Chapter 136: Xia Yurou Poisoned
Xia Yurou's consciousness was fuzzy; she couldn't hear what Jiangnan was saying at all.
She only felt her body getting hotter, as if she were about to melt.
"I... I feel terrible..."
She murmured, clutching Jiangnan tightly.
Jiangnan sensed the abnormality in Xia Yurou's body and immediately understood she had been poisoned.
He lifted Xia Yurou and hurried out.
Jiangnan gently placed Xia Yurou on the bed.
Xia Yurou's cheeks were flushed, her breathing rapid, her body twisting continuously.
She shut her eyes tightly, her brows knit, as if enduring immense pain.
Jiangnan sat at the bedside, staring at Xia Yurou.
He extended his right hand, lightly placing it on Xia Yurou's pulse.
A flow of true Qi slowly entered Xia Yurou's body.
The true Qi roamed within Xia Yurou, seeking the scorching drug force.
Xia Yurou's body trembled slightly.
She felt a cool breath spreading inside her.
The scorching heat gradually dissipated.
Xia Yurou's breathing gradually steadied.
She slowly opened her eyes and saw Jiangnan sitting at the bedside.
"You... you saved me?"
Xia Yurou's voice was weak, tinged with gratitude.
Jiangnan nodded.
"You were poisoned."
A flash of terror crossed Xia Yurou's eyes.
"It was that bastard Chen Haonan!"
She gritted her teeth, wishing she could tear Chen Haonan's body to pieces.
"He's already been neutralized by me."
Jiangnan's tone was calm, as if stating something trivial.
Xia Yurou was startled, then a strange gleam flashed in her eyes.
"You... you're truly amazing!"
She looked at Jiangnan, her eyes full of admiration.
"You rest first; I'll go fetch you a glass of water."
Jiangnan rose, preparing to leave.
"Don't go!"
Xia Yurou suddenly grabbed Jiangnan's hand.
Her gaze was dazed, her voice carrying a hint of pleading.
"I... I'm scared..."
Jiangnan looked at Xia Yurou, his heart softening.
"Fine, I won't go."
He sat back at the bedside.
Xia Yurou clutched Jiangnan's arm tightly, as if seizing a lifeline.
She rested her head on Jiangnan's shoulder, feeling the warmth radiating from him.
"Thank you, Mr. Jiang."
She whispered softly.
"No need to thank me."
Jiangnan's voice was low.
The room fell silent.
Only the faint breaths of the two could be heard.
Xia Yurou closed her eyes, savoring the moment of tranquility.
She felt as if she were in a warm harbor, safe and comfortable.
Suddenly, Xia Yurou opened her eyes.
She looked at Jiangnan, a strange light flashing in her eyes.
"Mr. Jiang, do... do you think I'm beautiful?"
Her voice was gentle, with a hint of seduction.
Jiangnan was taken aback; he hadn't expected Xia Yurou to ask that suddenly.
"You are beautiful."
He answered truthfully.
Xia Yurou's mouth curved slightly, revealing a smug smile.
"Then why... why don't you feel anything for me?"
She leaned forward, drawing close to Jiangnan.
The distance between them grew ever closer.
The faint fragrance on Xia Yurou's body drifted into Jiangnan's nostrils.
Jiangnan felt his heartbeat quicken.
He forced himself to calm down.
"I have a woman."
Jiangnan's voice was low, with a hint of resolve.
Xia Yurou's body stiffened; she hadn't expected Jiangnan to be so direct.
"I don't care!"
Her gaze was firm, she did not retreat.
"But I do care."
Jiangnan looked at Xia Yurou, his eyes clear.
A flicker of loss passed through Xia Yurou's eyes, but she did not give up.
"How am I inferior to her?"
Her voice carried a hint of unwillingness.
Jiangnan did not answer; he didn't know how to respond to this question.
Xia Yurou looked at Jiangnan's silent demeanor, her reluctance grew stronger.
She suddenly rose and straddled Jiangnan.
"I don't believe you really have no feelings for me!"
She leaned down and kissed Jiangnan.
Jiangnan's body tensed; he hadn't expected Xia Yurou to be so bold.
He wanted to push Xia Yurou away, but found he couldn't muster any strength.
Xia Yurou's kiss carried a hint of madness and obsession.
She clung tightly to Jiangnan, as if trying to fuse him into her body.
Jiangnan closed his eyes, striving to control his mind.
He could not, he could not betray his woman.
"Enough!"
Jiangnan shoved Xia Yurou away forcefully.
Xia Yurou was pushed onto the bed, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Why? Why won't you accept me?"
Her voice choked, with a hint of despair.
Jiangnan looked at Xia Yurou, a sharp pain stabbing his heart.
He knew he had hurt her.
"Sorry."
His voice was low, tinged with apology.
Xia Yurou looked at Jiangnan, her tears flowing more fiercely.
She couldn't understand what was wrong with her.
Why would Jiangnan refuse to accept her?
In the room, silence fell.
Only Xia Yurou's soft sobs could be heard.
Jiangnan stood by the bed, his heart filled with guilt.
He didn't know how to comfort Xia Yurou, so he could only silently watch her.
After a long while, Xia Yurou stopped crying.
She lifted her head and looked at Jiangnan.
"Go away."
Her voice was hoarse, tinged with fatigue.
Jiangnan looked at Xia Yurou, opened his mouth, but couldn't say anything.
He turned and left the room.
Xia Yurou watched Jiangnan's retreating back, a complex emotion flickering in her eyes.
She knew that between her and Jiangnan, it was forever impossible.
Yet she simply could not let go.
Moonlight streamed into the room, falling on Xia Yurou's face.
Her face was streaked with tears.
Xia Yurou herself didn't know when she had started to like Jiangnan.
Perhaps it was when he spent a fortune, giving her the Crystal Heart?
Or perhaps after he had saved her countless times?
A flash of determination flickered in Xia Yurou's eyes, quickly replacing her previous sorrow.
She was the eldest daughter of the Tang Family; although she had fallen out with her parents, she remained proud and lofty-eyed.
Jiangnan, I will surely win you!
……
In the hotel lobby,
Ma Rubo and the others had already sent Chen Haonan to the hospital,
Zhou Hexuan, however, no one paid attention to him; he immediately found Jiangnan and said solemnly:
"We must leave immediately."
"Chen Haonan is the Chen family's only male descendant; this matter will absolutely not be let go."
Jiangnan nodded, his eyes deep, showing no emotional fluctuation.
He turned and walked toward Xia Yurou's room.
He pushed open the door; inside the room the light was soft, and Xia Yurou sat quietly by the window.
She had changed into a light purple dress that outlined her graceful figure.
Hearing the door open, Xia Yurou turned, a faint smile on her face.
It seemed as if nothing that had happened before had left any trace in her heart.
"Let's go."
Xia Yurou lightly opened her vermilion lips, her voice as pleasant as an oriole's.
Jiangnan looked at her, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.
"Aren't you afraid?"
"Afraid of what?"
Xia Yurou countered, the corners of her mouth slightly turning up.
"The Chen family."
Jiangnan uttered the two words.
"With you here, I'm not afraid."
Xia Yurou stepped toward Jiangnan, her eyes resolute.
Jiangnan remained silent; he knew Xia Yurou had made up her mind to follow him.
He said nothing more, turned and walked out of the room.
Xia Yurou followed closely behind; the two walked side by side.
In the hotel lobby, Zhou Hexuan had already been waiting for a long time.
