Chapter 107: Perhaps, Without You, She Would Not Have Died
"President Chu, the doctor is here."
Assistant Wu knocked on the door.
The room opened, and Cheng Wan walked out.
Her face was flushed, her eyes still held a watery sheen, her lips were red and swollen, her fingers were clenched into her palms, and her long hair was slightly disheveled.
Assistant Wu hurriedly lowered his head, not daring to look again.
Chu Li, who followed closely behind, had a much softer expression; he reached out, grabbed the woman in front of him, and half-forced her onto the sofa.
Fire seemed to be spitting from the eyes of Madam Chu and Cheng Mingzhu.
Although no sound had come from the room in the last half hour, they knew very well what must have happened.
And Cheng Wan's appearance confirmed their suspicions.
Cheng Mingzhu was even more resentful; Cheng Wan was already pregnant, yet she was still seducing Chu Li.
How could she be so shameless?
The doctor gave Chu Li an injection, left some medicine, and packed up his things to leave in a hurry.
Cheng Wan stood up to leave, but was pulled back by Chu Li.
Fire seemed to be spitting from Cheng Mingzhu's eyes.
Just then, Assistant Wu said in a low voice, "President Cheng and the Old Master have arrived."
A handsome, tall man and an old man leaning on a cane walked in; both looked around the room, their expressions blank.
Cheng Mingzhu immediately cried out in grievance, "Brother."
She had truly lost so much face today.
Cheng Han frowned, took off his suit jacket, and draped it over her shoulders to cover her exposed skin.
Only then did Cheng Mingzhu dare to stand up from behind the sofa, pointing at Cheng Wan to complain: "Brother, she bullied me."
"Enough." Cheng Han glared sternly at his sister. "Haven't you caused enough trouble?"
He already knew what had happened here.
He had a headache just thinking about it.
Cheng Mingzhu already felt humiliated and aggrieved, and now that her brother had finally arrived, he didn't give her any face at all and accused her of causing trouble.
The young lady could not stand this slight.
"Cheng Han, are you blaming me?"
Cheng Han grabbed her hand. "Come back with me first."
Chu Li stared at Cheng Mingzhu with a chilling gaze. "For the sake of Cheng Han, I will let you go this time. If there is a next time, it won't matter who pleads for you."
"I won't." Cheng Mingzhu hated Cheng Wan to death and stared at her fixedly. "Cheng Wan, what right do you have to stay by A Li's side? You aren't worthy at all."
Cheng Wan looked at her coldly, her calm gaze as if she were looking at a joke.
"Cheng Mingzhu, he wouldn't look at you even if you stripped naked. Are you proud of that?"
She was in a fit of anger, finding no one pleasing to the eye, and she did not hold back.
If Cheng Han hadn't been holding her back, Cheng Mingzhu would have already lunged forward to hit her.
Her eyes were red, and she cursed viciously and meanly: "Cheng Wan, how noble can an unwanted orphan like you be? You only know A Li because you stole Qin Xingwan's identity. What are you?"
"If I were Qin Xingwan and knew my identity was being used by you to seduce men, I would definitely regret saving an ungrateful wretch like you; I should have just let you die on the side of the road."
"She was truly blind. Perhaps, if it weren't for you, she wouldn't have died."
Cheng Wan's pupils constricted, and her face turned pale inch by inch.
Cheng Mingzhu's words had struck the most painful spot in her heart.
Back then, Qin Xingwan had died in the fire only because she had tried to save her.
"Enough." Cheng Han was furious, his eyes stained with frost. "Cheng Mingzhu, this is not your place to speak. Shut your mouth."
Cheng Mingzhu refused: "I..."
"Cheng Mingzhu, have I given you too much leeway?" Chu Li stared at Cheng Mingzhu with a dark, angry expression.
His gaze was malevolent and predatory.
Cheng Mingzhu was terrified, yet she still did not feel she was in the wrong.
"A Li, she is a murderer. How can you be with her? You..."
