Chapter 70: Special Operations Unit

~6 min read 1,154 words

"Yang Ju, who are they?"

Chen Ying, her mind foggy, couldn't help but ask.

"They are a special department directly under the higher-ups, dedicated to handling major cases."

Yang explained, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness.

"This bank robbery alarmed the superiors, so they sent people to take over."

"Take over?"

Chen Ying's eyebrows furrowed.

"Then what should we do?"

"We..."

Yang gave a wry smile,

"We can only cooperate."

"Cooperate?"

Chen Ying's voice rose a few notches.

"We've toiled investigating for so long, just as results were in sight, they arrive and want to take over—on what grounds?"

"Chen Ying!"

Yang scolded sharply, cutting off Chen Ying's words.

"Watch your language!"

Chen Ying bit her lip, a flash of resentment in her eyes.

She knew Yang also had his difficulties, but she just couldn't swallow that feeling.

Jiangnan gently patted Chen Ying's shoulder, signaling her to calm down.

Then he looked at Yang and spoke slowly.

"Yang Ju, I would like to meet the Special Operations Unit."

Yang nodded, turned, and led Jiangnan and Chen Ying upstairs.

The three arrived at the door of a conference room on the third floor, and Yang gently knocked.

"Please come in."

A deep voice came from inside.

Yang pushed the door open, and led Jiangnan and Chen Ying inside.

Inside the conference room sat several people; among them a middle‑aged man in a black uniform sat at the head, his gaze sharp, his presence imposing.

He is the Group Leader of the Special Operations Unit, Li Feng.

"Li Zuzhang, this is Mr. Jiang, the Special Consultant hired by our Public Security Bureau. This is Chen Ying, Security Officer."

Yang introduced.

Li Feng's gaze swept over Jiangnan and Chen Ying, finally resting on Jiangnan.

He squinted slightly, as if examining something.

"You are Jiangnan?"

Li Feng spoke, his voice low and magnetic.

"That's me."

Jiangnan replied, his tone calm, neither humble nor arrogant.

Li Feng surveyed Jiangnan from head to toe, a flash of surprise in his eyes.

He could feel that this young man before him bore an unusual aura.

That aura gave him a slight pressure.

Jiangnan's brows furrowed slightly, his gaze landing on Li Feng.

Inside the conference room, the lighting was harsh, stretching each person's shadow long.

Jiangnan keenly sensed a faint aura emanating from Li Feng.

This aura, unlike that of ordinary people, carried a sense of oppression, like a mountain—heavy and immovable.

His mind stirred; he silently circulated his inner true Qi, sensing carefully.

Sure enough, that aura differed fundamentally from his own true Qi, yet shared some similarity.

"This is... Martial Dao True Qi!"

Jiangnan realized that this Li Zuzhang before him was actually a martial Dao master!

No wonder—no wonder he could make Yang cooperate so readily, even to the point of handing over the case Jiangnan had painstakingly investigated.

This Special Operations Unit truly isn't simple.

They not only possess authority directly from higher-ups, but also have formidable strength as backing.

Chen Ying, standing beside Jiangnan, also felt the oppressive aura radiating from Li Feng.

Although she isn't a martial artist, as an excellent Security Officer her intuition is exceptionally sharp.

She could sense that this Li Zuzhang was definitely not a simple figure.

The atmosphere in the conference room grew somewhat solemn.

Li Feng sat upright, his fingertips lightly tapping the table, producing a dull thud.

He lifted his eyes, his gaze landing on Jiangnan's face.

"Mr. Jiang, this Museum theft case—thanks to your intervention."

Li Feng spoke, his tone courteous yet tinged with an undeniable aloofness.

"We will report to the superiors and claim credit for you."

He paused briefly, then continued, saying,

"But the upcoming investigation will be fully handled by our Special Operations Unit; you and Chen Ying may return."

His words were courteous yet firm, leaving no room for negotiation.

Jiangnan slightly raised his eyebrows, silently gazing at Li Feng as if trying to see through the Group Leader's true thoughts.

"Li Zuzhang, what are your plans moving forward?"

Li Feng's gaze hardened, as if he hadn't expected Jiangnan to be so direct.

"Based on your deduction, Black Shadow is likely to act in Jinghai No. 3 Middle School and three other locations."

Li Feng spoke slowly, his voice low,

"Our Special Operations Unit has ample personnel and excellent equipment; we don't need to judge which spot is critical. For these four locations, we will assign personnel to all of them to avoid any oversight."

Confidence seeped into his tone, even a hint of unabashed pride.

Jiangnan listened quietly, without interjecting.

He could feel that, although Li Feng's words were polite, there was an underlying arrogance in his bones.

This arrogance stemmed from the Special Operations Unit's unique status, and further from their formidable strength.

Jiangnan said no more, merely turning his gaze toward the Museum.

He pointed at the ancient building and spoke slowly.

"Have you considered that the opponent might be setting up a formation here?"

Upon hearing this, Li Feng furrowed his brows, seeming a bit puzzled.

Behind him, a young team member couldn't help but speak up.

"That's impossible!"

The team member, named Zhou Cong, was full of youthful vigor, with a hint of disdain on his face.

"You don't understand formation at all!"

Zhou Cong stared straight at Jiangnan, his tone laced with doubt,

"Even if Black Shadow wanted to exploit the principle of extremes reversing, using the Museum as the Formation Core, it would still require a massive amount of Yang energy to drive it."

"There aren't that many people in the Museum; how could it supply enough Yang energy?"

His words were sharp, clearly showing unwavering confidence in his judgment.

He thought Jiangnan's deduction was pure speculation from an outsider.

Inside the conference room, the atmosphere grew heavy again.

Chen Ying stood beside Jiangnan, her brows tightly knit.

She could feel that Zhou Cong's words were full of contempt toward Jiangnan.

This contempt made her angry.

She wanted to rebut him, but Jiangnan's calm gaze suppressed her.

Jiangnan remained calm, his gaze sweeping over Zhou Cong before finally landing on Li Feng.

He offered neither explanation nor argument.

He simply waited quietly for Li Feng's response.

Li Feng sat in the main seat, his gaze deep, revealing no emotion.

After a moment of silence, he spoke slowly.

"Zhou Cong, do not be disrespectful."

Though Li Feng's voice was calm, it carried an undeniable authority.

Zhou Cong's complexion changed at the words, and he lowered his head.

Though youthful and vigorous, he felt sincere awe toward Li Feng.

Li Feng turned his head, looking at Jiangnan.

"Mr. Jiang, we will consider your deduction."

He paused, then continued.

"However, we have our own investigative methods, so we won't trouble you further."

Li Feng's words remained courteous, yet clearly expressed a refusal.

He thanked Jiangnan for his help, but did not wish Jiangnan to continue participating in the investigation.
