Chapter 161: Using My Own Hand to Repay Your So-Called Hatred

~8 min read 1,469 words

With Lin Qingya's situation on her mind, Cheng Wan was not in high spirits on the way back.

Chu Li's brows were furrowed, and there was no telling what he was thinking.

The car was quiet, and the light and shadows of the streetlamps occasionally swept past, illuminating the distance between them.

Close, yet far apart.

The car stopped at the main gate, and only then did Cheng Wan snap out of her thoughts; she pushed the door open and got out.

Chu Li followed behind her and suddenly spoke up, "Wanwan, I have to go on a business trip for a few days."

Cheng Wan tilted her head slightly, "Alright."

She lifted her foot and entered the house.

Chu Li stood in the autumn wind, a chill settling over his entire body.

He clearly felt that although they were together again, the distance between their hearts had already become vast.

Sighing, he returned to the master bedroom to pack his things.

In fact, every time he went on a business trip in the past, Cheng Wan would pack his things for him, not letting him worry; now, she still slept in this bedroom, but she would never again help him pack with her own hands.

Chu Li pulled his suitcase and stopped suddenly when he reached the door.

He seemed to have something to say, but in the end, he held it back.

The door closed.

Cheng Wan opened her eyes.

Her fingers loosened their grip on the tightly clenched quilt.

If Chu Li hadn't left, she really wouldn't have known what excuse to find to keep him from getting into this bed.

She slept very well by herself.

The next day, she took Qin Ping'an to see Lin Qingya.

Chu Li had rearranged for a doctor to come and treat Lin Qingya's right hand.

Cheng Wan comforted her softly, "Don't worry, the doctor will have a way."

Lin Qingya leaned against the head of the bed; she had already calmed down.

"Don't worry, Wanwan, I won't do anything foolish."

If her right hand couldn't be healed and she couldn't be a designer, she could still do other things.

After all, having survived with such difficulty, one must cherish life.

Only then did Cheng Wan heave a sigh of relief; she was truly afraid that Lin Qingya would be crushed by the injury to her right hand.

The two were chatting when Cheng Han arrived.

His complexion was uncharacteristically weary, and he was even somewhat disheveled.

When Lin Qingya saw him, the smile on her face vanished.

"What are you here for?"

Cheng Han's throat felt a bit dry, "Your hand..."

He already knew about Lin Qingya's comminuted fracture, and his first reaction was how much pain Lin Qingya must be in right now.

After all, she loved using a paintbrush to draw out her inspiration bit by bit the most.

But from now on, she would never be able to hold a pen again.

Even he himself didn't notice that guilt had sprouted in his heart.

Lin Qingya raised her right hand, "Using my future to repay your so-called hatred—is that enough?"

Her eyes were completely calm.

Cheng Han clenched his fists, "I..."

"I didn't know this would happen."

He had locked her in the Old Residence just to make her atone for her sins, but he hadn't intended to hurt her hand.

"Cheng Han, the matter has already happened; what is the point of you saying these things?" Lin Qingya did not need such feeble explanations, "It would be best if you never appear in front of me again."

Cheng Han looked somewhat discomposed, "I will give you an explanation."

He left in a hurry.

Lin Qingya closed her eyes, and in the end, they still welled up with moisture.

An explanation?

He couldn't give her one.

Cheng Han returned to the Old Residence; he summoned the housekeeper and asked about Lin Qingya's time there.

The housekeeper said, "Wasn't it your instruction to be a bit harsher toward Miss Qingya and to make her learn her lesson?"

Cheng Han frowned; he did not remember ever saying such a thing.

"I only told you all to watch her and have her copy scriptures for my parents every day."

The housekeeper hesitated, "It was Miss Mingzhu who said that since you are already married, if you were too kind to Miss Qingya, I fear the young mistress would be unhappy."

Cheng Han was silent for a few seconds, "Cheng Mingzhu has been here?"

He asked again, "What happened to Lin Qingya's hand?"

"This... I don't know."

Cheng Han raised his brows, "Uncle Zhang, do you think that since I am no longer the one in charge of the Cheng Family, my words can be directly ignored?"

"Young Master, I absolutely do not have that intention." The housekeeper was terrified.

He had watched Cheng Han grow up and watched him grow up overnight after his parents passed away; he felt nothing but heartache for him, so how could he ignore him?

"Young Master, I suspect it was the young mistress," the housekeeper said, weighing his words, "That day, the young mistress came over and asked Miss Qingya to pour tea, but the tea accidentally spilled on the young mistress's clothes. The young mistress was very angry at the time and said that Miss Qingya couldn't hold a cup steady, and that such hands might as well not exist."

He only dared to say this much; after all, he had no evidence.

Cheng Han, however, understood everything.

He had been running between domestic and foreign locations for some time, and with the wedding preparations, he had not returned here for a very long time.

He had not expected Qin Yunshu to come here.

He had expected even less that Lin Qingya would be treated so abusively here.

Seeing his poor expression, the housekeeper said in a low voice, "The young lady's room has been tidied up according to your instructions."

Cheng Han regained his focus and followed to the room upstairs.

That room used to be a nursery.

Now, under Cheng Han's direction, most of the furniture had been replaced; the small crib had become a two-meter-wide bed, and the pink curtains had been changed to a light blue color.

The housekeeper asked from behind, "Young Master, have you found the young lady?"

Cheng Han withdrew his gaze, perfectly hiding all his emotions.

He said calmly, "Not yet."

Given his current situation, he could not drag her into this.

The housekeeper looked somewhat disappointed, "Then this is..."

Cheng Han gave a bitter smile: "I was just thinking that so many years have passed, and my younger sister has grown into an adult; I should prepare an adult's room for her."

The housekeeper nodded; that was indeed true.

Cheng Han closed the door and instructed the housekeeper, "Clean it regularly; no one is allowed to enter."

"Yes."

Cheng Han returned to the Yiyuan and went to Qin Yunshu's hospital room.

Qin Yunshu's eyes lit up when she saw him, "Cheng Han, you're here."

Cheng Han walked a few steps closer and looked down at his wife.

Being stared at by him, a faint blush appeared on Qin Yunshu's face, and she knelt up halfway.

"You... why are you looking at me like that?"

The next second.

Her neck was suddenly gripped tightly by the man before her, and she fell back onto the bed, instantly finding it difficult to breathe.

"Cheng... Cheng Han."

She clawed at Cheng Han's hands, her eyes filled with not only fear but also disbelief.

How could he... how could he...

Cheng Han's gaze was cold and sharp; he truly wanted to strangle her to death.

"Brother."

Cheng Mingzhu lunged over, pulling hard on Cheng Han's arm, "What are you doing?"

Cheng Han let go, straightened his body, and stepped back two paces.

Qin Yunshu began to cough violently.

Cheng Mingzhu patted her back and angrily questioned Cheng Han, "Brother, have you gone mad? You almost strangled Yun Shu just now."

Qin Yunshu's eyes were full of tears, her voice hoarse, "Cheng Han, why would you treat me like this?"

Cheng Han sneered, "Qin Yunshu, why did you go behind my back to the Old Residence?"

Even though they were married, Cheng Han had never once thought about taking Qin Yunshu to the Old Residence.

Qin Yunshu touched her neck; her husband had almost strangled her the moment he arrived, and then questioned her about going to the Old Residence.

It was truly cold and heartless.

She braced her arms to slowly sit up and looked up at Cheng Han, "Cheng Han, you actually don't like Lin Qingya either, do you? You are still hiding someone in your heart."

Cheng Han's pupils constricted instantly, his face expressionless.
