Chapter 86: Xingchen Plaza Project

~6 min read 1,199 words

Jinghai City, Cheng Family.

Family Head Cheng Tianhao of the Cheng Family was sitting in the study, listening to reports from his subordinate.

"Family Head, the Ye Family has already begun moving."

The subordinate spoke in a low voice, a hint of tremor in his tone,

"The Xingchen Plaza Project has officially been launched."

Cheng Tianhao furrowed his brows, his expression grim.

"That old Ye Zhentian, his life is truly fortunate."

He let out a cold snort,

"He still couldn't manage to kill him."

The subordinate bowed his head deeply, as if he hadn't heard anything. After a moment, he cautiously asked:

"Family Head, what should we do next?"

"The Xingchen Plaza Project is a juicy piece of meat; we can't just watch it fall into the Ye Family's hands."

A flash of ruthlessness crossed Cheng Tianhao's eyes,

"Hmph, the Ye Family wants to swallow this cake whole, but it's not that easy."

He pondered for a moment, then continued,

"Contact Jia Chenggong for me."

"Yes, Family Head."

The subordinate went to handle it at once.

Soon after, Jia Chenggong arrived in the study.

"Chief Cheng, did you call for me?"

Jia Chenggong bowed his head and waist, his face full of flattery.

"Mm."

Cheng Tianhao nodded.

"What's the situation over at the Ye Family?"

"Replying, Chief Cheng, the Ye Family has already begun fully advancing the Xingchen Plaza Project."

Jia Chenggong answered promptly.

"They seem determined to seize this project."

"Hmph, they dream too big."

Cheng Tianhao let out a cold laugh.

"Jia Chenggong, keep a close watch on every move of the Ye Family for me."

"If there is any wind or grass movement, report to me immediately."

Jia Chenggong pounded his chest to assure.

"Yes, Chief Cheng, rest assured, I will keep the Ye Family under tight surveillance."

Cheng Tianhao nodded with satisfaction, a hint of scheming flashing in his eyes.

"Also, find a way to cause some trouble for the Ye Family."

"Let them know the Xingchen Plaza Project isn't that easy to handle."

Jia Chenggong understood perfectly, and a cold smile appeared on his face as well.

"Understood, Chief Cheng, I'll arrange it right away."

Having said that, he turned and left immediately.

Cheng Tianhao sat in the Boss Chair, a smug smile appearing on his face.

"Ye Zhentian, you don't have the right to fight me yet!"

He lifted the teacup and took a gentle sip.

"The Xingchen Plaza Project will ultimately be mine."

……

The first light of dawn appeared,

Golden sunlight poured onto the earth, draping everything in a gentle glow.

The Xingchen Square Construction Site was a scene of bustling activity.

Huge excavators swung their long arms, emitting deafening roars.

Workers wore safety helmets, sweating profusely as they busied themselves, their faces radiating hope for the future.

Murong Wan stood at the edge of the site, looking at the vibrant land before her, a surge of pride swelling in her heart.

She wore a professional suit that highlighted her graceful figure, her long jet‑black hair tied into a ponytail, appearing capable and spirited.

A breeze brushed by, a few strands of hair playfully dancing at her cheek, adding a touch of charm.

"Mr. Jiang, look over there; a new landmark will rise here."

Murong Wan turned her head and spoke to Jiangnan beside her.

Jiangnan stood there quietly, hands in his pockets, his gaze profound.

He wore a simple black T‑shirt and jeans today, yet exuded an indescribable aura.

He seemed like a reclusive master, out of place amid the surrounding clamor.

"Not bad."

Jiangnan gave a gentle nod, his voice very calm.

"The Xingchen Plaza Project is the cornerstone of the Ye Family's future development, and also the foundation of our Murong Family's cooperation with the Ye Family."

"Likewise, it's also my chance to prove myself!"

Murong Wan's gaze was steadfast,

"Therefore I must ensure the project proceeds smoothly, with no room for error."

"Mr. Jiang, thank you for being willing to help me."

"No need to be formal."

Jiangnan spoke, his voice calm.

"With me here, there will be no problem at all."

Simple words, yet they revealed great confidence and assurance.

Murong Wan looked at Jiangnan, and an inexplicable sense of safety rose in her heart.

This man is always like that—quiet and unassuming, yet he provides the firmest support.

It seemed that as long as he was present, even a sky falling wouldn't be feared.

At that moment, a clamor of noise came from the construction site entrance, shattering the tranquil atmosphere.

"All of you, stop!"

"Who gave you permission to start work here?"

A group of small thugs wearing floral shirts, with various tattoos on their arms, stormed into the site with a fierce aura.

They brandished sticks, iron chains and other weapons, each looking like a ferocious demon, clearly not the kind to be trifled with.

The workers were startled by the sudden turn of events, halting their tasks and staring in terror at the uninvited guests.

"Who are you?"

"What are you doing here?"

A man who looked like a foreman mustered courage and stepped forward to ask.

"Who I am? You don't even have the right to know!"

The leading yellow‑haired thug kicked the foreman's stomach, sending him sprawling to the ground.

"Brothers, smash for me!"

"Ravage this place into pieces for me!"

At the yellow‑haired thug's command, the other thugs immediately brandished their weapons, beginning a frenzied rampage of smashing the site's equipment and materials.

"Stop!"

"What you're doing is illegal!"

Seeing this, Murong Wan shouted angrily, hurried forward, and tried to intervene.

"Yo, there's a little girl too."

The yellow‑haired thug's eyes lit up upon seeing Murong Wan, revealing a lewd grin.

"She's actually pretty decent-looking."

"Little girl, play with us brothers, and we'll leave this place alone."

"How about it?"

Saying that, the yellow‑haired thug reached out to touch Murong Wan's face.

Murong Wan's complexion changed; she quickly stepped back, evading the thug's filthy hand.

"Shameless!"

She scolded, raising her phone high.

"If you don't leave now, I'll call the police!"

"Call the police?"

The yellow‑haired thug seemed to hear a joke and burst into loud laughter.

"Go ahead, call them, if you dare!"

"I'll see which is faster: the police arriving or my fist!"

"Brothers, keep smashing!"

"Grab this little girl, take her back and have some fun!"

The thugs grew even more reckless, smashing while closing in on Murong Wan.

Murong Wan's face turned pale, her heart filled with terror.

She was just a weak woman; she could not possibly match these ferocious thugs.

At that hair‑trigger moment, a figure stepped in front of her.

It was Jiangnan.

He still wore that carefree, nonchalant expression, as if nothing before him concerned him.

"Get lost."

Jiangnan spoke, his voice icy and devoid of any feeling.

"What did you say?"

The yellow‑haired thug froze, seemingly unable to believe his ears.

"I told you to get lost, didn't you hear?"

Jiangnan repeated it, his tone tinged with impatience.

"Damn, looking for death!"

The yellow‑haired thug, fully enraged, swung the Steel Pipe in his hand toward Jiangnan's head.

If that blow landed solidly, he wouldn't die but would be gravely injured.
