Chapter 36: She Is Not a Stray Dog Shelter

~8 min read 1,495 words

Qin Nainai seemed not to notice the tension between the young men, smiling as she greeted them to sit down.

Qin Xingwan came out with bowls and chopsticks, sensing that the atmosphere was off.

She looked left and right, yet could not spot anything amiss with Chu Li or Fang Yiwen.

It was very strange.

Chu Li placed a piece of pork rib into Qin Xingwan's bowl, "Eat more."

His tone was that of an ordinary husband.

Qin Xingwan did not touch that piece of rib.

Fang Yiwen placed a shrimp into Qin Xingwan's bowl, "After we finish eating, I'll have to trouble you to accompany me for another walk."

Qin Xingwan agreed with a "sure" and ate the shrimp.

Chu Li's face turned cold instantly; anyone could see he was displeased, but no one cared.

Chu Li took his phone and went outside for two minutes.

When he returned, Fang Yiwen's phone rang.

He answered it, his expression gradually becoming serious, and then his gaze fell upon Chu Li, carrying a chill.

Qin Xingwan sensed something was wrong and asked him what happened.

Fang Yiwen set down his chopsticks and said hurriedly, "Something came up at the company; I have to go back."

Qin Xingwan stood up to see him off; she thought of how Chu Li had gone out with his phone and had a suspicion in her heart.

Once outside, she asked, "Was it Chu Li?"

Fang Yiwen sighed, "It doesn't matter. I was planning to head back in these next two days anyway, but I still have to trouble you to keep an eye out for the person I'm looking for."

Besides looking for inspiration, Fang Yiwen was also here to look for someone.

He was looking for a woman with a red birthmark on her face.

But apart from this feature, he refused to disclose any other information.

Qin Xingwan promised she would try her best to help inquire.

Fang Yiwen went back to pack his things and left very quickly.

Qin Xingwan stood for a moment before turning to go back, not paying attention to what was behind her, and bumped straight into a man's hard chest.

The next second, her waist was fiercely restrained, and she was forced to press against the man.

"Chu Li."

Qin Xingwan was furious from embarrassment.

Chu Li lowered his head to get close to her, his voice slightly cold: "Are you that reluctant to see him go?"

Fang Yiwen had already left, yet she was still standing there, unable to tear herself away.

Anyone who didn't know better would think she was Fang Yiwen's wife.

Qin Xingwan thought of how Fang Yiwen's departure was Chu Li's doing, and she gave him an even colder look.

"Fang Yiwen is here to look for someone; why are you causing him trouble?"

Chu Li curled his lips in mockery, "Looking for someone? He's looking for you, isn't he."

Qin Xingwan couldn't be bothered to waste words with him and struggled to break free from his embrace.

Half a minute later, Chu Li dragged her by the wrist to a dark and secluded spot.

She was pressed by him against the cold wall, her wrists pinned above her head.

Qin Xingwan froze; they had been husband and wife for three years, she knew exactly what the surging desire in his eyes meant.

Moreover, his body was pressed tightly against hers, and she was all too aware of the changes in his body.

He was simply...

Qin Xingwan's face flushed red, and her eyes reddened with anger.

"Chu Li, if you're in heat, go find another woman."

She didn't dare to be too loud, afraid of startling Grandma.

Her secret, hoarse voice sounded like a little kitten.

Clearly the weaker party, scared to death, yet still fiercely provoking him.

Chu Li lowered his head and kissed that unpleasant mouth.

Perhaps if he devoured her whole, she might be more obedient.

It was just a pity they were outside; he had to have some reservations.

But he still had to get some benefits.

Qin Xingwan did not cooperate, and it took quite a bit of effort for Chu Li to get his wish.

A light taste, just enough to soothe some of his longing.

When he let her go, Chu Li was not surprised to receive a slap.

Her eyes were red-rimmed and filled with hatred; she pulled her clothes straight with trembling fingers, then turned and walked away.

