Chapter 5: Chu Li, what am I in your heart?

~8 min read 1,424 words

The attendant hurriedly took it.

Qin Xingwan added another sentence: "This dress is worth over a million; even second-hand, it could sell for five or six hundred thousand. If you want it, you can take it home."

The attendant's eyes lit up with excitement.

"Thank you."

She gripped the bag tightly, fearing Qin Xingwan would change her mind, and walked away quickly.

Five or six hundred thousand might take her half a lifetime to save; it would be foolish not to take it.

Qin Yunshu's eyes widened instantly, her face flushed red, and tears teetered at the corners of her eyes.

She couldn't believe it—Qin Xingwan had let the attendant take the gown, even calling it second-hand...

With so many people watching...

She couldn't bear the pointing and whispering around her, so she held back her tears, lowered her head, and ran out.

"Yun Shu." Chu Li cast a cold glance at Qin Xingwan and chased after her.

Qin Xingwan watched expressionlessly as their backs disappeared into the crowd one after the other.

"Xingwan." Lin Qingya worriedly took her arm.

Today's events would surely spread through the circle quickly; Qin Yunshu had lost face, but Chu Li chasing after Qin Yunshu was also incredibly humiliating for Qin Xingwan.

"It's fine, let's go." Qin Xingwan straightened her back and walked out.

Upon reaching the hotel entrance, Qin Xingwan apologized to Lin Qingya; the dress had been made stitch by stitch by Lin Qingya, and discarding it now was a waste of her efforts.

Yet, if she really had to take that gown back, Qin Xingwan would feel disgusted.

"Wanwan, don't say such things to me. If you hadn't helped me back then, I'd probably be nothing but bones by now," Lin Qingya said, her eyes brimming with tears. "Never mind a dress, you can have my life."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Qin Xingwan quickly gripped her hand. "We must both be well."

Lin Qingya insisted on taking Qin Xingwan back to the Yiyuan, but before they could leave, a black Bentley pulled up to the entrance.

At the same time, Qin Xingwan's wrist was seized.

She looked up in surprise and saw Chu Li.

Qin Xingwan frowned; hadn't he chased after Qin Yunshu?

The man's expression was icy. "I'll take you back to the Yiyuan."

Lin Qingya held onto Qin Xingwan's other hand and refused to let go, saying mockingly, "I will take our Wanwan; President Chu should go chase after other women."

Chu Li swept a cold gaze over them; he said nothing, yet his presence was utterly oppressive.

Lin Qingya was not afraid and was about to step forward when Qin Xingwan pulled her back.

"Qingya, you go first, I'm fine." Qin Xingwan persuaded Lin Qingya in a soft tone.

She didn't want Lin Qingya to clash with Chu Li on her account, and besides, there was someone Lin Qingya wanted to see at the banquet today; it would be a pity to miss them.

"Wanwan." Lin Qingya was uneasy, glaring fiercely at Chu Li.

Qin Xingwan said soothingly, "We are still husband and wife for now; he won't do anything to me."

Lin Qingya wanted to say more, but Qin Xingwan broke free from her hand and said with a smile, "Go inside."

Lin Qingya could only urge Qin Xingwan to call if anything happened, then gave Chu Li a warning glare before entering the hotel.

Qin Xingwan shook off Chu Li's hand and got into the car.

Chu Li sat beside her, and the car door closed.

Soft music flowed slowly through the car, like running water, smoothing out the restlessness in one's heart.

The car stopped at a red light.

Half of Chu Li's face was in the shadows: "The relationship between Yun Shu and me is just that of ordinary friends; you know she has someone she likes."

He was explaining, a disguised form of backing down.

It was also the first time he had explained anything since Qin Yunshu returned to the country.

Qin Xingwan looked out the window, her heart aching bitterly, her eyes slightly hot.

She knew very well that he was afraid she would continue to cause a scene and make Qin Yunshu look bad, which was why he was willing to lower himself to explain.

She didn't speak.

"What you did tonight was wrong; you need to apologize to Yun Shu." Chu Li made demands of his wife.

Every word of his explanation was a defense of Qin Yunshu and a rebuke of his wife's unreasonable behavior.

Qin Xingwan turned her head to look at Chu Li; that face she knew so well now seemed exceptionally strange.

"To you, what am I?"

"Yun Shu is my friend of many years, and she is also your sister. She broke up and returned to the country to develop her career; supporting and helping her is what we should do," Chu Li said with an exceptionally stern tone.

His wife was exceptionally mean to this sister.

Chu Li paused and added, "If it's because I once liked her, you can rest assured; I am already married to you and will not cheat."

"You have misunderstood our relationship."

Qin Xingwan felt a heavy, dragging pain in her lower abdomen; she covered her stomach with one hand, and thinking of that child, a foul, stifling rage filled her chest.

She sneered: "Both you and her disgust me."

As the words fell, Qin Xingwan's wrist was gripped.

Chu Li used force, pulling her toward him, his dark, sinister gaze full of anger: "Disgusting?"

They had been husband and wife for three years, and she found him disgusting?

Qin Xingwan tilted her head, meeting his gaze without flinching, "What else? Should I applaud your sycophantic devotion?"

"Qin Xingwan." Chu Li was angered.

"When I was kidnapped, you were celebrating her birthday; when I was lying in the hospital after a miscarriage, you accompanied her to the Perfume Conference. Chu Li, in your heart, what am I?"

"A legal bed partner or a tool for reproduction?"

Qin Xingwan pulled her wrist out of Chu Li's palm bit by bit.

The movement was very slow, yet very resolute.

Chu Li's palm loosened, then suddenly tightened again.

His scorching body temperature was like a branding iron that could not be shaken off.

Qin Xingwan felt extremely uncomfortable, her temper flared up instantly, and she couldn't even be bothered to hide her disgust anymore.

"Chu Li, I just lost your child; if you still have a shred of conscience, stop bothering me."

Chu Li pressed his lips together, said nothing, and did not let go.

Qin Xingwan was so angry her liver ached.

The car soon arrived at Yiyuan.

Chu Li's grip loosened slightly, and Qin Xingwan immediately shook off his hand and got out of the car.

Before she had taken two steps, she was scooped up by Chu Li around the waist.

Her tone was very poor, "Put me down."

Chu Li glanced at her pale complexion: "Don't move."

Qin Xingwan bit her lip and quieted down; she had been caught in a downpour, suffered a miscarriage, and then gone to a cocktail party, so she was currently weak and powerless all over.

Since Chu Li wanted to carry her up, she let things take their natural course.

As soon as she lay down after returning to the hospital room, Tang Yisheng came over.

After performing an examination, Tang Yisheng tactfully reminded her: "The Madam's body is weak; she needs to rest more and keep her mood cheerful."

It was very obvious that the Madam was in a bad mood.

And a woman recovering from a miscarriage needs to keep her mood cheerful.

"Thank you." Qin Xingwan expressed her gratitude; everyone knew she needed rest, only her husband did not.

No, he knew, he just couldn't do it.

Tang Yisheng left.

After the IV drip was hung, Qin Xingwan drifted off into a deep sleep.

When she woke up, she discovered that Chu Li was actually still there.

He was sitting on the sofa not far away, his handsome brows furrowed, holding a document in his hand, his thin lips pressed into a line, showing that he was not in a very good mood.

Qin Xingwan braced her arms, wanting to sit up.

Hearing the sound, Chu Li put down the document in his hand and walked over.

He naturally supported Qin Xingwan's waist and asked in a low voice: "Feeling better?"

"Mm." Qin Xingwan lowered her eyes and responded softly.
