Chapter 88: A Sheep in the Tiger's Mouth
At the same time, inside the Public Security Bureau, Yang sat upright with a serious demeanor.
Standing before him was a dashing female Security Officer, Chen Ying.
"Little Chen, Jiang's medal has arrived; you deliver it yourself."
Yang handed a delicate Brocade Box to Chen Ying, a hint of respect on his face.
"Yes, Yang!"
Chen Ying took the box, replied crisply, excitement flashing in her beautiful eyes.
Being able to deliver the medal to Jiang personally was a great honor for Chen Ying.
After all, Jiang was a great benefactor of their bureau, repeatedly helping them crack major cases, a mysterious and powerful figure.
Chen Ying carefully secured the Brocade Box, turned, and prepared to leave.
"Wait a moment."
Yang suddenly called out to Chen Ying.
"Yang, any other instructions?"
Chen Ying glanced back, asking with puzzlement.
"Remember, when you see Jiang, be respectful and show no hint of negligence."
Yang solemnly reminded her, his tone serious.
"Understood!"
Chen Ying nodded firmly, committing Yang's words to memory.
She stepped out of the bureau, took a deep breath to calm her excitement, then dialed Jiangnan's number.
"Hello, Mr. Jiang, this is Chen Ying."
On the other end, Jiangnan's steady voice said, "Hmm, what's up?"
"Mr. Jiang, your medal has arrived; I'm bringing it over. Where are you now?"
Chen Ying spoke respectfully, with a hint of anticipation.
"I'm at the Xingchen Square Construction Site."
Jiangnan replied succinctly.
"Alright, I'm coming right away!"
Chen Ying hung up, a radiant smile blooming on her face like a vivid flower.
She immediately drove straight to the Xingchen Square Construction Site.
Through the car window, the scenery rushed backward, but Chen Ying's heart had already flown to Jiangnan's side.
The image of Jiangnan floated in her mind, making her want to approach yet feel reverent.
About half an hour later, she arrived at the Xingchen Square Construction Site with her team.
Chen Ying got out and at a glance saw Jiangnan standing among the crowd.
He still wore that carefree demeanor, as if everything around him were irrelevant.
Chen Ying hurried over, a sweet smile on her face.
"Mr. Jiang, your medal!"
She held the Brocade Box with both hands, presenting it before Jiangnan, eyes full of admiration.
Jiangnan took the box, opened it gently; a Shining Medal lay quietly inside, engraved with the four characters "Righteous Bravery."
"Thank you."
Jiangnan closed the box, his tone even and unruffled.
"Mr. Jiang, you're too modest; you deserve this."
Chen Ying quickly waved her hand, startled by the favor.
At that moment, a clamor from afar broke the silence.
"Move aside, all of you move aside!"
A fierce crowd stormed the site, led by none other than Dao Ge.
He was towering, his face covered in flesh, a thick Gold Chain around his neck, clearly not a good guy.
Behind him trailed a group of henchmen, each brandishing a club, their aura fierce like wolves ready to pounce.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?"
The site Security Officer saw this, rushed forward to block, but Dao Ge kicked him to the ground.
"Get out of the way, I'm here, you have no business questioning!"
Dao Ge swaggered arrogantly, paying no heed to the officer.
He and his men barreled straight toward Jiangnan and Chen Ying.
"Kid, I heard you're good at fighting?"
Dao Ge stepped before Jiangnan, scanning him up and down, a sneer curling his mouth.
"So it's you, Barehanded Steel Pipe Break?"
He pointed at Jiangnan, tone contemptuous, as if looking at a lamb awaiting slaughter.
Jiangnan gave no reply, simply stared at Dao Ge, his eyes as still as an ancient well.
"What? Scared?"
Seeing Jiangnan silent, Dao Ge assumed he was frightened, growing even more smug.
"Let me tell you, meeting me today is your bad luck!"
He drew a Dagger from his waist, twirling it; the sharp blade glinted coldly in the sun.
"I've, Dao Ge, roamed these parts for years and have never feared anyone!"
He pointed the Dagger at Jiangnan, his gaze fierce.
"If you know how to behave, just obediently kneel, kowtow and admit your mistake; otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless under the blade!"
As soon as Dao Ge finished speaking, the henchmen behind him immediately brandished sticks, shouting loudly to boost Dao Ge's morale.
"Kneel! Kneel quickly!"
"Otherwise I'll kill you!"
"Did you hear that? Kneel down right now!"
Amid the clamor, a wiry‑eyed henchman with a thief's brow leaned close to Dao Ge's ear, his voice trembling.
"Brother, that kid over there is standing with someone who looks like a Security Officer…"
He pointed at Chen Ying, his voice growing softer, his eyes filled with terror.
Dao Ge heard this, paused slightly, and turned his gaze toward Chen Ying.
She was in a uniform, looking dashing, a pair of Handcuffs hanging at her waist, staring coldly at him.
Dao Ge's mind churned with turbulent fear; wasn't he just a lamb entering a tiger's mouth?
Accustomed to wielding power, he never expected to run into such a tough nut here.
Cold sweat ran down Dao Ge's forehead, soaking his collar.
He forced a calm demeanor, his eyes flickering as he contemplated an escape plan.
"Ahem…"
Dao Ge cleared his throat, a smile spreading across his face, his attitude making a complete 180‑degree turn.
"It's a misunderstanding, all of it!"
He flatteredly looked at Jiangnan, bowing his head and nodding.
"Brother, today I'm here to… to…"
Dao Ge stammered, unable to find a suitable excuse for a moment.
"Here to apply for a job?"
Jiangnan spoke, his voice calm yet tinged with a hint of mockery.
"Yes, yes, exactly, I'm here to apply!"
Dao Ge, as if granted a pardon, hurriedly continued along Jiangnan's line.
"A few of us brothers are honest, hard‑working migrant workers; we heard this place was hiring, so we came to take a look."
He pointed at the henchmen behind him, signaling them to cooperate.
Though the henchmen didn't understand, they nodded and went along.
"Yeah, yeah, we're all here looking for work."
"Brother said the conditions here are good, so we followed."
"We are good citizens, absolutely no intention of causing trouble."
For a moment, the construction site was filled with a lively atmosphere.
Chen Ying watched Dao Ge's clumsy performance, sneering inwardly.
These people, just a moment ago ferocious and terrifying, now, however, like a sleight of hand, have swapped to a different demeanor.
"It's utterly ridiculous!"
She stepped forward, scolding sharply.
"Do you think this place is a stage? Come when you like, leave when you like?"
Dao Ge's complexion stiffened, his smile frozen on his face.
"Sir… officer, we truly came looking for work; if you don't believe us, you can check our ID Card."
He pulled out his ID Card, handing it to Chen Ying with both hands, his gaze carrying a hint of pleading.
Chen Ying took the ID Card, examining it carefully.
"Zhang Dadao, unemployed drifter, repeatedly detained for inciting trouble."
She read out Dao Ge's information, her tone icy.
"You still dare call yourself a good citizen?"
Dao Ge's face turned deathly pale, his body trembling slightly.
He hadn't expected Chen Ying to be so meticulous, exposing his entire past.
"Officer, I… I…"
He tried to defend himself, but couldn't find words.
"Take them all away!"
Chen Ying, too lazy to listen to his nonsense, gave the order directly.
The Security Officer under her command immediately stepped forward, surrounding Dao Ge and his group.
"Don't move!"
"Be honest!"
"Handcuff them all!"
The Security Officers moved swiftly, showing no mercy.
