Chapter 67: Chen Ying's Doubt

~6 min read 1,171 words

Jiangnan glanced at Li Vice Principal, his gaze calm, without any ripple.

He turned his head toward Chen Ying and said lightly:

"Chen Ying, let's go."

"Alright, Mr. Jiang!"

……

Jiangnan and Chen Ying turned and left, while Li Vice Principal remained where he stood, his complexion shifting unpredictably.

He watched Jiangnan's back, a flash of resentment and malice passing through his eyes.

"Hmph, playing tricks and pretenses, I'm curious to see what tricks you can pull!"

He let out a cold snort, then pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

"Hello, Yang Ju, it's Old Li…"

His voice was low, tinged with a hint of flattery.

"Yes, yes, it's that young man named Jiangnan…"

"He came to our school, claiming he wants to protect the school's safety…"

"But he actually had all our teachers go claim some talismans— isn't that feudal superstition?"

"Yang Ju, you have to intervene; if this spreads, our school's reputation will be ruined!"

On the other end, Yang Ju's voice fell silent for a moment.

"Old Li, regarding this matter, just follow Jiangnan's arrangement."

Yang Ju's voice sounded somewhat helpless.

"What? Yang Ju, how come you also…"

Li Vice Principal wore a shocked expression; he hadn't expected Yang Ju to also believe Jiangnan's scheme.

"Old Li, Jiangnan is no ordinary person; he has real skill."

Yang Ju explained patiently.

"But…"

Li Vice Principal was about to say something else, but was cut off by Yang Ju.

"Old Li, listen to me, it's correct—if anything happens, I'll take responsibility!"

Yang Ju's tone was firm, leaving no room for doubt.

"Alright… fine."

Li Vice Principal sighed helplessly; he knew that since Yang Ju said so, any further opposition was futile.

He hung up, and Li Vice Principal's expression became ever‑changing.

He watched the direction Jiangnan was heading, a flash of complex emotion passing through his eyes.

"Hmph, I want to see exactly what real skill you have!"

He let out a cold snort and turned toward the office.

……

Chen Ying followed closely behind Jiangnan, her delicate brows slightly furrowed, her face full of worry.

She halted, gently biting her lower lip, her eyes filled with confusion and anxiety.

"Jiangnan, are you really not going to help those teachers and students?"

Her voice was gentle, carrying a hint of pleading.

Jiangnan turned slowly, his gaze calm as water, so deep it was unreadable.

He looked at Chen Ying but said nothing.

Chen Ying's voice trembled slightly, her eyes reddening.

"Mr. Jiang, after all this concerns lives—a matter of life and death—are you really going to stand by and do nothing?"

"Yang Ju will arrange everything."

Jiangnan's voice was low, his tone firm, leaving no doubt.

"But…"

Chen Ying tried to say something else, but Jiangnan cut her off.

"I have more important matters to attend to."

He spoke with a detached tone, as if nothing in the world concerned him.

"What could be more important than a life?"

Chen Ying's emotions flared, her voice rose a few notches.

She could not comprehend Jiangnan's coldness, nor accept his indifference to death.

Jiangnan gave no reply, merely watching her silently.

At that moment, Jiangnan's phone suddenly rang.

He took out his phone, glanced at the incoming display—it was Yang Ju calling.

"Hello, Yang Ju."

Jiangnan answered the call.

"Mr. Jiang, Li Vice Principal just called me."

Yang Ju's voice came from the other end, sounding a bit weary.

"I understand."

Jiangnan said lightly.

"He agreed, and asked me to apologize to you."

Yang Ju continued speaking.

"It's fine."

Jiangnan's tone remained calm, and he continued,

"We'll leave the school side to you; be sure to distribute the protective talismans."

"Alright."

Yang Ju's tone was filled with seriousness.

After hanging up, Chen Ying couldn't help but ask,

"Mr. Jiangnan, what did Yang Ju say?"

"Yang Ju said he will handle it."

Jiangnan muttered a line and walked off toward the schoolyard on his own.

Chen Ying immediately exhaled a sigh and suddenly felt a bit regretful.

She seemed... to have wrongly blamed Jiangnan.

"Mr. Jiang, wait for me!"

Chen Ying hurriedly followed Jiangnan as they walked out of the school gate,

"Jiangnan, where are we going now?"

Chen Ying asked softly, her tone carrying a hint of apology,

Jiangnan gave no reply, merely walking straight toward a black sedan parked by the roadside.

Seeing this, Chen Ying quickened her steps, her mind growing more puzzled.

"What is this..."

She stared at the unfamiliar sedan before her, her face full of incomprehension.

"Drive it."

Jiangnan opened the car door, succinctly.

Chen Ying hesitated for a moment, then got in.

She gently started the engine, and the sedan slowly left the school, merging into traffic.

Sunlight streamed through the window, bathing Chen Ying's face, making her confusion crystal clear.

She turned to look at Jiangnan, but saw him gazing straight ahead, his profile sharp and his features hard.

For a moment, Chen Ying felt a bit lost.

She let out a light cough, interrupting her chaotic thoughts.

She exhaled lightly and asked,

"Mr. Jiang, where are we heading?"

"First take the ring road; after two hours, we'll change cars."

"Change cars?"

Chen Ying was startled, then quickly recovered.

"Oh, okay, I'll contact right away."

She took out her phone and dialed a number.

"Hello, Xiao Wang, prepare a car for me, quickly."

Chen Ying said into the receiver, her tone urgent.

"Got it, arranging immediately."

A young man's voice came from the other end of the line.

After hanging up, Chen Ying looked at Jiangnan, her eyes full of doubt.

"Why change cars?"

She couldn't help but ask.

Jiangnan gave no answer, choosing instead to close his eyes and rest.

Chen Ying, seeing this, could only keep the question buried in her heart.

She waited quietly, her heart full of unease.

Two hours later, the two, under the Security Officer's arrangement, switched to another car.

But Jiangnan still did not speak of the destination, merely letting Chen Ying continue driving along the ring road.

Chen Ying didn't know what Jiangnan intended, nor what would happen next. After much hesitation, she finally asked again:

"Mr. Jiang, where exactly are we going?"

"Circling around."

Jiangnan said lightly, his tone revealing no emotion.

"Circling around?"

Chen Ying grew even more puzzled; she couldn't grasp Jiangnan's intention,

"Circling around within Jinghai City?"

"Yes."

Jiangnan nodded, his gaze deep and unreadable.

"Why?"

Chen Ying couldn't help but ask; she truly couldn't understand the purpose of circling.

"Heaven's plan cannot be disclosed."

Jiangnan said slowly, his tone carrying a hint of mystery.

……

Jinghai City, Museum.

Night falls, the splendid lanterns are just lit.

Inside the Museum, there is complete silence.

A man dressed in a black robe, wearing a totemic mask, stands in the center of the exhibition hall, his gaze cold and grim.

Behind him, a group of people also clad in black robes and wearing masks stand.

"The time is almost up."

The Black-robed Man speaks, his voice hoarse and deep, as if from hell.
