Chapter 194: Old Madam Cheng
Outside the hospital room.
Old Madam Cheng watched that scene and finally felt at ease.
"President Chu arrived just in time," the assistant whispered. "You can rest assured now."
Old Madam Cheng shook her head; if Chu Li and Cheng Wan had a harmonious relationship, she would naturally be happy.
But now that their relationship had plummeted to freezing point, Chu Li appearing here might not be appreciated by Cheng Wan.
She signaled for the assistant to push the door open and walked in.
The Second Madam Cheng threw herself in front of the Old Madam, kneeling on the ground and crying particularly miserably, "Mom, you must stand up for me."
Old Madam Cheng did not look pleased. "Get up, what does this look like?"
The Third Madam Cheng hurried over to help her up.
The Old Madam then instructed her third son, "Huayu, take Xiao Han back to the ward."
"Alright." Cheng Huayu supported Cheng Han and left.
Old Madam Cheng looked at Chu Li again. "A Li, thank you for resolving the situation for them. When you have time, please come to the house for a meal."
Chu Li knew this was a dismissal. He took one last lingering look at Cheng Wan before leaving.
Old Madam Cheng sat on the sofa, her expression cold. "Have you made enough of a scene?"
The Second Madam Cheng gritted her teeth and plopped down onto her knees again.
She wiped her tears. "Mom, the Second one died unjustly."
"You come here wearing mourning clothes—are you trying to force my hand?" Old Madam Cheng saw through her daughter-in-law's intentions completely.
The Second Madam Cheng hurriedly said she wouldn't dare.
Old Madam Cheng then asked about the matter of Cheng Han's parents, but no matter how she asked, the Second Madam Cheng insisted she didn't know and said it was impossible for Cheng Huade to have done such a thing.
Old Madam Cheng's expression grew increasingly ugly.
Finally, she only said: "You have been married to the Second one for ten years; I will give you a sum of money, and you will leave the Cheng Family."
The Second Madam Cheng was only in her forties; as long as she was willing, she could completely remarry.
She let out a shriek, "Mom, he has just left, and you want to drive me away? In your eyes and heart, you only have the eldest's family; you have never cared about us at all."
Her words were piercing.
Old Madam Cheng closed her eyes; she was truly fed up.
"Giving you money to leave is out of respect for you being the Second one's wife. Do you really think I can't find out what you and the Second one did?"
Having lost two sons in three years, Old Madam Cheng's spirit had been worn thin, and she did not want to continue the turmoil.
Letting the second daughter-in-law leave was the last bit of dignity she was leaving for the Second one's family.
The Second Madam Cheng dared not speak, tears falling in strings.
The Third Madam Cheng was soft-hearted and whispered, "Mom, why not wait until the Second brother's body is found and the funeral is held before letting the Second sister-in-law leave?"
Old Madam Cheng sighed; her third daughter-in-law was good in every way, but she was just too soft-hearted.
"Mom, I will not leave until I see the Second one return." The Second Madam Cheng wept bitterly; she regretted being too impulsive.
The Old Madam saying she would give her money to leave clearly meant she had lost her temper.
Besides, although Cheng Huade was likely doomed, he had not been found yet.
She was actually also afraid that Cheng Han would take control of the entire Cheng Family and settle scores with her later...
Old Madam Cheng did not want to push her too hard and agreed.
The Third Madam Cheng hurriedly helped the Second Madam Cheng out.
Only then did Old Madam Cheng say to Cheng Wan, "Your second aunt, her temperament is a bit impatient; she didn't scare you, did she?"
Her tone was exceptionally gentle, fearing she might have frightened Cheng Wan.
Cheng Wan shook her head; she liked the Old Madam's decisive and firm demeanor.
But she saw the sorrow on the Old Madam.
"Grandma, you don't need to pretend to be strong in front of me; I know you are sad."
Regarding Cheng Huade's matter, although he deserved it, no matter what, he was the Old Madam's own son.