Cheng Han could not listen any longer; he pulled his foolish sister hard. "Enough, Cheng Mingzhu."
"I..."
"Cheng Mingzhu." Cheng Han glared at her with a warning.
Cheng Mingzhu shut her mouth, filled with resentment.
Cheng Han apologized to Cheng Wan: "Miss Cheng, I apologize to you on behalf of Mingzhu. I hope you can forgive her lack of restraint this time."
Cheng Wan's fingers trembled, and she could not speak.
Over these years, although Qin Xingwan had chosen to do it voluntarily, she still felt guilty.
She often woke up from nightmares.
Chu Li gripped her cold palm tightly and sneered gloomily: "Can an apology make up for the mistake she made?"
Cheng Han was silent for a few seconds, then said he was sorry. "Regarding the project, the Cheng Family will concede two percentage points."
These two points were to pay for Cheng Mingzhu's lack of restraint.
Chu Li said indifferently: "Ten years. Every year, the Cheng Family will give two points of the project's profits to Wanwan."
Only with compensation could it be called an apology.
"Why?" Cheng Mingzhu refused.
"Fine." Cheng Han agreed.
He pulled Cheng Mingzhu away.
After stepping outside, Cheng Mingzhu shook off his hand and angrily questioned him: "Cheng Han, what right do you have to agree? What qualification does Cheng Wan have to get two percent of the profits for nothing?"
Cheng Han finally could not bear it any longer.
He said coldly: "Chu Li doesn't like you at all, so stop pestering him; come back with me tomorrow."
With reddened eyes, Cheng Mingzhu took out her phone, "I'm going to tell Dad that you're helping an outsider bully me."
Cheng Han completely lost his patience, pulled open the car door, and sat inside, "Suit yourself."
Inside the villa, Madam Chu felt somewhat uneasy.
Cheng Mingzhu was of the same generation as Chu Li, so Chu Li could handle her, but Madam Chu was an elder, so Old Master Chu had to step in.
Old Master Chu did not give Madam Chu any face, reprimanding her for being blinded by greed to actually do something like drugging her own son.
Madam Chu argued: "I did it for his own good; who told him to like a woman like that."
She would not even say Cheng Wan's name, which showed how much she loathed her.
Qin Xingwan was one thing before; although she disliked her, at least she was innocent, but what was Cheng Wan? An orphan who ran out of an orphanage, without even parents, and even stole someone else's identity.
How could she be Chu Li's wife?
Did the Chu family not want any face anymore?
Old Master Chu's expression was grim, "The one she is carrying in her belly is your grandson."
"What grandson? I don't acknowledge him," Madam Chu said contemptuously.
She was stating her attitude today: she would absolutely not accept a daughter-in-law like Cheng Wan.
Old Master Chu stood up leaning on his cane and said coldly: "As long as she is willing, she is a member of the Chu family. If you don't acknowledge her, at most the child won't call you grandmother in the future, but he remains a descendant of my Chu family."
The implication was that Madam Chu's opinion was unimportant.
The status acknowledged by Old Master Chu was more reliable than anything else.
Cheng Wan lowered her eyes, her heart as still as stagnant water.
She did not have the slightest bit of affection for the Chu family.
Madam Chu was about to speak, but Chu Li had already opened his mouth, his voice indifferent: "You should move back to the Old Residence to live."
Madam Chu was incredulous, "A Li."
"Mom, I make my own decisions about my life," Chu Li gripped Cheng Wan's hand, "Worry less and enjoy your life more."
Madam Chu suddenly broke down, took two steps back, and muttered: "Even you despise me, don't you..."
"Mom."
"Enough, you are just like your father, an ungrateful wretch," Madam Chu cursed fiercely, feeling incomparably disappointed in her son.
Clearly, she had arranged the best for him, but her son had grown up and stopped listening.
Chu Li was silent for a long while before looking at Madam Chu with a blank expression, "You need to calm down."
He pulled Cheng Wan away.
