Chapter 54: Dwarf Blacksmith
Although he failed to fleece Leuvaarden with Gwent, which made Wayne a bit regretful, Geralt's card skills were also different from before under his influence.
Plus the Gwent deck he sponsored, the White Wolf could already be called a Gwent master.
The two played seven or eight games back and forth, until the food served was almost cold, and the two stopped with some unfinished business.
Geralt was luckier and won more than a dozen orens and a relatively ordinary card from Leuvaarden, which made Leuvaarden a bit depressed.
He certainly didn't care about this little money, but felt a bit regretful that he couldn't get a profit back from Geralt, Wayne's companion.
After lunch, the fat wealthy merchant wiped the sweat that didn't exist on his forehead, smacked his lips, and sighed:
"Sigh! Ever since I ate the bear paw cooked by Mr. Wayne last time, I have a feeling that I can't swallow these rough foods now."
"I just don't know when I will have the opportunity to taste that delicious food again."
Wayne chuckled. He certainly knew that Leuvaarden didn't have as much greed for food as he said, but this guy, as a big merchant, had quite a lot of energy in Wyzima. Ten years later, he even became the behind-the-scenes financier of Princess Adda.
Wayne didn't mind maintaining a good relationship with such a guy.
So, he said with a smile:
"It won't take long, Mr. Leuvaarden. In a few days, after I move into my new home, I will invite my friends to hold a celebration dinner at my house."
"I sincerely invite you to attend this celebration. At that time, I will personally cook and carefully prepare a table of delicious dishes."
Hearing this, Leuvaarden cooperated and showed a surprised smile.
"That's great, Wayne. I will definitely attend the banquet on time. I'm really looking forward to that day coming soon."
I have to say, Leuvaarden's expression was so natural and sincere. If Wayne didn't know his true colors, perhaps many people would be deceived by him.
Just like Geralt, Wayne could feel that although Geralt didn't treat Leuvaarden as a friend yet, he must have had some good feelings for this generous and kind merchant.
After some social interaction, the three finally began to talk about the contract.
Leuvaarden's contract was actually not troublesome. This guy spent a lot of money at the town hall to buy a large forest on the outskirts of Wyzima, preparing to build a large new logging camp there.
However, industries like developing primitive forests always encounter various wild monsters in the forest.
According to Leuvaarden, during this period of time, three loggers had already been injured, and other workers couldn't work well, which had affected the efficiency of the work.
So, he wanted to hire a Witcher to help him clear the monsters in the forest to ensure the normal operation of the logging camp.
After some conversation, Wayne found that this was a long-term and quite leisurely job. You go when there are monsters, and you can slack off when there is nothing to do. There was also a fixed salary every week, which was simply a good job for a Witcher.
Wayne and Geralt discussed it and decided to take this contract.
However, a logging camp didn't need two Witchers to guard it. The two of them would take turns on duty at the logging camp, while the other would stay in Wyzima to handle contracts in the city.
After discussing the contract matters, Wayne asked Leuvaarden about one thing.
"Mr. Leuvaarden, you have extensive connections in Wyzima and have a lot of contacts. Can you introduce me to a master blacksmith? I want to ask him to help me forge a piece of equipment."
Hearing this, Leuvaarden paused. He raised his head and looked at Wayne for more than ten seconds before saying:
"You are really lucky, Mr. Wayne. I even doubt whether the Goddess of Luck is really favoring you."
"Just last month, I recruited a group of dwarf loggers. The foreman's father, Mr. Eibhear, is a master dwarf blacksmith. It is said that he is also a quite famous weapon master among the Mahakam carbon mountain dwarves."
"I just met him yesterday and had a drink with him, so we have a little friendship."
Speaking of this, the fat merchant pondered for a few seconds, tapped the table with his index finger wearing a gemstone ring, and said:
"However, you also know that most dwarves have strange personalities. This Master Eibhear is not short of money. If you want him to forge a weapon for you, I don't know if he is willing."
"I can write you a letter of introduction, but you have to solve the subsequent matters yourself."
Being able to get this answer, Wayne was also quite satisfied. He nodded and thanked him sincerely:
"Thank you, Mr. Leuvaarden."
After leaving the Kingfisher Inn, the two set off to return to the Fox Tavern. Geralt asked with interest:
"Wayne, you are looking for a dwarf blacksmith, do you want to forge any equipment?"
Wayne turned his head and looked at Geralt, patted the steel sword at his waist, and said:
"You should be able to guess, right? I only have a steel sword now, not a silver sword yet. Every time I fight, I have to borrow your silver sword. If I encounter an emergency, wouldn't that be very dangerous?"
Geralt nodded, but asked with some surprise:
"Have you saved enough money? My master-level silver sword was forged in Novigrad, which cost me almost a thousand crowns. I saved for a full two years to save enough money."
Actually, for this question, Wayne was a bit hard to explain. He had been buying a new house and forging a silver sword recently. These two expenses were not small. He and Geralt had been together, and there was no good excuse for the origin of this money.
So, Wayne could only vaguely say:
"I made a small fortune when I defeated the Wild Dog Gang last time."
"Although it is not enough to pay for these two expenses, I will find a way when the time comes."
Seeing this, Geralt didn't ask any more questions but patted Wayne on the shoulder.
The money on him was only enough for expenses. After going to the Queen of the Night club last time, it had been spent seven or eight-tenths, and there was no extra money to lend to Wayne.
After returning to the Fox Tavern, Geralt's butt hadn't sat still yet, Dandelion ran over again. He whispered a few words in Geralt's ear, and the two of them went out again with their arms around each other's shoulders.
Wayne probably guessed what the two of them wanted to do. It was estimated that they wanted to go to rescue those women who had fallen into the dust again.
Ever since Wayne refused their invitations several times, the two of them didn't invite him to go together when they went to that kind of place.
Wayne was not interested in these mediocre beauties. It just so happened that Geralt was not by his side in the afternoon, so he could prepare to open another wave of treasure chests with peace of mind.
Next, whether it was forging a silver sword or buying a house, a large sum of money was needed. He had less than a thousand orens in total now. It was estimated that he needed to prepare at least three thousand orens or more to cover the expenses of these two things.
He greeted Old York standing behind the counter, and Wayne was about to go upstairs to open the chest. Old York suddenly said:
"Hey! Little bastard, I have already sold your things. Remember to come to me to get the money."
Hearing this, Wayne turned his head and looked at Old York, feeling a bit emotional. A local snake is a local snake. In less than a week, he had handled those stolen goods.
He needed money now, which was simply sending charcoal in the snow.
He thanked Old York a few times, but Old York didn't appreciate it, but snorted and said:
"Hmph! It will be your mother's death anniversary soon. Remember to donate a sum of money to the Melitele Church and worship your mother well."
"No matter what, if it weren't for her insisting on sending you to be a Witcher, maybe you would have died long ago."
(Thanks to the two big bosses for the tips today, thank you for your support. PS: Your names are all numbers and cannot be copied. I'll be lazy and won't write them down. Mwah!)
