Chapter 21: New Job
Early in the morning, Ye Feng turned over, opened his eyes, and looked hazily at his phone.
It was only six in the morning, and he didn't really want to get up, so he dozed off again.
"Thump, thump, thump!"
A few minutes later, violent knocking sounded, and Ye Feng was jolted awake by the noise.
Ye Linger's voice came from outside the door: "Get up, Brother, you promised me you'd take me to school today!"
"Alright!"
Ye Feng replied, got up, and quickly put on his clothes.
Last night, he had indeed promised Ye Linger he would take her to school.
After a simple wash, Ye Feng made breakfast and simultaneously brewed his mother's medicine.
After eating, Ye Feng watched his mother drink the pungent herbal medicine; he had to admit, her condition was indeed much better than before.
"Let's go, Brother!"
At this moment, Ye Linger walked out, pulling a suitcase.
Ye Feng nodded and went out with Ye Linger.
They hailed a taxi, and it took the two of them over ten minutes to reach Tianhai University.
"Don't forget to pay back the money you borrowed from your roommate!"
Watching Ye Linger walk into the school gate, Ye Feng shouted at her back.
Ye Linger waved her hand, as if to say she knew.
Just as Ye Feng turned to leave, a recruitment advertisement caught his attention: "Driver and bodyguard for the president of Gu Group; must be agile and have a strong sense of responsibility; generous benefits, base salary of ten thousand, five insurances and one housing fund!"
Ye Feng's heart stirred; he didn't have a job right now, and this position was indeed quite suitable for him.
Afterwards, Ye Feng hailed a taxi and headed straight for Gu Group.
Gu Group was the largest investment group in Tianhai City, a publicly listed company with a market value of nearly one hundred billion; being able to work here, even as just a driver, was a job that ordinary people dreamed of!
The recruitment process was unexpectedly smooth.
Relying on his outstanding agility and calm temperament, Ye Feng quickly passed the initial screening.
On the other side, at the very top of Gu Group, inside the president's office, Gu Ran was holding a document, frowning as she flipped through it.
"Thump, thump, thump..."
A knock sounded, and a man in a black suit walked in.
"President, this is today's interview list, please take a look..."
The man handed over a list and said in a respectful tone.
Gu Ran took the list and flipped through it; after only a few pages, she saw a familiar name, and she handed the document back, saying: "Let it be him!"
The man looked at it and replied: "Alright!"
Afterwards, he exited the office and returned to the interview location.
Looking around, the man finally found Ye Feng in a corner; he beckoned Ye Feng over and said: "Congratulations, you passed the initial screening, the president wants to see you!"
After saying this, he turned and walked out.
Ye Feng scratched his head and followed.
Originally, he had just been trying it out with a wait-and-see attitude; he hadn't expected to actually pass!
Following the man in the suit, Ye Feng arrived at the top-floor president's office.
After knocking, Ye Feng followed the assistant inside.
As soon as he entered, Ye Feng saw a beautiful figure.
Ye Feng said in surprise: "Miss Gu, it's actually you!"
Gu Ran smiled and pointed to the stool in front, saying: "Sit!"
Ye Feng walked over, pulled out the stool, and sat down; then, he began to observe her closely.
He saw that Gu Ran was wearing a capable black professional suit, her long hair was pinned up high, and her face wore a cold, stern expression.
She looked down at Ye Feng's resume and said indifferently: "Ye Feng, I didn't expect you to come for an interview."
Ye Feng smiled slightly, his tone calm: "President Gu, I was just looking for a job; I didn't expect to run into you here."
Gu Ran nodded, said nothing more, and turned to instruct the male assistant beside her: "Li Feng, handle his onboarding procedures; he starts today."
The male assistant was named Li Feng, about thirty years old, wearing a crisp suit, with a hint of arrogance on his face.
Hearing Gu Ran's instruction, a flash of displeasure crossed his eyes, but he still nodded in agreement.
From the two's conversation, it was clear that they knew each other, which made him feel that Ye Feng had gotten in through the back door.
After the onboarding procedures were finished, Li Feng took Ye Feng to the security department and introduced him to the security captain, Zhang Qiang.
Zhang Qiang was a burly middle-aged man with a scar on his face, looking fierce and menacing.
He looked Ye Feng up and down and sneered: "The new guy? I heard you were hired by President Gu herself; you've got some skills."
Ye Feng smiled faintly and didn't respond.
"Work hard!"
Li Feng patted Ye Feng's shoulder, his tone carrying a hint of a threat.
Ye Feng frowned; this person didn't seem to have good intentions!
Sure enough, Li Feng first had him move a large pile of heavy document boxes, then had him go clean the underground garage.
Ye Feng didn't say anything, just kept his head down and worked.
During the lunch break, just as Ye Feng was preparing to go to the cafeteria to eat, he was stopped by Zhang Qiang: "New guy, there's no share for you in the cafeteria; go eat outside."
Ye Feng frowned and was about to say something when Li Feng walked over and sneered: "What, not convinced? President Gu didn't hire you to come here and enjoy yourself; if you can't take it, you can leave now."
Ye Feng looked at their smug expressions and sneered inwardly, but his face remained calm: "I understand."
After speaking, he turned and left the company, bought a boxed meal at the side of the road, and sat on a park bench to eat it.
While eating, he pondered his next plan.
He knew that the harassment from Li Feng and Zhang Qiang was only the beginning, and it would surely become increasingly excessive later on.
Yet, he could never figure out why these two would harass him.
In the afternoon, when Ye Feng returned to the company, he discovered his workstation had been rummaged through and left in a mess, and the documents on his desk had been torn to shreds.
He frowned and was just about to find Li Feng to reason with him when he heard a cold sneer from behind: "What, newcomer, not taking your work seriously, and even losing the documents?"
Ye Feng turned around and saw Li Feng and Zhang Qiang standing not far away, wearing smug smiles on their faces.
He took a deep breath, suppressed the anger in his heart, and said indifferently: "I will reorganize the documents; there is no need for you two to trouble yourselves."
Li Feng gave a cold snort: "It had better be that way. If you delay President Gu's affairs, you won't be able to bear the consequences."
Ye Feng ignored their provocation and silently began to organize the documents.
He knew that he could not be impulsive right now and must endure.
Only by finding a suitable opportunity could he thoroughly resolve these troubles.
After work, Ye Feng was just preparing to leave the company when he ran into Gu Ran.
Gu Ran looked at him with a smile: "Did today's work go smoothly?"
Ye Feng smiled slightly, his tone calm: "It was fine, President Gu need not worry."
Gu Ran nodded and said in a low voice: "Shall we walk together?"
