified the situation there.

Shouting, the sound of weapons clashing, and roars during battle—it seemed a raid was taking place where the firelight was.

However, this was not a simple raid; the strength of the two sides in the battle should not have had a significant gap, and the fighting between them was quite intense.

Encountering such a thing, Wayne immediately became interested. For him, any kind of bandit was just a small fry. He had not been to this world for a few years, and if he could save some useful people, perhaps it could provide some convenience for his next journey.

Holding this thought, Wayne lightly kicked the back of the Deathclaw, signaling to Robin that it could act.

Feeling its master's will, the Deathclaw immediately let out an excited roar, pushed off with its hind legs, and sprinted toward the direction of the firelight at a speed much faster than a galloping horse.

Covering a distance of several thousand meters in less than two minutes, the Deathclaw had already arrived near the battle site.

Its nearly ten-meter size and heavy footsteps had long since attracted the attention of both sides of the battle.

By the time Wayne approached the battlefield and stood on top of the Deathclaw's head, looking down at the changing expressions of the two sides under the dusk, everyone fighting also turned their eyes to the Witcher high above.

However, this stalemate did not last long. Realizing that Wayne did not join the battlefield immediately, it was very likely he was not a helper for the thieves.

A middle-aged officer wearing guard armor and a helmet, revealing a bearded face, immediately shouted loudly at Wayne:

"Sir, we are the Stormwind City Guard Captain Genset, currently under attack by Defias thieves. This is a group of despicable bandits. I hope you can lend a hand and help us repel these thieves."

Wayne, who was originally considering which side to help, made a choice quickly upon hearing the words "Stormwind City."

Although the Defias Brotherhood still had some strength in Westfall, it was basically impossible to rely on them to get to Dalaran. Since it was the official guards of Stormwind City who were attacked, helping them might allow him to establish some connection with the Stormwind military, and perhaps he could find an Archmage or an expert using Holy Light because of it.

After Guard Captain Genset finished shouting, the burly man confronting him also realized something was wrong and immediately shouted as well:

"Friend, we of the Defias Brotherhood are not bandits; these scum guards are the lackeys of the nobles."

"The fight between us has nothing to do with you. Please do not interfere."

However, even though the bandit leader shouted very loudly and felt somewhat fierce, Wayne, who had already made his choice, ignored him completely.

Wayne just lightly patted Robin's head. Receiving the master's order, the Deathclaw immediately exhaled a large puff of breath with a sulfurous scent.

Then it tilted its head slightly and opened its giant mouth toward the location where the Defias thieves were most numerous below the crowd.

A large mass of orange-red, high-temperature flames with thick smoke was spat out from the Deathclaw's mouth.

The power of this high-temperature fireball was comparable to a high-level fire spell; not only was it extremely fast, but it also had a splash effect.

In an instant, it flew into the crowd and exploded with a bang under the terrified gazes of those Defias thieves, instantly burning seven or eight nearby thieves to death.

The Stormwind guards' morale immediately soared, and they roared as they charged toward the members of the Defias Brotherhood.

Wayne also took the opportunity to leap down from the Deathclaw's back onto a giant rock nearby, admiring his pet slaughtering the Defias thieves while casually taking out his bow and arrow to shoot those bandits trying to escape.

Because of the powerful addition of Wayne and the Deathclaw, the balance between the two sides of the battlefield was instantly broken, and the Defias Brotherhood fell into an absolute disadvantage, or could even be said to have become lambs waiting to be slaughtered.

Some cowardly Defias members were so scared that they turned and ran, while others, presumably die-hard fanatics, still clutched their weapons, blocking the guards' pursuit with ferocious expressions.

However, these resistances were ultimately futile. In front of the giant beast Deathclaw, even heavy-armored knights were just tin cans that would dent with a squeeze; no one could stop this monster's attack.

After casually shooting seven or eight Defias bandits with his bow and arrow, Wayne suddenly felt quite bored.

He did not continue to attack but quietly watched the slaughter on the battlefield, watching the number of Defias Brotherhood members dwindle, while also observing the fighting style of the warriors of Azeroth.

According to his observation, ordinary soldiers and Defias bandits did not have particularly significant performance in terms of combat power, but because their physical fitness was stronger, they were generally superior to the soldiers of the Wizard World.

However, among the dozens of people fighting, Guard Captain Genset and the bandit leader of the Defias Brotherhood showed combat power far higher than ordinary soldiers and could use a fighting style that instantly enhanced explosive power, which was quite conspicuous.

Although he did not know if this was a manifestation of Rage from the game, he still noted this matter, preparing to investigate it later.

After all, compared to the other source energies of the main world, the energy of Rage seemed to be the most special.

…………

Because of Wayne's participation, the battle ended quickly.

This group of Defias Brotherhood members suffered heavy casualties; including the leading bandit leader, all members were either killed on the spot or captured.

The guard captain named Genset immediately came to Wayne's side after the battle ended to express his gratitude.

"Thank you, sir."

"You helped the kingdom's guards; this is a matter worthy of commendation. I will report it to the military, and you will definitely receive the reward you deserve."

Wayne also nodded quite politely, exchanged a few pleasantries with the guard captain, and took the initiative to talk about his own background.

"So you are an adventurer! How rare; I have never seen an adventurer like you who can tame such a huge dragon beast as a pet."

"Are you a Hunter class professional?"

Hearing Genset's question, Wayne was stunned. Indeed, he used a bow and arrow for attacks and was followed by an obedient beast partner, which was indeed very similar to a Hunter in the game.

This was a good excuse, just right to use as a disguise.