No mother could easily get over that hurdle in her heart.
The smiling face Old Madam Cheng had been forcing in front of her was enough for Cheng Wan to feel her deep, loving care.
The Old Madam's exhaustion and hidden sadness made her worry.
Old Madam Cheng's eyes turned red instantly, and she almost shed tears.
She had not expected Cheng Wan to see through it.
Cheng Wan pursed her lips and said softly, "Grandma, you can borrow your granddaughter's shoulder."
Old Madam Cheng could no longer hold back and hugged Cheng Wan, shedding tears.
"Wanwan, you are Grandma's good granddaughter."
Cheng Wan patted Grandma's shoulder gently, letting her cry.
Crying it out and letting the emotions vent was much better than keeping it bottled up inside.
After a long time, Old Madam Cheng finally stopped her tears.
"Wanwan, I've made you laugh."
Cheng Wan used a tissue to wipe the tears from the Old Madam's face. "There is nothing funny about this; it is only human nature."
Old Madam Cheng was once again moved by her thoughtfulness, taking her hand and asking her to talk about her past.
Although she had investigated it, she wanted to hear it from Cheng Wan herself.
Cheng Wan detailed everything, from growing up in the orphanage to later escaping and being adopted by Qin Nainai.
Old Madam Cheng listened with a pounding heart; if she hadn't met Grandma Qin and Wen Suxue, she didn't know where her Wanwan would be wandering.
"I remember that Qin Yun Shu is also a daughter of the Qin Family, she..."
Old Madam Cheng wanted to make some compensation.
Cheng Wan did not stand on ceremony and recounted everything Qin Yun Shu had done without leaving a single detail out.
Old Madam Cheng frowned as she listened; this Qin Yun Shu was truly a bit too vicious.
"Your brother too, how could he marry such a person."
Cheng Wan gave a bitter smile, "It must have been for my sake."
Some things are actually clear once you think about them.
Old Madam Cheng said immediately, "He is the older brother, it is only right."
Cheng Wan did not know whether to laugh or cry.
Now that she no longer had any leverage held by Chu Li, she hoped Cheng Han could get a divorce.
She told the old madam about this matter.
The old madam nodded, "I know, but it is best to wait until Cheng Han has taken over the company and things have stabilized before discussing the divorce."
After all, the company is currently at a critical juncture.
Cheng Han's focus should be on the company.
Cheng Wan knew the importance and urgency of the matter.
Old Madam Cheng brought up the matter of moving back to the Old Residence again; she hoped Cheng Wan could return to live with the Cheng Family.
Cheng Wan originally wanted to refuse; after all, she was not yet very familiar with the Cheng Family.
But seeing the old madam's eager eyes, she did not have the heart to refuse and agreed.
Old Madam Cheng was exceptionally happy.
As the two were chatting, an assistant came in and said, "Old Madam, someone is here to see the young lady."
"Please, bring them in."
The assistant let the people in, and as it turned out, it was Chu Yue and Chu Fangfei who had come.
Chu Yue's smile was exceptionally kind as she walked in quickly, "Wanwan, I heard you weren't feeling well; are you feeling better?"
As she spoke, she looked toward the old madam, "Auntie."
The Cheng Family and the Chu Family were on good terms, and Chu Yue had practically been watched by Old Madam Chu as she grew up, so the old madam had a good impression of her.
"Chu Yue, you've returned to Yuncheng?"
Chu Yue sighed deeply, "The one in my family is in poor health, and thinking that the medical facilities here are a bit better, I brought him over, hoping that I can... can alleviate his suffering."
She wore a look of deep sorrow.
Old Madam Cheng hurriedly comforted her.
Chu Fangfei walked to Cheng Wan's side, looked at her wrist still wrapped in gauze, and asked, "How are you?"
Cheng Wan's expression was indifferent, "I'm already better."
Chu Fangfei looked at her for a while, her gaze deep.
Cheng Wan felt uncomfortable being watched by her, "Is something the matter?"
