Chapter 240: Old Madam Cheng's Arrangements

~8 min read 1,440 words

Old Madam Cheng was resting with her eyes closed on a lounge chair in the small Garden, and upon hearing footsteps, she slowly opened her eyes and looked at her grandson.

"Why are you back so early?"

Cheng Han sat down and poured himself a cup of tea, "Grandmother, I saw Lin Qingya."

Old Madam Cheng was stunned, "Isn't she..."

"She is still alive, but she has lost her memories." Cheng Han recounted the matter and then stated his request.

"She grew up in the Chu Family back then, and it was because of me that she fell into the water and was injured; I would like to ask Grandmother to personally go and bring her home."

Old Madam Cheng naturally agreed.

She also felt a measure of guilt toward that child, Lin Qingya.

Now that the Cheng Family was peaceful and the family was flourishing, she could not let her continue to drift outside.

Old Madam Cheng called for the Third Uncle and his wife, asking them to accompany her.

She had originally wanted to call Cheng Wan, but Cheng Han said Cheng Wan was busy with Chu Li's affairs, so the Old Madam dismissed that thought.

They arrived at the hotel.

Yu Yue came down personally to welcome them.

"Grandmother Cheng," he said respectfully.

Old Madam Cheng looked him over and nodded with satisfaction, "So you are the one who saved Qingya."

The older generation of the Cheng Family and the Yu Family had some friendship, but later the Yu Family went to another city to develop, so the younger generation basically did not know each other.

Yu Yue glanced at Cheng Han, who was following behind the Old Madam, and realized what was going on.

A faint trace of mockery appeared in his expression.

Lacking the ability himself, he had to let the family's ancestor step in.

He really was as useless as the investigation had suggested.

Old Madam Cheng stated her purpose directly, "I would like to see Qingya."

She knew Lin Qingya had amnesia, so she said she wanted to see her, rather than take her away.

Yu Yue pondered for a moment before saying, "She was startled today and is already asleep; perhaps you should return first..."

"No rush, I will wait for her."

The Old Madam very much wanted to see that child with her own eyes again; her parents had sacrificed themselves to save her son, and later, she had avoided Yuncheng from afar, which had caused that child to suffer grievances.

Now, she should properly make amends.

Yu Yue found it difficult to refuse and could only host the Old Madam upstairs.

Cheng Han had been observing Yu Yue; he did not know much about the Yu Family, but the man before him was graceful and quite handsome.

Given Lin Qingya's personality, this was the type she liked.

After sitting down and drinking tea, Old Madam Cheng asked Yu Yue how he had met Lin Qingya.

Recalling the past, Yu Yue felt a sense of wonder at fate.

"Back then, I was also being hunted and fell into the water; later, she and I were washed up in the same place. We supported each other and escaped together; she helped me a lot."

Cheng Han sensed something was wrong, "So she hadn't lost her memory at that time?"

Old Madam Cheng frowned and glared at Cheng Han, "Shut up."

Cheng Han could only shut up.

Yu Yue nodded, "That's right, she hadn't lost her memory at that time."

"So you were the one who hurt her?" Cheng Han questioned.

Yu Yue shook his head, "When I met her, she was distraught, as if she had been hit hard by something. She said she had no home and nowhere to go, so we traveled together."

It was precisely because of this that Chu Li and the others had never found any trace of Lin Qingya.

"Later, in order to save me, she hit her head on a rock."

Yu Yue was grateful for that kindness, so even though he was barely able to save himself at the time, he did not abandon Lin Qingya; however, by the time they reached the Yiyuan, Lin Qingya's injury had been delayed for too long, and she ultimately suffered damage.

Old Madam Cheng sighed softly, "Poor child."

Yu Yue said bluntly, "I married Qingya not only because she is my savior, but also because of her personality; she is the most perfect wife in my eyes."

Such a description was enough to show Yu Yue's deep affection.

Cheng Han, however, could not agree.

"Your gratitude is for her saving your life, so you can treat her well for now, but in ten, twenty, or thirty years, can you tolerate your wife having the intelligence of only a child?"

"When you attend those business banquets in the future and others laugh at you behind your back, will you still be able to maintain this mindset and feel that she is your most perfect wife?"

Cheng Han was not belittling Lin Qingya, but stating a fact.

Few normal people could withstand the test of time on their feelings, let alone when Lin Qingya was not normal.

Old Madam Cheng patted Cheng Han's arm, telling him to calm down.

"Yu Yue, you have feelings for Qingya, and Qingya is willing to be with you; I will not stop you, but your family is not an ordinary one after all, and for Qingya to follow you like this, she is bound to suffer some grievances."

Yu Yue was silent; the situation the Old Madam described existed, but he was doing his utmost to protect her.

"Please rest assured, I will not let her suffer any grievances." This was Yu Yue's promise.

Old Madam Cheng shook her head, "That is not what I meant; I meant for the Cheng Family to appear so that Qingya can marry you in a grand and glorious manner."

Cheng Han and Yu Yue were both stunned.

Cheng Han wanted to object, but when he opened his mouth, he didn't know how to say it.

Yu Yue, on the other hand, was grateful, "You truly care for her."

"And regarding what you said about her amnesia, the doctors in Yuncheng have good medical skills; since you are in Yuncheng, take her to see them," Old Madam Cheng advised. "If she is cured, let her make her own choice; if she cannot be cured, we can only say we have done our best and leave no regrets."

She had considered everything thoroughly and properly.

Yu Yue was moved.

He naturally hoped that Lin Qingya could return to normal.

"Thank you, Grandma Cheng."

Old Madam Cheng had Cheng Han go make the arrangements.

After Lin Qingya woke up, she was coaxed by Yu Yue to come out and see Old Madam Cheng.

She hid behind Yu Yue, her pair of eyes exceptionally ignorant and innocent.

"Grandma?" she called out tentatively.

Old Madam Cheng hurriedly answered, kindly pulling her to sit down beside her.

She only said that she was her relative and asked if she was willing to go home.

Lin Qingya looked at Yu Yue; she only knew Yu Yue, so she let Yu Yue make all the decisions.

Yu Yue nodded.

Lin Qingya then timidly agreed.

Old Madam Cheng slid a bracelet off her wrist and put it on Lin Qingya's arm; Lin Qingya's fearful emotions were immediately soothed.

She touched the bracelet on her wrist, finding it exceptionally interesting.

She played by herself with great delight.

Such an innocent personality is truly enviable.

It could also be seen that Yu Yue had not let her suffer any grievances.

"Grandma," Yu Yue said in a low voice, "if Cheng Han does anything to Xiaoya, I will not be polite."

He was giving Old Madam Cheng a heads-up.

After all, Cheng Han had previously been prepared to take action and snatch her away.

Old Madam Cheng nodded, "I will persuade him."

Because of the bracelet, Lin Qingya's distance from the old madam was reduced; she answered whatever the old madam asked obediently, being very well-behaved.

Yu Yue told her to go wash up and eat, and she went immediately.

Old Madam Cheng stood up to take her leave and thanked Yu Yue once again.

She thanked him for saving Lin Qingya.

Yu Yue said calmly, "You don't need to thank me; Xiaoya and I help each other. Without her help, I wouldn't have been able to survive, and if she hadn't met me at that time, she might have been unable to let go of some things."
