Chapter 112: She No Longer Has Any Weakness
"Ping'an falling, it has to do with him." Chu Li rubbed his brow.
He did not hide it from Cheng Wan, telling her the whole story.
Cheng Wan put down her phone, "You said he deliberately scattered the beads?"
Chu Li rubbed his brow, feeling extremely exhausted, "The police have already been notified to handle it."
Cheng Wan fell silent; that Chu Li would call the police surprised her.
In her impression, as long as Qin Yunshu cried, he could go through fire and water for her, without hesitation.
Yet, as it turns out, there are times when he can refuse her?
"Are you willing?" she asked like this.
Chu Li leaned back against the chair, sweet nothings spilling out naturally.
"For you, naturally I am willing to do anything."
Cheng Wan said indifferently: "But for the sake of Qin Yunshu, you were even willing to sacrifice me and the child."
The originally warm atmosphere instantly stagnated.
Cheng Wan looked out the window.
She was grateful to Chu Li for saving Wen Ping'an, but it was merely gratitude.
After all, his saving someone was, in essence, a transaction.
Thinking of the child in her belly, she subconsciously reached out to stroke her lower abdomen.
There, a life was being nurtured.
What awaited him was a future free from want, yet it would be devoid of love.
This child, in the end...
She was immersed in her own thoughts and did not notice the man beside her taking in every one of her expressions.
His already deep eyes held a hint of chill.
Chu Li understood Cheng Wan; even though for the first three years she wore the identity of Qin Xingwan and played the role of a fragile person, in truth, there were rebellious factors in her bones.
When she first found out she was pregnant, she wanted to abort the child, but for the sake of Wen Ping'an, she agreed to keep it.
Now Wen Ping'an had Old Madam Wen to protect him.
She... was she thinking of going back on her word?
Things seemed to be gradually slipping out of his control.
He suddenly reached out and took Cheng Wan's soft palm.
"What are you thinking about?"
Cheng Wan came back to her senses, pulled her hand back, and said softly: "Thinking about Ping'an."
She lied.
She did not want Chu Li to know that she still harbored the intention of not keeping the child.
Chu Li felt a slight bitterness in his heart; he knew she was lying, but he did not expose her.
As they neared Beicheng Villa, the Old Master called, telling them to go to the Old Residence for a meal.
Cheng Wan did not want to go; her current status was awkward, and it would not be good if she went.
Chu Li, however, did not think so; he placed his large palm on Cheng Wan's lower abdomen and said softly: "Grandfather likes this child very much."
The Chu family was still headed by Old Master Chu; his liking for this child meant that this child would have a much brighter future.
Cheng Wan's mood was complex.
If the child were to be kept, naturally, a smooth future would be best.
It was just that...
She was still hesitating.
The car drove to the Old Residence.
The death of Qin Nainai had dealt a great blow to Old Master Chu; he had grown much older, and his voice was no longer as full of vigor as before.
In the gaze he cast upon Cheng Wan, there was more or less some partiality.
Madam Chu sat on the sofa, followed by a burly maidservant, who had been sent by Old Master Chu to monitor her.
These past few days, she had been having a miserable time.
She was full of grievances.
Seeing Chu Li, she immediately stepped forward, "A Li."
Her gaze fell on Cheng Wan, but she gave her a direct eye-roll.
"A Li, Mom knows she was wrong; can you let Mom go back to live there?"
Madam Chu was truly about to go crazy; wherever she went, a human surveillance device followed her, it was practically like being in prison.
She regretted it.
She regretted not planning things well back then, letting Cheng Wan ruin the situation.
Otherwise, by now her son would have already married Cheng Mingzhu.
It was all Cheng Wan's fault; that little matter should have just been kept between them, but she had to go and call Old Master Chu.
Chu Li saw through Madam Chu's thoughts at a glance, devoid of emotion, "You apologize to her."
Madam Chu almost screamed, "You..."
She lowered her voice and said bitterly: "I am your mother, and you are telling me to apologize to her? You must be crazy."
