Chapter 110: With a background like Cheng Wan's, how could you take a fancy to her?

~8 min read 1,462 words

Qin Jianguo only knew how to scheme for interpersonal relationships and was not particularly skilled at being a businessman.

As for Qin Shen, he had been raised delicately since childhood; he was more capable than Qin Jianguo, but having never experienced great storms, he could not shoulder the burden.

The matter between Cheng Wan and Qin Xingwan had caused such a stir that the negative public opinion was engulfing the company, making it difficult to survive.

Qin Shen had no choice but to beg Chu Li for help, hoping Chu Li could step in.

Chu Li looked deeply at the haggard Qin Shen, "You should have thought of this when you first came back."

Qin Shen gritted his teeth, "Father is muddled in the head now; what else can I do if I don't manage things?"

Chu Li only said one thing: "If you hesitate when you should act, you will surely suffer the consequences."

His meaning was very clear: he would not help.

Qin Shen knew that the friendship between them had long since changed, but hearing his refusal without the slightest hesitation still made him feel terrible.

He looked toward the hospital room, "Is it because of her?"

"No."

"I have always wanted to know, with a background like Cheng Wan's, how could you take a fancy to her?" Qin Shen did not understand.

The Chu Family was a wealthy and prestigious household; after Cheng Wan's identity was exposed, many people had their eyes on the position of Mrs. Chu, but Chu Li's heart was entirely on Cheng Wan.

Chu Li narrowed his eyes.

How did he take a fancy to her?

He did not know either; perhaps he just wanted to be devoted to one person from beginning to end.

He did not answer.

Chu Li entered the hospital room; Cheng Wan had already finished washing up.

She knew Qin Shen had been there, "Did he ask you for help?"

Chu Li leaned close to her and bent down to kiss her, "Yes, I refused."

As he spoke, he stared into her eyes, wanting to see if she would be happy because of this.

Cheng Wan had no particular emotion.

After washing up, she ate breakfast.

Cheng Wan went to see Wen Ping'an.

She met Qin Jianguo in the corridor outside the hospital room.

He was hunched over, looking much older, and there were even a few strands of white hair at his temples.

"Wanwan," he called out weakly, the hatred from before nowhere to be found in his eyes.

Cheng Wan stood where she was, looking at him coldly, "Don't call me that, it's disgusting."

Wanwan was Qin Grandmother's cherished thought.

How could Qin Jianguo be worthy of calling those two words?

Qin Jianguo rubbed his hands together, his demeanor humble and ingratiating.

"I know you haven't been happy in the Qin Family these past few years, but the family never skimped on your food or clothing; you must at least help the Qin Family for her sake."

"Besides, if it weren't for Xingwan's identity, you wouldn't even know Chu Li."

"All of this was brought to you by the Qin Family; you cannot be ungrateful."

As he spoke, he shed tears, "If Xingwan knew you were standing by and watching, how hurt she would be."

"Shut up." Cheng Wan's eyes were filled with frost, "All these years, you never cared for her and let her be bullied; you are not worthy of mentioning her."

"But she is my daughter; that is a fact that cannot be changed."

"Yes, she is your daughter, but she is already dead." Cheng Wan said with sarcasm and hatred.

"But you..."

"I took on her identity to take care of Qin Nainai."

Mentioning Qin Nainai made Cheng Wan's heart ache even more.

Qin Nainai was their shared grandmother; since Qin Xingwan was gone, she naturally had to take good care of her.

If she hadn't taken on Qin Xingwan's identity, she wouldn't even have been able to enter the gates of the Qin Family.

She had no choice.

Qin Jianguo lowered his head, pleading, "It's all my fault, I admit it; I will go to Bali Town to beg her for forgiveness, but this time, you must help me."

"I won't help." Cheng Wan refused coldly.

"Xingwan stopped recognizing parents like you a long time ago; whatever happens to the Qin Family has nothing to do with her, and it has nothing to do with me."

