Chapter 199: Asking Jiangnan for Help

~6 min read 1,099 words

Outside the banquet hall, Yu Chengye was like an ant on a hot pan, restless and uneasy.

He gripped his mobile phone tightly, dialing Xia Yurou's number again and again, yet the other end kept emitting a cold mechanical female voice:

"Sorry, the number you dialed is currently unanswered…"

Yu Chengye's heart sank little by little; he knew Xia Yurou was deliberately not answering his calls.

But now he could no longer worry about that; he had to find Jiangnan, only Jiangnan could save him and the Yu family!

Yu Chengye felt his shoulder getting itchier,

the itch like countless ants crawling through the bone seams, making him want to tear the whole flesh off.

He stripped off his coat, stared at the bruised spot on his shoulder that had begun to fester, fear filling his eyes.

That bruise was like a death talisman, constantly reminding him that death was closing in step by step.

No! He couldn't wait for death! He had to find Jiangnan!

Yu Chengye spun around abruptly, stumbling toward the parking lot.

He now had only one thought: to find Jiangnan and beg him to save himself and the Yu family.

He drove at speed toward the hotel where Jiangnan and Xia Yurou were staying.

Outside the car window, the night was deep, streetlamp shadows streaked backward, yet Yu Chengye felt bewildered inside.

He didn't know if he could find Jiangnan, nor whether Jiangnan would help, but he had to try; it was his only hope.

Meanwhile, in a hotel room, Xia Yurou was nestled in Jiangnan's arms, enjoying this rare moment of peace.

"Jiangnan, let's go."

Xia Yurou suddenly spoke,

"I don't want to stay here any longer."

"Fine."

Jiangnan gently stroked Xia Yurou's silky hair and said softly,

"Wherever you want to go, I'll go with you."

Xia Yurou nodded, a happy smile appearing on her face.

The two quickly packed up and left the room.

They arrived at the hotel lobby to process checkout.

At that moment, a rapid footstep sounded, interrupting them.

"Jiangnan! Xia Yurou!"

Yu Chengye's voice came from behind, tinged with panic and urgency.

Xia Yurou's brows furrowed slightly; she turned, looking at the sweating, disheveled Yu Chengye, a flash of disgust in her eyes.

"Yu Chengye, are you ever going to stop?"

Xia Yurou's voice was cold, with a hint of anger,

"I've already made it clear: there's no relationship between us; please stop harassing me!"

Yu Chengye's body trembled slightly; looking at Xia Yurou's ice‑cold face, a sting pierced his heart.

He knew Xia Yurou truly despised him, but now he could no longer worry about that.

He had to find Jiangnan; only Jiangnan could save him!

"Xia Yurou, I'm not here to find you; I'm here to find Jiangnan!"

Yu Chengye's voice trembled a bit as he strained to control his emotions and said,

"I have something very important to discuss with him!"

"Looking for me?"

Jiangnan's brows lifted slightly; he looked at Yu Chengye and asked lightly,

"What matter?"

Yu Chengye said nothing, then with a thud he knelt before Jiangnan, pleading,

"Jiangnan, please, save me, save our Yu family!"

The scene left everyone present stunned.

No one expected the illustrious eldest young master of the Yu family to kneel before Jiangnan!

A flash of surprise crossed Xia Yurou's eyes; she hadn't expected Yu Chengye to act so.

"Save you?"

Jiangnan's face showed no expression; he looked at the kneeling Yu Chengye and said calmly,

"Why should I save you?"

"I…"

Yu Chengye was at a loss for words, not knowing how to reply.

"Yu Chengye, are you insane?"

Xia Yurou couldn't help but say, "What makes you think Jiangnan would save you? Have you forgotten how you treated him before?"

"I…"

Pain etched across Yu Chengye's face; of course he hadn't forgotten how he had treated Jiangnan before.

But now he had nowhere to turn; he could only beg Jiangnan, his only hope.

"Jiangnan, I know I've done many things that wronged you; I apologize!"

Yu Chengye's voice trembled with sobs,

"But now I truly need your help; please, save me, save our Yu family!"

"I can't help you."

Jiangnan's voice was still cold.

"You'd better pray for your own blessings."

"No! You can do it! You definitely can!"

Yu Chengye's emotions flared, and he shouted

, "Didn't you say our Yu family was cursed? You must have a way to lift that curse, right?"

"Curse?"

Jiangnan's brows twitched slightly; he looked at Yu Chengye and said lightly,

"I was just speaking offhand, and you actually took it seriously?"

"No! This wasn't offhand! It's real!"

Yu Chengye's voice trembled,

"Our Yu family really is cursed; my grandfather, my uncle, my father—they're all dead. The next could be me and my brother!"

"How did they die?"

"They... they just collapsed suddenly, and then... they were gone..."

Yu Chengye's voice grew softer, and his eyes were filled with terror,

"They all had a bruise on their bodies, just like the one on my shoulder..."

As he spoke, he removed his coat, revealing the bruised spot on his shoulder that had already begun to fester.

Xia Yurou saw the bruise and couldn't help but gasp sharply; her complexion turned pale and her body trembled slightly.

The bruise was terrifying, like a demon's mark that sent shivers down one's spine.

"Jiangnan, what on earth is happening?"

Xia Yurou's voice quivered slightly as she clutched Jiangnan's arm tightly, as if only that could give her a hint of safety.

Jiangnan remained silent, his gaze fixed on the bruise on Yu Chengye's shoulder, a strange glint flashing in his eyes.

"Jiangnan, please, save me, save our Yu family!"

Yu Chengye pleaded again,

"If you're willing to save us, you can make me do anything!"

"I've said it, I can't help you."

Jiangnan's voice was still cold,

"This is the fate of your Yu family; no one can change it."

"No! You can! You definitely can!"

Yu Chengye's emotions surged again, and he suddenly thought of something, shouting,

"Right! Feng Family! I know something about the Feng Family! I can tell you about the Feng Family!"

"Feng Family?" Jiangnan's brows lifted slightly; he looked at Yu Chengye, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes,

"What do you know about the Feng Family?"

"I... I know the Feng Family..."

Yu Chengye's voice trembled a bit as he strained to recall,

"I once heard my father say that the Feng Family is deeply hidden; the divine dragon is seen... the head... not the tail. Our Yu family is like ants before them..."