This was simply an insult.
How could she possibly agree?
Cheng Wan had already found a seat and sat down.
Chu Li walked to Cheng Wan's side and put his arm around her shoulders, his protective intent fully evident.
Madam Chu was so angry she was about to faint.
At the dining table, in front of everyone, Old Master Chu announced that he would transfer five percent of the shares in his hands to the child in Cheng Wan's womb.
"This is A Li's first child, the eldest grandchild of the Chu family." Old Master Chu looked at Cheng Wan with loving eyes.
This was something he had prepared for Qin Nainai, but since Qin Nainai had suddenly passed away, he decided to give this gift to Cheng Wan and her child.
Madam Chu was the first to object, "No."
She did not understand what was so good about Cheng Wan; it was one thing that Chu Li refused to let go, but Old Master Chu was actually standing up for her and giving away shares.
One had to know that she herself only had two percent of the shares now.
Were they trying to elevate Cheng Wan above her head?
Old Master Chu merely glanced at Madam Chu indifferently, "You have no right to object."
Cheng Wan had originally wanted to say she didn't want them, but seeing Madam Chu's expression, she suddenly didn't want to refuse.
Madam Chu gripped her chopsticks tightly, "She has already divorced A Li, so she has even less right to take the shares."
Old Master Chu frowned, "They can just remarry."
Madam Chu gasped, "Back then, you were the one who insisted they divorce."
Old Master Chu felt very embarrassed by the questioning.
If he had known it would lead to today's situation, he would never have let Chu Li divorce, no matter what.
Madam Chu's eyes turned red, "You want to let Cheng Wan climb over my head? Don't even think about it."
"She is carrying A Li's child in her womb; based on this alone, she deserves these shares." Old Master Chu could not bear to look at his daughter-in-law's jealous appearance.
Madam Chu was even angrier.
"Who knows whose child is in her womb? Besides, as long as A Li is willing, there are plenty of children. Is she so precious that she's different from everyone else?"
"Mom." Chu Li's expression was not good.
His mother was truly speaking without thinking.
Madam Chu sat back down, her chest heaving.
Cheng Wan put down her bowl and chopsticks; without the slightest excitement at receiving the shares, she said calmly, "I don't want them."
She did not want the shares.
As for the child in her womb, she was still considering whether to keep it.
Even if she did keep it, it would have nothing to do with the Chu family.
Chu Li's eyes darkened; he knew she was thinking about drawing a clear line.
But he was unwilling.
"It's a gift from Grandpa to the child; accept it," he urged.
He took the opportunity to put a piece of pork rib into Cheng Wan's bowl, "Eat more."
Cheng Wan did not touch the pork rib; she only looked at Chu Li, finding it exceptionally ironic.
Did he think that with the shares, she would keep this child?
Chu Li's gaze was somewhat heavy; she did not want to be tainted by the Chu family in the slightest, all so she could leave cleanly.
Madam Chu was even more displeased; she pointed at Cheng Wan and scolded, "This is not a place for you to be picky."
She was unwilling for Cheng Wan to get five percent of the shares, but she was even less happy that Cheng Wan refused them.
It made it seem as if she didn't even look down on these five percent of shares.
What a thing, really.
Cheng Wan was speechless.
Madam Chu thought for a moment and said to Old Master Chu, "Also, Yun Shu is your granddaughter too; you must treat everyone equally. Whatever Cheng Wan has, she must have too."
Being disgusting—as if anyone couldn't do that.
Sure enough, Old Master Chu's expression turned ugly.
"How can she compare to Wanwan?"
"Wanwan is carrying my Chu family's child in her womb; what use is she?"
Old Master Chu did not like Qin Yunshu.
After all, it was Qin Yunshu who provoked Qin Nainai, which led to Qin Nainai's passing.
He felt uncomfortable in his heart and scolded Chu Li, "It's all your fault for insisting on foisting her onto me back then."
It was disgusting.
