Chapter 225: Selfishness
Cheng Wan looked at the car not far away, "Chu Cheng, you and I both have things to busy ourselves with, don't we?"
Chu Cheng observed her expression; whenever she said this, he would wonder if she knew something.
But if she really knew, she wouldn't be this calm.
He wanted to say more.
Cheng Wan had already left.
A bodyguard opened the car door and invited her to get in.
Chu Cheng stood where he was, his mood not very good.
Cheng Wan was truly too vigilant.
He had almost no chance to walk into her heart.
Was he really going to give up like this?
Chu Cheng clenched his palms; he was not reconciled.
In the car.
As soon as the car moved, Cheng Wan's palm was gripped by someone.
Chu Li had taken off both his mask and sunglasses; his expression was calm, but his voice was somewhat deep.
"He came to find you again?"
How was Chu Cheng like a tag-along; wherever Cheng Wan was, he was there too.
Cheng Wan tugged at her palm, but Chu Li refused to let go.
He was like a jealous husband, insisting on getting to the bottom of things.
"He came on his own." Cheng Wan frowned, not very happy.
Chu Li furrowed his brows and turned to ask about the Old Master's matter, "What did he say?"
Mentioning this, a bit of anger flared in Cheng Wan's heart, and she looked at Chu Li coldly.
"Don't you already know?"
Chu Li looked stunned, "What should I know?"
"The reason Grandfather did that wasn't because he couldn't bear to part with Chu Bolin; he was just testing me to see if I was sincere enough toward you."
Speaking of this, Cheng Wan was practically gritting her teeth.
The Old Master knew everything, yet he put on a show of being heartbroken.
He did that merely to test her feelings for Chu Li.
So, she had been schemed against once again.
She still remembered in the study, the Old Master had changed from his previous decadent appearance and smiled triumphantly, "I know that in your heart, I am a selfish person. Since I am such a selfish person, do you think I would let the Chu Group, which I worked so hard to build, be ruined in their hands?"
He was an egoist, so he wouldn't just hand his things over to anyone.
Chu Bolin and Chu Yue, the siblings, were still not enough for the Old Master.
Chu Li fell silent.
"I didn't know." He explained.
He truly didn't know, because apart from Assistant Wu, no one knew about his faked death.
However, the Old Master had dominated the business world for a lifetime, had seen countless people, and was full of schemes and tricks; presumably, he had long since seen through these little tactics of his.
"Grandfather wants us to reconcile." Chu Li's heart softened.
He used force to pull Cheng Wan into his embrace, "I am very happy, Wanwan, that you have always stood by my side."
He had always thought she didn't love him, so after An'an returned to the country, he didn't even dare to see the child for fear of making Cheng Wan angry.
The fact was, she still had him in her heart.
Cheng Wan struggled a few times but couldn't break free; the corners of her eyes turned red, glistening with moisture.
"Do you all think I'm easy to bully, right?"
"No." Chu Li looked at her tears, his heart aching so much he couldn't breathe.
How could he ever bear to bully her.
"I never thought about hiding anything from you, so that day I told you everything, as for Grandfather..."
Chu Li gave a bitter smile.
He really didn't know the Old Master had such a move up his sleeve.
He had even thought the Old Master was truly going to shield Chu Bolin.
"President Chu." The driver suddenly spoke, "There is a car following us."
Chu Li immediately turned his head to look at the rearview mirror.
There were many cars on the road at this time.
The driver continued, "That red car has been following us ever since we left the Old Residence."
He had initially thought it was just going the same way, but it had been ten or twenty minutes, and that car was still firmly behind them, maintaining the same speed.
There was definitely a problem.
The driver's expression changed, "It has accelerated."
Almost as an instinctive judgment, the driver also increased speed.
The two cars, one in front and one behind, soon shook off the flow of traffic.
"President Chu?"
"Pull over." Chu Li contacted Assistant Wu and immediately told the driver to stop.
If they stayed in the car, the danger would be greater.
Chu Li held Cheng Wan's hand firmly and turned to look at her somewhat pale face, "Don't be afraid."
Cheng Wan knew how dangerous it was at this moment, so she obediently listened.
As soon as the car pulled over to the side, Chu Li immediately pulled Cheng Wan out of the car and entered a nearby shopping mall.
The mall was crowded, and the two of them took the elevator up.
However, the other side had quite a few people.
Very quickly, they were blocked on the fourth floor.
Chu Li shielded Cheng Wan behind him; he was wearing sunglasses and a mask, so no one recognized him.
"Brother, the one we are looking for is the woman behind you," the other side said, still sounding somewhat polite. "We won't make things difficult for you; you can leave."
Cheng Wan frowned, and she quickly figured it out.
It was either Chu Bolin or Chu Yue.
They were getting desperate.
Chu Li did not move, only whispering instructions to Cheng Wan, "Go downstairs, Assistant Wu will pick you up."
Cheng Wan turned around without hesitation.
Someone wanted to chase after her, but Chu Li took action directly.
Cheng Wan walked to the elevator area and glanced back.
Chu Li was blocking the way by himself, not letting anyone pass; he was facing five or six people alone, not losing ground, but he had also taken several punches and kicks.
The elevator arrived.
Cheng Wan did not hesitate and entered the elevator.
The people being blocked were truly angry.
"Get him."
The five or six people all struck with ruthless force.
Chu Li could not hold on much longer, so he simply retreated outward.
But the other side wanted to take their anger out on him, so how could they let him leave?
Cheng Wan was lucky; as soon as she exited the elevator, she ran into Assistant Wu.
She pointed toward the fourth floor almost immediately, "Go save him."
Assistant Wu immediately sent people up.
Cheng Wan followed, and what she saw was Chu Li hunched over, gasping for air.
Although his hat and mask were still on, there were bruises on the part of his forehead that was exposed.
Cheng Wan opened her mouth, feeling terribly distressed inside.
He had been beaten like this to protect her.
With red-rimmed eyes, she walked over to support him, "How are you?"
"I'm fine." Chu Li slowly straightened his body, and he raised his finger to brush the corner of Cheng Wan's eye, "I really didn't expect you to come back."
Cheng Wan held back her tears, her tone not very good.
"I'm not the kind of person who is ungrateful."
Staying there at that time would have made her a burden; it was better to leave quickly and seek help.
"Let's go." Chu Li held her hand and stood up straight.
They returned to the car.
Chu Li took off his mask and sunglasses, revealing a face full of bruises.
Cheng Wan's eyes turned even redder, and her hands were trembling slightly.
Chu Li acted as if nothing was wrong, "I just need to rest."
Cheng Wan pulled out a tissue and gently pressed it against his wounds.
"If you can't beat them, just run; they are here for me, not specifically to beat you."
Chu Li shook his head, "How could I possibly leave you behind?"
Besides, he was her personal bodyguard.
Even though those people said that, how could a bodyguard leave and let his employer get taken away?
Cheng Wan was helpless, "It was just to cover your identity; did you take it seriously?"
He was quite dutiful.
Chu Li smiled helplessly, "That is because it is you."
