350. Chapter 347: Where Did the King Go?
Regarding Shaw's question, Wayne did not know the answer clearly either. Even as a veteran player of the Warcraft game, he had mostly skimmed through the plot quests and could not possibly keep every detail of every quest in his mind.
"Some topics are not suitable for public discussion."
"Shaw, Duke Bolvar, Paletress, let us go and hear this murderer's explanation together."
Thus, to avoid slipping up by saying too much, Wayne did not answer his question directly. Instead, he reached out and grabbed Onyxia by the neck, then glanced around at the three of them. After saying a few words, he dragged the former Countess, who had once been the most prominent figure in Stormwind City, into a guest room as if she were a stray cat or dog.
In truth, Paletress was not qualified to participate in such a major matter concerning the King. However, because of her constant help during this period, Wayne felt it was best to call the young woman in as well; doing so would show his trust in her.
After entering the room, the group did not waste any time and quickly got to the point.
Faced with Wayne's interrogation, Onyxia did not resist and honestly confessed everything she had done.
After all, by this point, almost all the Black Dragonflight hidden in Stormwind City had been rounded up, and their plan had failed completely. To save her own life, the Black Dragon Princess could only cooperate as much as possible with the enemy's demands to avoid suffering further pain.
However, as more and more inside information was revealed—the evil deeds controlled by the Black Dragon Princess, and the foolish decrees issued by the House of Nobles under her influence—it was all laid out in the open.
Whether it was Duke Bolvar or Shaw of SI: 7, their expressions grew increasingly ugly, turning as dark as the bottom of a pot, and even their clenched fists began to tremble uncontrollably.
As for the simple-natured Holy Light Priest Paletress, she listened with her mouth agape in shock; given her experience, she could hardly imagine that so much darkness was hidden within the city where she lived.
In the ten-plus years since Countess Katrana arrived in Stormwind City, countless people had been persecuted by this Black Dragon Princess, who had slowly eroded a newly rebuilt, thriving human kingdom into a decadent, backward, and chaotic realm.
Even the areas surrounding Stormwind City where humans lived—Westfall, Redridge Mountains, Duskwood, and others—had all fallen into difficult straits because of Onyxia's conspiracies.
Such a result was undoubtedly a heavy slap in the face to Duke Bolvar, the Regent, and SI: 7, the kingdom's intelligence agency.
As the two figures at the very top of the kingdom's power structure, the chaos in the kingdom was a manifestation of their dereliction of duty.
However, Shaw quickly shook off his feelings of frustration and anger. He stared at Onyxia with hateful eyes and growled word by word:
"So, Black Dragon, you have no way to lift the dark magic on King Varian now, is that right?"
"Our King is still destined to remain like this, unable to be saved?"
"And we can only watch helplessly, unable to do anything, right?"
Seemingly sensing the killing intent radiating from Shaw, Onyxia's body shrank slightly, and she dared not meet his gaze.
The Black Dragon Princess was extremely weak now. Although her transformed human form did not suffer major damage, her true body had sustained massive injuries. If not for Paletress treating her with the Holy Light, she might have already passed out from blood loss.
Faced with Shaw's questioning, Onyxia felt not a shred of guilt. She merely glanced at Wayne with considerable fear before speaking: "To restore Varian to normal, you must find the other half of his soul."
"I have sent my subordinates to search for it many times over the years, but there has never been a result."
"However, to lift this dark magic, I must be present, so you cannot kill me. Otherwise, Varian will never be restored." After receiving Onyxia's answer, both Duke Bolvar and Shaw felt a sense of stifling frustration and slight despair, as if they had just caught a glimmer of hope only for it to be instantly extinguished.
They all glared fiercely at Onyxia, wishing they could kill the mastermind on the spot to avenge King Varian.
The Azeroth world was boundless; even after thousands of years, humans had not fully explored it. Searching for a person's trail in such a vast world was easier said than done.
Yet, even though it was extremely difficult—like looking for a needle in a haystack—they had to try and search for the other half of Varian's soul to save their King and the entire Stormwind Kingdom.
However, just as Bolvar and Shaw were fretting over this problem, Wayne, who had remained silent until now, suddenly spoke up: "I actually have some intelligence regarding the other half of King Varian's soul."
"But because the source of this intelligence is top-secret, I cannot tell you how I know this."
Wayne's sudden words caused Bolvar and Shaw to tremble. As the legitimate royal house of the Stormwind Kingdom, the safety of King Varian was almost the most important thing in their hearts.
The two could not care about anything else and couldn't help but ask: "Mr. Wayne, whatever you know, please tell us. The Stormwind Kingdom will never forget your help."
Wayne rubbed his chin. Seeing Paletress also looking at him with curious eyes, he decided not to keep them in suspense. In any case, even if he didn't say it, King Varian would likely find his way back in a year or two on his own; he might as well trade this for a favor now.
"According to the information I received, the other half of King Varian's soul has drifted to another continent, the continent of Kalimdor, due to a twist of fate."
"He was captured by the Orc Horde and forced to become a gladiator, fighting for his own freedom."
Having said this, Wayne looked at Bolvar and Shaw, whose expressions were shifting, and added: "As for specific details, I am not entirely sure. However, if Varian is not currently undergoing gladiator training in the Horde's Orgrimmar, then he should be in Kalimdor, fighting in the gladiator duels at Dire Maul in Feralas."
"If you send people to the Kalimdor continent, you might be able to find your King in one of these two places."
Hearing the news from Wayne, although Bolvar and Shaw could not confirm its truth, seeing how accurate and assertive he was, both were more inclined to believe him.
After all, compared to searching for their King in a vast sea of people, these two locations with clear targets were obviously much more worth exploring.
However, Wayne had not finished speaking. He paused and continued:
"But according to the information I received, King Varian is currently in a state of amnesia due to the soul-splitting dark magic."
"Even if you can find him, restoring his memory might not be an easy task."
"Relying solely on the strength of the Stormwind Kingdom itself, I feel it will be very difficult for you to accomplish all of this."
"So, before you take action, you had best make full preparations so as not to make things worse."
