Chapter 212: Perfume Notes
A rumbling sound rose from the bridgehead.
The headlights of the large vehicle were exceptionally blinding, making one feel dizzy.
The vehicle's speed was extremely fast; by the time Cheng Wan reacted, the vehicle was almost right before her eyes.
She had no time to react, only feeling herself being pushed by someone, and then she fell down.
"Splash."
The icy river water rushed into her nasal cavity and ears, competing to get in.
A massive sense of suffocation rushed toward her.
"Chu Li." She surfaced, breathing heavily, calling out Chu Li's name.
"I'm here."
Not far away, Chu Li was coughing and choking; he swam over, "Are you alright?"
"I'm okay," Cheng Wan asked.
"I'm fine."
Chu Li supported her body and swam toward the riverbank.
Assistant Wu had already arrived with people and hurriedly pulled the two of them out of the water.
"President Chu, your leg..." Assistant Wu called out in a panic.
Chu Li sat on the ground with one leg bent, and the water dripping down was stained red.
Cheng Wan's heart skipped a beat; she walked over quickly and only then noticed that Chu Li's complexion was exceptionally pale.
There was blood everywhere beneath him.
She squatted down, her fingers trembling as she lifted Chu Li's pant leg, discovering that his entire leg was covered in blood.
"Go to the Yiyuan, immediately."
On the way to the Yiyuan, Chu Li's body, leaning against the seat back, tilted and rested against Cheng Wan.
"It hurts a little," he said in a weak voice.
In the end, almost the entire weight of his body was on Cheng Wan.
Cheng Wan clenched her palms and reached out to hold him, her emotions agitated, "Chu Li, don't sleep."
"I'm not sleeping, I'm just in pain," Chu Li said vaguely, before his voice completely faded away.
Cheng Wan's mind was a mess; only after Chu Li entered the operating room did she ask Assistant Wu for a phone to contact Cheng Han.
"Have you found them?" she asked with a trembling voice.
Qin Yun Shu suddenly changed her mind, and the children were in great danger.
"Not yet," Cheng Han's voice was somewhat heavy, "but Qin Yun Shu is dead."
"What?" Cheng Wan bit her lip hard.
Cheng Han looked at the woman on the ground who was already cold, "Died from a fall."
"Then An'an and Ping'an..."
What were those two children to do?
"Wanwan, I am investigating; I will tell you as soon as there is a result."
"I'm coming to find you."
"Alright."
After getting the address, Cheng Wan returned the phone to Assistant Wu.
Assistant Wu blocked her path, "Miss Cheng, President Chu is still in surgery, can you please wait..."
"There are doctors here; me staying here is useless." Cheng Wan knew the words she said were cold-blooded, but the children's safety was too important.
She could not stay here.
"Going there is useless too," Assistant Wu blocked her firmly, "President Cheng's people, President Chu's people, and the police are all searching."
"I know."
"If you go, you'll just be running around in chaos; why can't you stay here and wait for President Chu's surgery?"
Assistant Wu had some opinions about Cheng Wan wanting to leave; President Chu had suffered such a severe injury for her, yet she wanted to abandon President Chu and go find the children.
What use could she be if she went?
"Assistant Wu."
"Miss Cheng, President Chu has always kept you in his heart; these past three years, he frequently flew abroad to see you, and even when you gave birth, it was President Chu who personally arranged the doctors and nurses."
"I say these things because I hope you can think of him; at this moment, he needs you."
Cheng Wan's eyes were cold, devoid of emotion.
"But my children need me more," she said coldly, "I am equally useless here."
Assistant Wu didn't know what to say for a moment; Cheng Wan was truly too calm.
She didn't care about Chu Li at all.
Assistant Wu silently stepped aside.
Cheng Wan hailed a car at the entrance of the Yiyuan and left.
Inside the operating room, the doctor came out and asked: "Where are the family members? The patient has a leg fracture and needs a signature for the surgery."
Assistant Wu opened his mouth but didn't know what to say; the person who should have signed had already left.
No, she couldn't sign either.
They were divorced.
Assistant Wu could only call Madam Chu and let Madam Chu communicate with the doctor.
Seeing that she was about to meet up with Cheng Han, Cheng Wan breathed a sigh of relief.
Just then, a video suddenly arrived on her phone.
In the video, Qin Ping'an was holding Cheng An'an, huddled in a corner, his face full of terror.
Cheng Wan sat bolt upright.
The other party called.
"Ms. Cheng, if you want your child's life, come to this address."
"I believe Ms. Cheng won't try any tricks this time, right?" The other party sent over an address.
Cheng Wan had the driver head to that address.
It was a hotel.
Soon, following the person's instructions, she took a room card and entered the room.
The other party seemed to know her whereabouts; the moment she closed the door, they called again.
"If you want to see the child, bring out Wen Suxue's Perfume Notes."
She gritted her teeth and said, "I don't have the Perfume Notes."
After waiting two seconds, the other party said, "I know Ms. Cheng has an amazing memory; surely you know all the formulas in the Perfume Notes. I'll give you three days to write them all out from memory."
He paused, then added, "Of course, the sooner you write them out, the sooner you can see your child."
The other party hung up the phone.
Cheng Wan looked at the paper and pen prepared on the table.
She had indeed committed those perfume formulas to memory, so if one had to call it Perfume Notes, then she was a living Perfume Notes.
The other party knew everything.
At this moment, she had no other choice.
She sat at the table, picked up the pen, and began to write.
Wen Suxue's Perfume Notes recorded many perfume formulas she had concocted herself, among which were five formulas that were Wen Suxue's proudest creations.
Cheng Wan had never used those five formulas.
She had only been studying them slowly, hoping to gain some inspiration from them to create her own perfumes.
What the other party wanted, presumably, were these five formulas.
Cheng Wan wrote very quickly; after about four hours, she had written out all the formulas from memory.
Following the other party's requirements, she placed the written formulas at the door.
Then came a quiet wait.
Two hours later, the other party called.
"Ms. Cheng, is the child's life not important to you?"
Cheng Wan dug her nails into her palms, forcing herself to stay calm, "I have already written down everything I know."
"There is one more formula you didn't write." The other party's tone was extremely cold, "Ms. Cheng, playing tricks on me is useless."
Cheng Wan was silent.
Seeing that she didn't speak, the other party's tone held a hint of triumph, "Cheng Wan, as far as I know, your talent is higher than Qin Xingwan's. When you were learning perfumery under Wen Suxue, you often understood things at a single hint. The apprentice Wen Suxue valued most was you."
"It's just that you didn't want to steal the spotlight from Qin Xingwan, so you hid your skills. Wen Suxue knew this, which is why she gave the Perfume Notes to you, didn't she?"
"Cheng Wan, you really are good at hiding." The other party was exceptionally smug.
There was an arrogance as if everything were under their control.
Cheng Wan closed her eyes; she had roughly guessed the other party's identity.
Even if it wasn't that person, it was related to that person.
"I had forgotten that formula, but I remembered it later and have already written it down and left it at the door. If you don't believe me, you can send someone to check."
The other party was silent for a few seconds, then hung up the phone.