Only, her legs were weak and uncooperative.

Chu Li reached out to hold her.

Qin Xingwan slapped his hand away and told him to get lost, her face expressionless.

Chu Li pressed his temple, where a vein was throbbing, "Xingwan, I came to tell you that I do not agree to a divorce."

Qin Xingwan raised her hand to slap him again without hesitation, but this time it was blocked by Chu Li.

He gripped her wrist tightly, pulled her fiercely into his arms, and coaxed her in a low, hoarse voice.

"I have established a studio in your name; no matter how you want to develop, I will help you."

Qin Xingwan didn't care for it.

She did not want to have any further intersection with him.

"Chu Li, you know what I care about, but for her sake, you are always playing dumb."

"How can a person want both one thing and the other?"

"Is this fair to me?"

She had done nothing, yet she was dragged into the circle of him and Qin Yun Shu.

Three years of tasting all the bitterness and sweetness of life.

By what right did he say he would not agree to a divorce?

Tears slid down without restraint; she bit her lip and turned her face away.

Chu Li felt very panicked; he pulled Qin Xingwan into his embrace, "I'm sorry."

Qin Xingwan was held in his arms, and it was a long time before she calmed her emotions.

In a low voice, she pleaded with him: "Chu Li, let me go."

She repeated it again: "Let me go."

Chu Li kissed away her tears, his chest feeling stifled and uncomfortable, "Xingwan, give me one more chance."

"No..."

"Just this one chance; if I still make you sad, I will agree to the divorce."

He did not know why, but even though he had no romantic love for Qin Xingwan, he was still reluctant to divorce her.

Qin Xingwan pulled away from his embrace, stepped back a few paces, and curled her lips in mockery: "Chu Li, how am I supposed to believe you?"

"You are no different from the Qin Family; you are all loyal dogs to Qin Yun Shu."

Chu Li pinched her cheek, his tone steady and gentle: "I help her because she once saved my life."

"Besides, Cheng Han is coming back."

Cheng Han was the man Qin Yun Shu had run away with three years ago to escape their marriage.

He was also once a good friend of Chu Li.

Qin Xingwan lowered her eyes; so it was because the man Qin Yun Shu loved was coming back, and he, the devoted second male lead, had no place left, so he remembered her, his soon-to-be ex-wife.

How ridiculous.

Did he take her for a stray dog shelter?

Chu Li stood where he was, his expression deeply depressed, his heart feeling both annoyed and stifled.

Qin Xingwan returned home, and the kitchen had already been cleaned up.

Qin Nainai lingered for a moment on her granddaughter's slightly swollen lips, then looked at Qin Xingwan's off-color expression, and understood everything clearly.

"I didn't expect him to come looking for you."

"Who wanted him to come?"

"Did he leave?"

"I don't know."

Qin Xingwan went into the bathroom, looked at the marks on her lips, and felt so angry her chest ached.

This dog of a man.

If he likes Qin Yun Shu, can't he keep himself chaste for her?

After scrubbing fiercely several times, she finally felt a bit better.

She thought she had made herself very clear, and that Chu Li should have gone back by now.

She didn't expect that upon waking up, she would find he had come again.

He was wearing black casual clothes, which gave him a different kind of handsomeness compared to his usual suited-and-booted appearance.

Qin Nainai waved with a smile, "A Li is here, and he brought the steamed buns you love most."

Qin Xingwan glared at Chu Li.

Like a ghost that wouldn't leave.

Qin Nainai secretly urged her, "You have to go back to Yuncheng eventually; if you offend him, how will you go back?"

Qin Xingwan wouldn't listen: "I will just stay here with you, I'm not going anywhere."

Qin Nainai gave her a slap, "You have no ambition."

Qin Xingwan didn't listen; anyway, she only wanted to stay by her grandmother's side now.

As for the matters in Yuncheng, she would think of another way.
