Chapter 114: Her Ruthless Heart

~8 min read 1,435 words

Madam Chu was furious, "Who are you calling a disgrace?"

Chu Bolin loathed his wife's constant bickering; she wasn't gentle in the slightest.

"Zhou Lin, A Ling is pregnant. Let's divorce; I want to give A Ling a proper, legitimate status."

The woman called A Ling looked coy, "Bolin, I don't care about such things."

Madam Chu nearly bit through her own teeth.

"Is being a mistress a glorious profession nowadays?" Cheng Wan looked at A Ling coldly, "You dare to come out and provoke the legal wife while pregnant? Do you really think the Chu family is a pushover?"

Because of Qin Yun Shu, Cheng Wan loathed all affected, pretentious women.

At this moment, this A Ling had exactly that vibe.

She hid in Chu Bolin's arms, sobbing, "Bolin, my stomach hurts. The baby must have been frightened by them."

Chu Bolin hugged her heart-achingly, "Don't be afraid, baby, I will protect you."

He looked at Madam Chu, "Zhou Lin, I advise you to divorce quickly. You'll still get a share of the money, and it'll be easy to find someone else. Though, with your temper, I doubt any man could stand you."

That smug, condescending tone was very unpleasant.

A Ling rolled her eyes, "Exactly, no man likes a woman who smells like an old lady."

Cheng Wan sneered. She stepped forward, grabbed A Ling by the hair, and yanked her over fiercely.

If Chu Bolin hadn't shielded her, A Ling would have fallen to the ground.

"What are you doing?" A Ling screamed in pain.

Cheng Wan didn't let go. As Chu Bolin came over to shove her, she said directly, "I am carrying Chu Li's child. Do you want to try me?"

Chu Bolin immediately pulled back.

His salary still depended on his son, Chu Li.

Cheng Wan pressed A Ling's face against the wall, "Apologize."

A Ling screamed in pain, "Fine, fine, fine. I apologize."

She cried as she apologized to Madam Chu.

Chu Bolin was full of heartache, yet he dared not do anything to Cheng Wan.

He could only apologize along with A Ling, "Zhou Lin, I apologize to you. Tell Cheng Wan to let A Ling go."

Before Madam Chu could speak, Cheng Wan had already let go.

She simply couldn't stand that kind of affected woman who used men to trample on the legal wife.

She wasn't actually trying to help Madam Chu.

So, once the other party apologized, she let go immediately.

Yet, the turn of events happened at this very moment.

Madam Chu gave A Ling a fierce shove. A Ling's body hit the wall, and she clutched her stomach, screaming in agony.

Cheng Wan was stunned.

She looked at Madam Chu in disbelief.

Madam Chu looked at A Ling's painful state as if she had gone mad, "No one can affect A Li's position."

She said viciously, "No one."

A Ling's baby was gone, and Chu Bolin called the police.

Police Station.

Cheng Wan rubbed her temples; she wasn't feeling well at all.

Not far away, Madam Chu was still arguing with Chu Bolin. It was the same words over and over again.

Madam Chu refused to divorce and couldn't accept Chu Bolin's infidelity, while Chu Bolin, having a child late in life, was exceptionally furious about A Ling's miscarriage and thought Madam Chu was too vicious.

Neither of them would bow their heads first.

Cheng Wan felt exhausted listening to them.

She regretted being a busybody and getting dragged into this.

She couldn't leave even if she wanted to now.

Chu Li was already on his way; surely, with a little digging, he would know why she was at that private Yiyuan.

She felt guilty.

Just as she was lost in thought, Madam Chu suddenly called out, "A Li, you're here."

Cheng Wan looked up and met Chu Li's heavy gaze head-on.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she clenched her fingers.

Chu Li said a few words to the police and walked toward his parents.

"Are you done arguing?"

There were tears in Madam Chu's eyes, and her voice trembled, "The woman he has outside is pregnant. A Li, he promised back then that he wouldn't let those women get pregnant."

Chu Bolin slammed the table, "I'm over fifty years old. So what if I have a child? By the time he grows up, A Li will have already firmly established his footing."

When he left the Chu family, the only requirement Old Master Chu had was that he was not allowed to have illegitimate children outside.

After all, Old Master Chu had suffered a great deal because of illegitimate children.

Chu Bolin had agreed for the sake of his freedom.

"Chu Bolin, you went back on your word," Madam Chu accused.

Chu Bolin roared back, not to be outdone, "It was you, this vicious woman, who harmed my child. I will make you pay the price."

"Enough." Chu Li looked at them coldly.

He had no feelings for Chu Bolin, and his tone was far from friendly, "Assistant Wu has already settled the compensation with your woman."

Chu Bolin froze.

Chu Li looked at Madam Chu again, mostly with helplessness, "Stop making a scene, go home."

Madam Chu had suffered greatly in her marriage, which was why she had developed such a temper.

Chu Li understood, so he was willing to clean up the mess.

Madam Chu, however, refused, "Compensation? On what grounds are you giving her compensation? She seduced someone else's husband; it would be best if she were dead."

Chu Li chose not to hear it; he signed the document and walked up to Cheng Wan, "Let's go."

His tone was cold.

Cheng Wan followed in silence.

They returned to the car.

Chu Li suddenly gripped her chin, his handsome face drawing close, as if his baleful energy were erupting in layers.

"Cheng Wan, is this how you repay me, hmm?"

He had long sensed her abnormality, but he had always held onto a shred of hope in his heart.

Thinking she would not be that cruel.

Yet in the end, she was indeed ruthless enough.

Cheng Wan's face turned pale, and a pain as if her jawbone were about to be crushed radiated through her.

Tears welled in her eyes as she gripped his wrist to explain.

"I was only going for a check-up."

He could verify it.

She had not booked a surgery.

"But you never wanted him from the very beginning." Chu Li's eyes were bloodshot.

He had saved Wen Ping'an.

Yet she had gone back on her word and wanted to abort the child.

Cheng Wan stopped struggling; she met Chu Li's fury without flinching or dodging.

Her eyes gradually returned to calm.

She made no effort to hide her sarcasm.

"Give birth to the child, so you can continue to threaten me?"

Chu Li was stung by her distrustful gaze.

He let go in dejection.

"That is our child, how could I..."

"How could you not?" Cheng Wan sneered, "Grandmother, Ping'an, aren't they both examples?"

"Chu Li, from the moment you gave the Twenty-Four Solar Terms Perfume to Qin Yun Shu, you and I have had no future."

This was the truest thought in her heart.

She wanted to draw a line between them.

She wanted to leave.

Chu Li raised his palm to cover his eyes and brows.

His pain was deeply hidden within.

Under the oppressive air, no one felt well.

Until he lowered his hand, his eyes filled with coldness.

"You know me, Cheng Wan, I am a person who likes to force others to do what they don't want."

Cheng Wan pressed her lips together; things had reached this point.

He actually still refused to let go.

"You..."

Chu Li ordered the driver to drive.

He rubbed the ring on the ring finger of his left hand.

Even though they were divorced, he still wore that ring.

As for the ring on Cheng Wan's hand, its whereabouts had long been unknown.

"I said it before, a life for a life." His tone was steady, devoid of any warmth, "Give birth to the child and I will let you leave."

"Otherwise, do you think Old Madam Wen can really protect Wen Ping'an?"

"Chu Li." Cheng Wan's chest heaved violently.

She clenched her palms, her eyes bright with anger.

"He is still just a child."

Chu Li pressed his lips together and said sarcastically, "The one in your belly is also a child."

"If you don't treat him well, on what grounds do you demand that I treat Wen Ping'an well?"
