Chapter 208: Brother, Don't Cry
The drinking party ended.
Cheng Wan was the last to leave.
In the hallway, Chu Li leaned against the wall waiting for her.
"That President Li is not a good person," he reminded her.
Cheng Wan stood for a moment, thinking that he had come to help her, so she nodded, "I know."
It was her first time dining with that person, too; with such character, there would be no interactions in the future.
The two of them entered the elevator together.
Chu Li spoke as if making casual conversation, "Did you encounter problems with the raw materials? Where is Cheng Han?"
In these matters, as a brother, one must always help resolve them.
Cheng Wan looked at their reflections on the elevator door, "He has things to attend to."
Matters always had to be handled by oneself; Cheng Han had been so busy with project affairs during this period that he hadn't been home for several days.
Cheng Wan did not want to add to his troubles.
Chu Li did not speak again.
The elevator opened, and Assistant Wu was waiting to the side with a group of people, all of them exceptionally respectful.
"If you truly have no suitable options in your hands, you can look for Assistant Wu; just consider it compensation from me," Chu Li said, leaving this behind before striding away.
Cheng Wan did not take this to heart, nor would she go looking for Assistant Wu.
Sitting in the car on the way back, she flipped through the qualifications of two other companies, planning to find time to arrange a meeting.
Chu Fangfei said in a low voice, "I asked around; Chu Li came over to dine with business partners. Someone at the table mentioned President Li, and then I don't know how it got to you, so he came over."
"Mm."
"It's clear that he still cares about you."
Otherwise, he wouldn't have known Cheng Wan was in the next private room and left so many people behind to rush over and back her up.
One must know, if Chu Li hadn't come over, who knows what disgusting things that President Li might have said.
Cheng Wan did not speak; she had Xiao Yu arrange a meeting with one of the companies.
Xiao Yu called back afterward, "The other party sent over all their materials and is willing to cooperate with us."
Her tone was filled with excitement.
Cheng Wan was somewhat surprised; in truth, she had no confidence in her heart. After all, that was a large raw material factory that also handled large orders. For a small company just starting out like hers, the demand was not high, and others were generally unwilling to take them on.
But Cheng Wan did not want to work with small factories.
This time, she had also just held an attitude of trying it out when she let Xiao Yu arrange the meeting.
"Sister Cheng, are you listening?" Xiao Yu said excitedly, "They even sent the contract over; as long as there are no problems, we can sign at any time."
Cheng Wan came back to her senses, "Look at the contract carefully; if there are no problems, you can sign it."
"Got it."
Chu Fangfei asked, "Was it Chu Li?"
Naturally, it was.
Cheng Wan looked out the window; it must have been that she and Chu Li coming out of the elevator together made those people misunderstand their relationship.
That was why the other party had proactively delivered the contract to her.
This was a good thing for the company.
"Let's go back," she instructed the driver.
Downstairs, a black car was parked under a streetlamp; a man was leaning against the car, head bowed, not knowing what he was thinking about.
"Chu Cheng?"
Chu Cheng heard the voice, a smile quickly gathering on his face as he stood up straight, "You're back."
Under the light, his expression looked exceptionally gentle.
Cheng Wan chuckled, "Why did you come?"
Chu Cheng took out a toy from the car, "I came to see An'an, but the nanny said An'an is not feeling well and shouldn't see people casually."
He asked with concern, "Is it serious?"
"It's nothing, she just got back and is having a little trouble adjusting to the environment."
She had no intention of inviting him up.
Chu Cheng understood her meaning and did not bring it up, only handing the gift to Cheng Wan, "Since An'an is not feeling well, I won't disturb you. Please give the gift to her for me; I'll come see her again when she is better."
He was very polite.
Cheng Wan took it and thanked him.
Chu Cheng got in the car to leave, then remembered something and turned to look at Cheng Wan.
"Are you interested in cooperating with me?"
Cheng Wan pretended not to know, "Cooperating?"
Chu Cheng walked two steps closer and said softly, "I am currently working at the Chu Group, in charge of the entire Perfume Division. You also know that my perfume-making skills are not as good as yours; I want to cooperate with you to achieve results in this area together."
His attitude was very sincere.
Cheng Wan remained calm, "I remember that Chu Fangfei is in charge of this?"
Chu Cheng did not yet know that Chu Fangfei was with Cheng Wan.
"Fangfei is my younger sister. She got married and wants to look after her family, so she handed all the work over to me to be responsible for, so she can focus on being a good wife and mother at home."
Cheng Wan was silent for a few seconds; she thought, no wonder Chu Fangfei was so dejected.
"I'll consider it," Cheng Wan did not explicitly refuse, "You also know that I have some unpleasantness with Chu Li, and the way I left wasn't very graceful, so cooperating would truly be a bit difficult."
Chu Cheng nodded, "I know, but as long as you agree, I am willing to act as a bridge for you."
He paused, then said quite naturally, "You were brought up by Wen Suxue, and now you are also a disciple of Elder Fang; you are the most qualified to cooperate with the Chu Group."
Cheng Wan thanked him for his kindness.
But she still refused.
Chu Cheng did not insist either; after saying goodbye, he drove away.
Cheng Wan's gaze turned slightly cold; she and Chu Cheng could be considered friends, but if a friendship was mixed with interests and was no longer pure, she would rather not have this friend.
Carrying the gifts home, An'an rushed over with her short little legs, "Mommy."
Cheng Wan pulled her into her arms and kissed her, "Good girl, An'an."
An'an pouted; she had a lively personality, and staying at home for a whole day was truly boring.
"I miss Brother."
Cheng Wan stroked her little head.
She had originally intended to bring Qin Ping'an over, but the Third Uncle and his wife were unwilling; furthermore, Qin Ping'an was attending a kindergarten nearby, and if he moved over, the commute to school would be a bit far, so he remained at the Old Residence.
"Let's go see Brother." Seeing that it was still early, Cheng Wan decided to take An'an to the Old Residence.
But before they could leave, Cheng Huayu called, her tone stern.
"Come to the Yiyuan, something happened to Yuanyuan."
Cheng Wan took An'an and rushed to the hospital ward.
Outside the ward, Cheng Han's expression was exceptionally cold, and Cheng Huayu was saying something to him; not far away, the Third Madam was speaking to Qin Ping'an, who was covered in tears.
"Ping'an." Cheng Wan hurried over, "What happened?"
The Third Madam pulled Cheng Wan to the side and whispered, "When Ping'an was holding Yuanyuan, they fell down the stairs; Ping'an is fine, but Yuanyuan tumbled down."
"How could this happen?"
"Now Qin Yunshu is saying that Ping'an did it on purpose."
Cheng Wan immediately retorted, "Impossible, Ping'an is not that kind of child."
Qin Ping'an had been sensible since he was small and was exceptionally patient with children younger than himself, so how could he have intentionally thrown Yuanyuan down the stairs?
"Cheng Han saw it with his own eyes."
Cheng Wan frowned and looked at Qin Ping'an.
Qin Ping'an's eyes were full of tears as he sobbed.
Cheng Wan withdrew her gaze; she believed in Qin Ping'an.
There was a misunderstanding in this matter.
She walked toward Qin Ping'an.
An'an reached out her little hand, trying hard to stand on tiptoe, wanting to help her brother wipe away his tears.
"Brother, don't cry, An'an will blow it better."
