Chapter 60: If you meet the right person, take them to watch the sunrise
"But..."
Gu Ran looked up, her tear-filled eyes gazing at Ye Feng: "I don't know how to resist. I'm afraid of disappointing my parents, afraid of making them sad..."
Ye Feng reached out to wipe the tears from her face, his tone gentle yet firm: "Gu Ran, you don't need to live for the expectations of others. Do you know? You have the right to pursue your own happiness!"
Gu Ran stared at him blankly, then suddenly threw herself into his arms and began to sob loudly.
Ye Feng gently patted her back, letting her vent all her grievances and pain.
After crying for a good while, Gu Ran finally calmed down. She leaned on Ye Feng's shoulder and whispered: "Ye Feng, can you accompany me to the mountain to watch the sunset once?"
Ye Feng's body stiffened slightly, then he hugged her tightly: "At your service anytime!"
Immediately after, he pulled Gu Ran up and helped her walk toward the car.
Although Gu Ran had drunk quite a bit, she felt incredibly clear-headed at this moment.
She looked at Ye Feng's profile, her heart filled with warmth and a sense of security.
The car drove toward the Summit outside the city, which was the best place to watch the sunrise.
Along the way, Gu Ran leaned against the seat, watching the night scenery flashing past the window, her heart feeling calmer than ever before.
Upon reaching the Summit, Ye Feng parked the car and walked with Gu Ran to the viewing platform.
The night wind was slightly cool, so Ye Feng took off his jacket and draped it over Gu Ran.
"Are you cold?"
He asked softly.
Gu Ran shook her head; under the influence of the alcohol, she actually leaned against Ye Feng's shoulder: "With you here, I'm not cold."
Just like that, the two leaned quietly against each other, waiting for the sunrise.
The horizon gradually turned a pale white, and the first ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds, spilling onto the earth.
Gu Ran looked at the beautiful scenery before her and suddenly understood something.
She whispered: "Ye Feng, do you know why I asked you to come and watch the sunrise with me?"
Ye Feng turned his head to look at her profile.
The morning light fell on her eyelashes, casting a soft halo. He shook his head and asked in a low voice: "Why?"
Gu Ran's gaze remained fixed on the distant horizon, as if lost in memory: "When I was little, my grandfather often took me to watch the sunrise."
"He said that the sunrise represents hope, represents rebirth, and also represents a new beginning."
"Every time I encountered something unhappy, Grandfather would take me to the Summit, the seaside, or the Moat to wait for the sun to rise."
"He said that as long as you see the sun rise, all your troubles will disappear along with the night."
Her voice was soft, carrying a hint of nostalgia: "The day Grandfather passed away was also in the early morning."
"That day, he held my hand and said: 'Ranran, you must learn to watch the sunrise by yourself in the future. Remember, no matter what happens, the sun will always rise.'"
"Ever since then, I have loved watching the sunrise."
"Every time I feel lost or helpless, I find a place by myself and wait for the sun to rise."
Ye Feng listened quietly, a sense of bitterness welling up in his heart.
He had never heard Gu Ran mention these things, nor had he ever seen such a fragile side of her.
He reached out and gently held her hand, her cool body temperature passing through his fingertips.
"Thank you for bringing me here!"
Ye Feng said in a low voice: "This is my first time watching the sunrise so seriously."
Gu Ran turned her head, looked into his eyes, and smiled slightly: "Actually, I asked you to come today not just because I wanted to watch the sunrise."
"I hope that from today on, you can accompany me to welcome every new beginning."
"No matter how difficult the future is, I hope you can stay by my side."
Ye Feng's heart trembled violently, and he squeezed her hand: "I will, Gu Ran."
"No matter what happens, I will always stand firmly by your side!"
Gu Ran's eyes turned slightly red, but she did not let the tears fall.
She took a deep breath, looked up at the sun that had already risen, and whispered: "Ye Feng, do you know? I really want to live for myself once."
"But..."
As she spoke, Gu Ran stopped. The sun had fully risen, and her eyes, whether from the sunlight or her emotions, had long since turned red.
Ye Feng reached out and gently cupped her face, his gaze gentle and firm: "There are no 'buts.' You are you, a you who is not bound by anyone!"
Gu Ran's tears finally could not be held back and fell.
She threw herself into Ye Feng's arms and hugged him tightly, as if to vent all her grievances and unease.
Ye Feng gently patted her back, letting her cry in his arms.
After a good while, Gu Ran's emotions finally calmed down.
She looked up, wiped her tears, and revealed a forced smile: "I'm sorry, am I being too sentimental?"
Ye Feng shook his head and reached out to wipe the tear stains from her face: "Silly, you don't need to put on a brave front in front of me. From now on, cry when you want to cry, laugh when you want to laugh; I will always be by your side."
Gu Ran looked at him, and a warm current surged in her heart.
She suddenly felt that as long as Ye Feng was there, no difficulty seemed like anything at all.
The two sat quietly on the Summit, just looking up at the sky, not knowing what they were thinking.
Gu Ran leaned on Ye Feng's shoulder and whispered: "Ye Feng, thank you."
"Thank you for being willing to watch the sunrise with me. My grandfather also said..."
Halfway through her sentence, Gu Ran stopped.
"Said what else?"
Ye Feng looked at her affectionately, a flash of confusion in his eyes.
Morning light spilled onto the two of them, warm and bright.
Gu Ran stood up and stretched, a relaxed smile finally appearing on her face: "It doesn't matter anymore, let's go, it's time for us to head back."
Ye Feng nodded and took her hand, walking toward the car.
Back in the car, Gu Ran leaned against the seat, watching the scenery flying past outside the window, her heart feeling peaceful as never before.
The car soon stopped at the dilapidated residential complex; Gu Ran stayed in the car the whole time, only going upstairs with Ye Feng after he finished parking.
Arriving upstairs, Gu Ran stopped at the doorway of her room; she held the doorknob and looked at Ye Feng, a trace of unease in her eyes: "Ye Feng, will you really always stand on my side?"
Ye Feng patted her shoulder, his gaze firm and gentle: "I will, Gu Ran."
"No matter what happens, I will stand on your side. You don't need to doubt, and you don't need to be afraid; I will prove it to you with my actions!"
Gu Ran looked at him, and the last trace of unease in her heart dissipated.
She nodded and said softly: "I believe you."
Ye Feng smiled and reached out to ruffle her hair: "Go back inside quickly, get some good rest, and call me anytime if anything comes up."
Gu Ran nodded and pushed the door open to return to her home.
After returning home, she did not rest immediately, but walked to the window, looked at the distant sky, and the corners of her mouth lifted slightly.
"My grandfather once said, if you meet the right person, take him to watch the sunrise..."
"Ye Feng, will you be that right person?"
