Chapter 33: Deciding to Return to the Hometown with Nainai

~8 min read 1,476 words

Chu Li personally delivered a nutritious breakfast to Qin Nainai.

When Chu Li wanted to talk to her, Qin Xingwan continued to ignore him.

Qin Nainai said she wanted to eat porridge from a shop in the south of the city, sending Qin Xingwan away.

"Nainai," Chu Li took the initiative to apologize, "it is my fault for not taking good care of Xingwan."

He had not slept all night; whenever he closed his eyes, he saw her look of utter despair.

Qin Nainai only asked: "President Chu, you are a man; you should know the principle that if you do not cut when you should, you will suffer from the chaos."

"You refuse to divorce Wanwan, yet you protect Yun Shu in everything; by doing this, you not only destroy the marital relationship between you and Wanwan, but also make the sisters even more at odds."

These truths were not actually things Qin Nainai should have to say.

But she still wanted to consider things for her granddaughter.

Chu Li lowered his head in a sincere display of admitting his fault, though his tone held more or less some doubt.

"Nainai, why exactly does Xingwan dislike Yun Shu?"

They are sisters; they should be on good terms.

Qin Nainai sighed.

She recalled those past events and felt it necessary to let Chu Li know.

"Wanwan and Qin Shen are twins; as soon as they were born, they were dumped on me and the old man. When they were three, the old man passed away. They took Qin Shen away, and because she was pregnant with another, they left Wanwan behind."

"They never mentioned taking Wanwan back, and they rarely came to see her. When Wanwan was little, she was always mocked by classmates for being a child nobody wanted."

"When she was twelve, she secretly took money and ran to Yuncheng..."

Qin Nainai said with a choked voice: "When I arrived, I saw her standing by the side of the road, staring at her parents and brother inside the house as they celebrated the birthday of that sister she had never met."

At that moment, Qin Xingwan truly accepted the fact that she had been abandoned.

After that, she never mentioned returning to the Qin Family again.

Chu Li could almost imagine the scene: a twelve-year-old girl standing in a rainy night, while inside the warm, bright window, there was the family affection she craved so deeply.

Qin Nainai sighed in a low voice, "And your marriage, it was because I fainted, and her parents used me to force her to agree."

Chu Li was shocked, his heart surging with emotion.

He had always thought Qin Xingwan agreed to the marriage willingly.

"A Li, I will presume upon my status as an elder to ask you: please divorce Wanwan."

Knowing her granddaughter had suffered, this was the only thing Qin Nainai asked for.

If Qin Xingwan liked Chu Li, she would have tried her hardest to take Qin Yunshu back to the countryside.

But she knew that Qin Xingwan wanted to end this marriage.

Chu Li pressed his lips together, dark colors churning in his eyes.

"Yun Shu now has you as her backing and the support of the Qin Family, so she can do whatever she wants; therefore, you have no need to keep dragging Wanwan along and refusing to divorce."

She knew about the words from that day.

That was why she firmly urged Chu Li to divorce.

"For the sake of her having been your wife for three years and having lost a child for you, divorce her cleanly."

When Chu Li found Qin Xingwan, she was sitting on a bench downstairs at the Yiyuan, a smile on her lips as she watched a couple playing with their child not far away.

Chu Li felt bitterness in his heart.

His mind was filled with Qin Nainai's words urging him to divorce... for the sake of having lost a child...

But he had already lost a child; he did not want to lose his wife as well.

How was he supposed to make amends?

As he thought, he remembered the studio on Guangming Street.

A glimmer of confidence suddenly rose in his heart.

"Xingwan." He called her name in a low voice, "Why are you here?"

Qin Xingwan calmly looked up at him: "What did Nainai say to you?"

Chu Li sat down beside her, watching the warm, playful family of three with her.

"Nainai hopes we can be together well."

"You lied." Qin Xingwan exposed his lie.

Nainai would not urge them not to divorce after knowing those things.

Chu Li was silent.

He did not know why he had lied.

He only felt that if he said it out loud, he and Qin Xingwan would truly be over.

"I will be staying at the Yiyuan to keep Nainai company during this time, so I won't be going back." Qin Xingwan stood up and looked down at Chu Li.

Her heart had long since returned to calm.

"I will hire a caregiver." Chu Li did not want the two of them to be separated.

Qin Xingwan raised her phone, "If you don't want the news of Qin Yunshu running away from the wedding to be exposed, then don't even think about stopping me."

She had been prepared to clarify things the moment she got her phone, but if the news went out, the Qin Family would be in an uproar again.

Thinking of Nainai's health, she gave up.

She could suffer grievances, but Nainai could not be stimulated.

Chu Li gripped his wife's wrist, his habitually overbearing attitude softening for once.

"Xingwan, whether you believe it or not, I am not divorcing, and it is not because of Yun Shu."

He sincerely and truly valued her as his wife.

"Chu Li, you don't like me." Qin Xingwan stated the fact, "A marriage without affection cannot last long; we have already reached this point, there is no need to continue."

She pulled her hand back and left without the slightest hesitation.

Yet, no matter how cold she appeared, her eyes still reddened secretly when she turned away.

Returning to the hospital room, Qin Nainai had already finished her breakfast.

At noon, after the attending physician came to check, it was confirmed that Qin Nainai had no other issues and could be discharged.

She wanted to take Qin Nainai back, but Qin Nainai called Qin Jianguo over instead.

"No need to go back; once discharged, we are going straight back to Bali Town. He is my son, so I should make use of him when I need to."

Qin Nainai called Qin Jianguo over, and as soon as he arrived, she immediately ordered him to handle the discharge procedures and mentioned the matter of returning to Bali Town.

Qin Jianguo refused; if Qin Nainai went back now, the house in their hometown could not be sold.

He tried to persuade her a few times, but Qin Nainai would not agree, so he asked Qin Xingwan to persuade her grandmother.

Qin Xingwan said indifferently, "This is a decision made by Grandmother and me together."

"Nonsense." Qin Jianguo disagreed, "Yun Shu is your younger sister, and she is currently working at the Chu Group; how can you let her go to the countryside?"

He was not concerned about his own mother, but worried that his younger daughter would suffer.

"I will be the one returning to the old home." How could Qin Xingwan not see through his selfish motives?

She felt it was very dull, so she simply laid it out clearly.

Qin Jianguo was very surprised; a flash of doubt crossed his eyes, as he did not believe Qin Xingwan would be this sensible.

Qin Nainai was angry just looking at him and waved her hand, telling Qin Jianguo to pack her things and bring them over.

Seeing less of such a son was a blessing.

Qin Jianguo had no choice but to bring up the matter of selling the house.

Qin Nainai nearly fainted from anger.

"That is the old house of the Qin Family passed down through generations; how dare you?"

Not to mention how much the house was worth, the memories it carried alone were exceptionally precious.

That dog of a man, Qin Jianguo.

"Mom, I was just thinking that since you had already come over, you wouldn't be going back."

Who would want to go back to live a life of hardship...

"I do not agree; no one is allowed to sell the house." Qin Nainai slapped her thigh, warning her son.

"But I have already sold it."

Qin Jianguo had been striving in Yuncheng for many years; what he wanted was to get ahead and enjoy wealth and glory.

As for Bali Town, he had never once thought of returning.