She stopped looking at Qin Jianguo and left directly.

Qin Jianguo was filled with regret.

Of course, what he regretted was not that he had given birth to her without raising her, but that he hadn't established a good relationship with Cheng Wan beforehand.

And Qin Nainai.

Mentioning this, he felt resentment toward Qin Yunshu in his heart.

She clearly knew how important Qin Nainai was, yet she insisted on provoking her.

Could it be that he really had to watch the business he had spent his whole life building go bankrupt?

Cheng Wan was just a heartless ingrate.

Two more days passed, and Cheng Wan, as usual, woke up at the Yiyuan and then went to see Wen Ping'an.

Wen Ping'an was in good spirits today and had specifically come downstairs to meet her.

"Ping'an." Cheng Wan waved and walked over quickly.

Wen Ping'an ran over quickly, but not knowing what he stepped on, he tumbled down the stairs.

"Ping'an." Cheng Wan screamed as she rushed forward and picked up his small body.

Ping'an's face was pale, and his eyes were tightly shut.

The doctor arrived quickly and sent Wen Ping'an into the emergency room.

Cheng Wan's eyes were red and swollen, and her whole body was trembling.

"Wanwan." Chu Li rushed over and pulled her into his arms.

"Chu Li, Ping'an fell, he is covered in blood." Cheng Wan clutched his clothes as if grabbing a life-saving straw, "Chu Li, please save him."

She was sobbing uncontrollably.

Grandma had just passed away; she could not lose Ping'an.

Chu Li soothed her near-collapse, "He hasn't come out yet because the stem cells took well; he is undergoing a transplant surgery, don't worry."

Cheng Wan's eyes were misty with tears, "Surgery?"

She had been too immersed in self-reproach and grief to even know that Wen Ping'an was undergoing a transplant surgery.

"Yes."

This affirmation did not soothe Cheng Wan.

She was even more worried.

Chu Li's body swayed, and he steadied himself by bracing his hand against the wall.

Assistant Wu hurriedly said, "President Chu, please take a good rest for a while. Those ovulation induction needles were so long, and you are allergic to the medication; if you don't rest, your body won't be able to hold up."

Cheng Wan realized what was happening and immediately helped Chu Li to sit down.

Looking at his noticeably pale complexion, she felt a sense of guilt in her heart.

That he was willing to save Ping'an was already an act of immense kindness.

She shouldn't have been too harsh on him.

Thinking this, her heart softened a little.

She did not notice the meaningful look Chu Li gave Assistant Wu.

Assistant Wu coughed evasively, "President Chu's health has not been good lately, but to save a life, he insisted on the ovulation induction. Miss Cheng, please take good care of him."

Cheng Wan felt even more guilty.

She knew, but she had always felt awkward about it in her heart.

Wen Lvzhong arrived, and the few adults waited outside together.

A few hours later, the doctor came out to announce that the surgery was a success.

Wen Ping'an still needed to stay in a sterile room for a few days to observe his condition.

Regardless of anything else, the first hurdle had been cleared.

Cheng Wan wept with joy.

Chu Li stood not far away, the sound of Assistant Wu's report in his ears.

"Our people found a few glass marbles by the steps."

"We checked the surveillance footage; a child dropped them. We traced it all the way, and it led to... Young Master Qin."

Chu Li's expression turned grim.

Qin Shen?

Assistant Wu asked, "Should we ask Young Master Qin?"

"No need, just call the police."

Chu Li ordered with a blank expression.

If the glass marbles were related to Qin Shen, then Qin Shen's target was not Wen Ping'an, but Cheng Wan.

Cheng Wan was a pregnant woman; if she had fallen, one could imagine how tragic the consequences would have been.

Qin Shen had never let go of his hatred for Cheng Wan.

He was too impatient and wanted revenge.

Yet his capabilities were limited.

Chu Li would not allow such a ticking time bomb that could harm Cheng Wan to remain here.
