Chapter 73: Jiangnan Sets Out
Inside the Public Security Bureau, everything was brightly lit.
Suddenly, a rapid series of phone rings shattered the silence.
In Yang Ju's office, the phone rang incessantly like a death‑summoning talisman.
He snatched the handset, and a hurried, frantic voice came through.
"Yang Ju, something's happened! Li Zuzhang... he's fallen!"
Yang Ju's complexion turned deathly pale, and the phone nearly slipped from his hand.
"What did you say? Li Feng... how could that be?"
His voice trembled, unable to believe it.
"We were attacked by Black Shadow at the Museum; Li Zuzhang covered us and... unfortunately..."
The person on the other end choked, unable to go on.
Yang Ju felt the world spin and his vision go black.
Li Feng is the Group Leader of the Special Operations Unit, a seasoned Master Level expert—how could he have been sacrificed like this?
He forced himself to stay calm and took a deep breath.
"What's the situation now?"
"Our casualties are heavy; we've already withdrawn to the perimeter."
"Understood. Protect yourselves; I'll find a solution immediately."
Yang Ju hung up, his expression dreadfully grim.
He knew this incident was far from trivial.
The death of Master Realm Li Zuzhang was truly heartbreaking!
He must quickly locate someone who can resolve the problem.
A figure flashed through his mind.
Jiangnan!
Perhaps now only he can solve this crisis.
Yang Ju picked up the phone and dialed Jiangnan's number.
The phone rang for a long time before connecting.
"Hello, who is this?"
Jiangnan's voice was as calmly as always.
"Jiangnan, this is Yang Ju."
Yang Ju's voice carried a hint of urgency.
"Yang Ju? What's the matter?"
"Something big happened! Li Feng... he's fallen."
Yang Ju's voice was somewhat choked.
There was a brief silence on the other end.
"What happened?"
Jiangnan's voice remained calm, but Yang Ju detected a subtle change.
"Li Zuzhang was attacked by Black Shadow at the Museum; he covered the others and unfortunately died."
Yang Ju briefly recounted the events.
"Museum?"
Jiangnan's voice finally showed a hint of movement.
"Yes, we suspect Black Shadow's men are inside the Museum."
Yang Ju said.
"Understood."
Jiangnan's voice returned to calm.
"Jiangnan, I know the Special Operations Unit's previous attitude was poor; I hope you will act on behalf of the Jinghai citizens…"
Yang Ju's voice carried a note of pleading.
"I will go."
Jiangnan said.
"Great! I'll dispatch someone to pick you up right away!"
Yang Ju said excitedly.
"No need, I'll go myself."
Jiangnan declined.
"Then… alright, you must be careful!"
Yang Ju hung up and let out a long sigh.
He knew that with Jiangnan agreeing to intervene, there was hope.
Jiangnan put down the phone, his gaze deepening.
He hadn't expected Li Feng to die at Black Shadow's hands.
He was well aware of Li Feng's strength.
A Master Level expert could die so easily.
This gave him a new understanding of Black Shadow's power.
It seemed this matter was more complicated than he had imagined.
He paused in thought for a moment and decided to go to the Museum himself to take a look.
He actually wants to see what purpose these Black Shadows have.
Chen Ying saw Jiangnan hang up the phone, her expression solemn, and couldn't help asking.
"Jiangnan, what happened?"
"Li Feng is dead."
Jiangnan said lightly.
"What? Li Zuzhang…"
Chen Ying's complexion turned deathly pale in an instant.
"Yang Ju asked me to go to the Museum."
Jiangnan said.
"I'll go too!"
Chen Ying replied immediately.
"You can't go."
Jiangnan refused.
"Why?"
Chen Ying asked, puzzled.
"This matter is very dangerous."
"I'm not afraid of danger!"
Chen Ying spoke firmly.
"It's not a question of fearing danger; if you go, you'll only become a burden."
Jiangnan rejected without mercy.
"I…"
Chen Ying's complexion shifted between greenish and white.
She knew Jiangnan was speaking the truth.
Her strength, compared with Jiangnan's, was far inferior.
If she went, she'd only cause trouble for Jiangnan.
"Stay in the bureau and wait for me to return."
"But…"
Chen Ying wanted to say something else, but Jiangnan cut her off.
"There is no 'but', this is an order."
Jiangnan's tone left no room for doubt.
Resigned, Chen Ying could only nod.
"Fine, then you be careful yourself."
Jiangnan said nothing more, turned and left the room.
Night fell low, ink‑black hues painted the sky, shrouding everything in endless Shadow.
Jiangnan rushed to the Museum, a lingering heaviness coiling in his mind.
The wind, carrying a thread of chill, slipped through his clothes down to the marrow.
The Museum stood deep in the night, its outline vague, like a dormant giant beast, silent and eerie.
The building, usually bright with lights, now sank into a dead silence of darkness, only a few emergency lamps emitting weak glows, swaying in the wind, adding to the gloom.
Several pools of dark‑red blood, under the faint light, were shocking to the eye, and the air carried a faint metallic scent that made one feel sick.
The Security Officer who had been guarding here was nowhere to be seen, leaving only an empty post that creaked in the night wind.
Jiangnan halted, looked around, and an ominous foreboding rose in his heart.
Not far away, three silhouettes flickered in the darkness.
By the weak light, Jiangnan recognized them as the Special Operations Unit's Zhou Cong, Xu Mao and Mu Tong.
The three wore grave expressions, as if facing a great enemy.
Zhou Cong was the first to see Jiangnan; his already sullen face was now covered with frost.
He strode forward, blocking Jiangnan's path, his voice icy and piercing: "What are you doing here?"
"Li Feng is dead, Yang Ju sent me over to take a look," Jiangnan replied.
"Take a look? You still have the nerve to come here?"
Zhou Cong's voice suddenly rose, laced with uncontainable fury,
"If it weren't for you, how would Li Zuzhang have died? You Crow Mouth, you're a Disaster Star!"
"Before Li Zuzhang's incident, you insisted he was in danger; now he's actually gone, are you satisfied?"
Zhou Cong gritted his teeth, fists clenched, knuckles turning white.
Jiangnan halted, casting a cold glance at Zhou Cong.
"By your logic, Li Feng's death is still my fault?"
His voice was low, yet carried an imposing chill.
"Isn't that so?"
Zhou Cong glared angrily, as if ready to devour Jiangnan alive.
"If it weren't for you Crow Mouth, how would Li Zuzhang have gotten into trouble?"
"You're a Disaster Star; wherever you go, misfortune follows!"
Jiangnan's mouth corner curled into a mocking arc.
"Since you're so capable, why don't you go in and bring out Li Feng's corpse?"
"Hiding here, barking like a coward—what ability is that?"
These words, like a sharp knife, fiercely stabbed into Zhou Cong's heart.
