Chapter 57: Qin Shen Holds a Press Conference to Apologize Publicly

~8 min read 1,497 words

"Bang!"

Just as Qin Xingwan's knees were about to hit the floor, the hospital room door was pushed open with great force.

Chu Li and Old Master Chu appeared at the hospital room entrance together.

Qin Xingwan looked toward the door, her eyes stinging.

She moved her lips, calling out silently: "A Li."

Chu Li walked in with a face full of frost, one hand supporting her waist to pull her into his embrace.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here."

He was filled with such rage that he wished he could tear Qin Jianguo and Qin Shen apart and feed them to the dogs.

Qin Xingwan recovered, gently pushed Chu Li away, and went to support her grandmother.

Chu Li helped.

Qin Nainai sat down by the bedside, clutching her chest and breathing with difficulty.

Her vision was darkening, yet she still held onto a breath of strength, wanting to protect her granddaughter.

Qin Jianguo snuck a look at Old Master Chu's expression.

But Old Master Chu was expressionless, and no emotions could be discerned.

He pondered before speaking: "A Li, we have come to take Grandmother and Xingwan home."

At this moment, he was being exceptionally polite.

Chu Li straightened his body, his eyes filled with gloom as thick as ink, and he looked at Qin Shen, saying: "Ashen, you have truly made great progress."

The person he wished to hold in the palm of his hand was being bullied by them like this.

Qin Shen's face turned pale.

Qin Jianguo gave a hollow laugh, attempting to gloss over the matter: "It was just the siblings joking around."

Chu Li ignored him, his tone exceptionally cold: "Since you like kneeling so much, then kneel for Grandmother."

Qin Shen found it unbelievable; he considered himself to have a good relationship with Chu Li, yet he wanted him to kneel?

Grandmother and Qin Xingwan were on the same side; kneeling to Grandmother was equivalent to admitting defeat to Qin Xingwan.

He was unwilling.

Qin Xingwan's eyes were terribly red and swollen; Grandmother's hands were so cold, and her complexion was ashen.

She said in a hoarse voice: "Call the doctor over."

Chu Li reacted and pressed the button to call the doctor.

The doctor came in to examine her, repeating the same old words: the old lady needed more rest and less stimulation.

Qin Jianguo breathed a sigh of relief, his attitude toward Grandmother becoming much more respectful: "I will take Ashen back to the company to handle some matters first."

He was very good at reading people.

Although Old Master Chu was also here, he hadn't spoken the whole time; Qin Jianguo couldn't fathom his thoughts, and he figured that no matter what, Old Master Chu wouldn't openly clash with Chu Li, so leaving now was for the best.

Qin Nainai leaned on Qin Xingwan's arm, resting against the head of the bed, her wrinkled face full of exhaustion.

"Wait," she said.

Qin Xingwan wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and called out in a low voice: "Grandmother."

Qin Xingwan patted her hand, letting her rest easy.

She looked at her son with eyes full of disappointment, her tone very slow: "You say I am biased toward Wanwan, fine, then I will give you a compromise now."

"It is a fact that Qin Shen bullied Wanwan; since you don't want to go to jail, then send him abroad."

After a few years abroad, by the time he returned, Wanwan would have already established a firm footing in Yuncheng, and Qin Shen would no longer be able to bully her.

This was the greatest benefit Qin Nainai could fight for on behalf of her granddaughter.

Otherwise, if this repeated entanglement continued, Wanwan would be destroyed by them sooner or later.

"No," Qin Jianguo was the first to object.

Qin Shen's eyes turned red, and he gazed at Qin Nainai with hatred: "I am not going abroad."

"Then what do you want?" Grandma Qin suddenly raised her voice, losing her temper: "Are you saying Wanwan should just be bullied by you for nothing?"

Qin Xingwan knew Grandmother was standing up for her, but she didn't want to see Grandmother get angry.

Grandmother's protection was enough to warm her scarred heart.

Having Grandmother healthy and well was more important than anything else.

"Grandmother, Wanwan is fine," Qin Xingwan comforted her, tears welling up again.

