Chapter 339: Not a Clueless Cop
"Phew—"
After a whole night of upheaval, Satomiwaako's mental state wasn't great by morning.
Although her mental state wasn't great, Satomiwaako's mood was actually quite good.
Yesterday she had led the team and captured the members of the supermarket robber gang that had been making waves recently.
The ringleader was shot dead on the spot, and all four main members were successfully apprehended.
Because the supermarket robber gang had caused quite a lot of trouble recently, capturing those main members counted as a considerable achievement.
Not only Satomiwaako—every officer who took part in yesterday's capture operation earned a share of that credit.
But because the intel on the robber gang's location had been provided by Satomiwaako, her promotion file had been bumped up a tier.
"Yesterday's success was really thanks to his intel."
Satomiwaako was genuinely glad she had trusted the information Ren Amamiya had given her yesterday.
In truth, she herself couldn't have guaranteed the intel was real.
Yet she had felt, almost instinctively, that he was someone worth trusting.
She hadn't expected that everything would turn out exactly as Ren Amamiya's intel had said.
"I really can't imagine how he managed to be so certain."
Satomiwaako pressed her lips together slightly; her curiosity about that young man had only grown.
Of course, no matter what, she still needed to thank him for his help.
And from the sound of it, Superintendent Matsumoto seemed quite supportive of her doing so.
Superintendent Matsumoto's attitude had been rather odd.
Yes, Satomiwaako hadn't failed to notice Superintendent Matsumoto's strangeness.
Inspector Megure didn't say anything at the time, but I know this really isn't by the book.
Yet Superintendent Matsumoto didn't seem to care who it was that had given me the intel.
Satomiwaako paused.
Her brain just couldn't quite work out why.
She glanced down at the phone in her hand, and a sudden spark of inspiration struck her.
She checked the time.
6:35—that should be about time to get up.
Thinking that, Satomiwaako dialed that young man's number.
The call went through almost immediately.
"Good morning. Yesterday's matter has been wrapped up; I only just now had a moment to rest."
"…Although I'd love to offer some congratulations, Officer Sato, I'm not your superior."
The implication: no need to call first thing in the morning to give a report.
"I know. Actually, I wanted to ask what you think—there's something I can't figure out."
"Something you can't figure out?"
