Chapter 507: Seems Tailor-Made
Hēimǎng is Dìshì.
What exactly is Dìshì's true form? Even Dìluán cannot be completely certain.
Under certain conditions he can split off a fēnshēn, the fēnshēn can continue the lineage, he can sew together others' body parts…… all of this is related to his mastery of witchcraft.
Dìluán said he was like a ghost, appearing out of thin air.
I, however, think perhaps it's because he has existed for too long, too long.
So long that everyone who knew him is already gone.
So long that he has enough time to study, to scheme, to arrange……
What can we use to fight against the river of time?
From the information we currently control, what Dìshì has always sought is immortality and power.
Dìluán lost, and in the end could only say: He cannot contend with the heavenly dao's cycle of reincarnation!
But if the heavenly dao's reincarnation really would intervene against him, how could he have grown to this point?
Why has the heavenly dao's reincarnation not come to settle the killing karma he has created?
Yes, why?
Could it be that Dìshì himself is not subject to the heavenly dao's reincarnation?
If that were true, he wouldn't need to go to such great lengths.
Then what is his situation?
I thought about it and suddenly realized something.
It's the fēnshēn!
His many fēnshēn handle affairs for him, bear calamities for him, and keep him well protected in dark places!
But why can he split off so many fēnshēn?
In the Great Witch's witchcraft notes, it indeed records a kind of worm that can split off a fēnshēn, called a slug.
That is the very common mucus worm.
But actually that kind of fēnshēn is not considered a true fēnshēn in the proper sense.
The slug is a hermaphroditic organism, possessing two sets of reproductive systems and being quite robust; when conditions for heterosexual reproduction are insufficient, it can accomplish self-reproduction, thereby achieving the effect of a fēnshēn.
Dìshì is obviously not this case, because I have seen the situation of fēnshēn generation in the Linghai Forbidden Ground.
That was born from encountering a heavenly tribulation.
This secret, probably only Dìshì himself can explain.
I again turned back and scanned the content on the paper; Dìluán really provided me with a lot of information.
This makes me feel that using a drop of lamp oil to ferry Dìluán into reincarnation is also not impossible.
Of course, ferrying such a heavily karmic person into reincarnation will inevitably create karmic obstacles for me.
But as Feng Xianqiu said, if one is still muddled in this life, why bother thinking about the next?
At least at this moment, I feel that this transaction with Dìluán is still worthwhile.
When I came from the entrance of the Feng Clan, I saw a vast expanse of red spider lilies, but I did not see the shadow of the black mandrake within.
I never expected that Dìluán had already prepared the earth yin pills.
But why does he say I can learn to make earth yin pills, yet I cannot use them myself?
I raised my eyes and glanced again at the hidden compartment, really wanting to take the box out and look at it once more.
Just then, the outside light suddenly went out, the room instantly fell into darkness; I covered the soul-guiding lamp with its black cloth, hid the letter in my sleeve, and sat upright on the bed.
Soon, someone else came in.
Still coming to check on my condition.
I still asked that sentence: "What's happening outside? Can you tell me?"
"It's none of your business; ask less."
The door was slammed shut with a bang, and then locked.
The room had an oil lamp and also candles, but I didn't want to light them; it was already late at night, and dawn would come soon.
I curled up under the blanket and slept in a daze, a second sleep.
I originally thought that after dawn, someone would come to take me out for questioning.
Not Feng Xianqiu, but possibly Dìshì.
After all, Feng Xianqiu's betrayal has put the situation out in the open; Dìshì is very likely to confront me directly.
But there was none.
Over the next few days, my life became terrifyingly quiet.
Dìshì did not appear, and Feng Xianqiu did not seek me.
Even Wu Ling seemed to have disappeared.
Each day, besides the person who brings me food, there is the one who collects my dirty clothes and brings clean clothes; it's very fixed, and the time they come in is also brief.
At first I didn't dare act rashly; after secretly burning that letter, I also successfully took out that box twice.
I found the box containing the earth yin pills; inside were a total of seven earth yin pills, making up one course of treatment.
Earth yin pills are made by taking the earth yin worm parasitic on the roots of the black mandrake and mixing it with other ingredients.
The earth yin worm lives by absorbing the yin qi of the underworld's earth veins and the juice of the black mandrake, while the black mandrake itself grows in the underworld, its juice being toxic.
Therefore the earth yin worm is extremely yin and cold, carrying poison; ordinary constitutions cannot withstand it at all.
This is why I cannot take it.
But it made me think of the Seven Halls Yama.
The earth yin pill seems to be tailor-made for the Seven Halls Yama.
However, the physique of the Seven Halls Yama fears neither extreme yin nor extreme cold, but it does fear poison; therefore the medicinal pills are made small, divided into seven doses, to be taken one every seven days, weakening the poison's potency while being used together with another kind of detox pill left by Dìluán.
I also briefly studied the maps that Dìluán left for me.
One of them is a hand-drawn map of the Feng Clan, deliberately marking the location of the cold pool in the interior of Phoenix Ridge.
Another map concerns that underground mountain cave.
I then took those several architectural drawings out separately and pieced them together.
At first I didn't realize what building was depicted, because it was in black and white, showing only the structural framework; I am not a professional and lack the ability to see through it at a glance.
But when I finally pieced them together and looked at the center of the architectural drawing, I felt an indescribable sense of familiarity.
It felt as if I had seen this kind of building structure somewhere before.
I had no pen in hand, so I could only slowly trace those lines with my fingertip; when the central building structure gradually formed in my mind, I suddenly realized that this was actually the divine temple I had seen in the Mysterious Phoenix Dream Realm!
Yes, I should have guessed that earlier.
My first face-to-face encounter with Dìluán was in that divine temple; at the time I was truly astonished by him.
He is so familiar with the divine temple; how could he have omitted such important information?
But as I kept looking, I discovered that some places seemed problematic.
When my finger traced along another direction, the temple framework that had just been upright actually turned upside down.
This feeling was strange, making me involuntarily recall the twelve-story pagoda in the Jiǔyàn qū.
The layout of that pagoda is exactly like this.
From the ground it appears to have only three stories, but in fact there are nine more underground.
The upper six stories stand upright in a conical shape, while the lower six stories are inverted cones.
Could it be that the space I was in at that time was upright, with an inverted counterpart below?
But soon I realized that this also didn't seem right.
Because in the twelve-story pagoda, the twelve levels do not overlap except at their junctions.
Whereas in the central part of the temple on this architectural drawing, many areas overlap.
This shows that it is not merely a relationship of upright and inverted.
Unable to figure it out, I can only memorize the overall structure as best I can, and later, if I manage to escape from here, I will find someone to study it.
Then I also flipped through the thin notes left by Dìluán.
Besides some rare medicinal pill formulas, there are also shamanic arts.
The shamanic arts recorded in the notes are mainly divided into two parts.
One part concerns the stitching-monster's stitching shamanic art, but the records are not detailed, possibly because Dìluán himself never fully figured out what was going on.
And the other part is actually the fourth chapter of the Five Chapters of Dream Weaving—Regression!