She didn't want to cry, didn't want to make Grandmother worry.

But the pain and grievance in her heart were hard to suppress.

Chu Li gently gripped her shoulder; he straightened his body, the heartache in his eyes replaced by a stern aura.

"It is settled."

"Hold a press conference, apologize publicly, then go abroad."

Qin Shen panicked: "A Li, you want to drive me away for her sake?"

And he had to hold a press conference to apologize publicly?

That was rubbing his face into the dirt.

Chu Li said coldly: "Do you want to go to jail?"

Qin Shen was speechless.

That incident had also caused massive losses for the Chu Group; if they really pursued it, Qin Shen would have to spend at least several years inside.

Letting him go abroad now was already a sign of great leniency.

Qin Jianguo grew anxious; he looked at Old Master Chu, wanting to ask him to speak up on their behalf.

Old Master Chu remained silent, clearly not intending to help.

Qin Jianguo could only grit his teeth and plead with Qin Nainai: "Mom, I will keep Ashen in line from now on. Xingwan has been wronged; whatever compensation she wants, I will provide."

At this moment, he was finally willing to lower his head.

Unfortunately, it was too late.

Qin Nainai had long since ceased to trust him.

"If you were capable of managing him, how could you have raised him to be like this? To actually have the audacity to demand his younger sister kneel to him—what kind of thing is he?"

The more she spoke, the angrier she became, and she couldn't be bothered to look at him for even a second longer.

Qin Shen was furious, but with Chu Li present, he dared not say anything more; he gritted his teeth, turned, and rushed out the door.

He had to go find Yun Shu for help.

Yun Shu could persuade Chu Li to change his mind.

Qin Jianguo hurried to follow.

Old Master Chu coughed, wanting to say something.

Qin Xingwan said expressionlessly: "Please leave; Nainai needs to rest."

Old Master Chu glanced at Qin Nainai's ashen complexion and rubbed his nose; for a moment, he wanted to speak but couldn't bring himself to do so.

In the end, he could only leave.

The hospital room fell silent.

Chu Li said softly: "Xingwan, go get some rest; I will have a caregiver come to look after Nainai."

Qin Xingwan closed her eyes, "You go out too."

Her emotions were very complicated at this moment.

"Xingwan."

"Get out."

Qin Xingwan was haggard and disheveled, with no energy to deal with his gentleness.

The gentleness on Chu Li's face faded.

He had compressed a three-day business trip into two days just to come back and see her.

And upon returning, he had stood up for her.

Yet she was driving him away.

All his fervent feelings were chilled through by her attitude.

He dragged her out of the hospital room and observed her expression.

"Are you resenting me?"

Qin Xingwan looked at him coldly and said expressionlessly: "The divorce cooling-off period is about to end; I hope you appear on time."

There was a deathly silence in the corridor for several seconds.

Chu Li let go of her hand, his thin lips pressed together, and his gaze turned gloomy in an instant.

Yet, he still suppressed his simmering anger.

"Xingwan."

He reached out to take her hand, his voice low and gentle.

Qin Xingwan mercilessly shook off his hand, her red, swollen eyes filled with anger, "Chu Li, it was you, wasn't it? You were the one who instigated Qin Yunshu to bring Nainai back to Yuncheng."

Chu Li frowned, "I can explain."

He recounted the situation from that day, "Xingwan, this is a misunderstanding."

Moreover, after he found out, he immediately transferred Nainai to a different hospital room.

Qin Xingwan shook her head, refusing to listen to such explanations.

In her eyes, layer upon layer of pain was visible.

"Chu Li, I don't love you anymore; please let me go."

"Xingwan."

Qin Xingwan looked up, her face full of impatience, yet her eyes burned with nothing but sarcasm.

"Back then, when Qin Yunshu fled the marriage, you settled for me and married me; after she returned, you were involved with her, and now that we are getting a divorce, you say you like me..."

"Heh, aren't you pathetic?"

Her words were sharp and biting, as if she didn't see the grim look that had already appeared on Chu Li's face.
