Chapter 59: I'm Petty, and I Just Love to Meddle
Qin Xingwan stood at the entrance for a long time, the screen of her phone displaying Chu Li's number.
She dialed, but no one answered.
She gave a helpless, bitter smile; had she known she would need to ask him for help, she shouldn't have spoken so decisively back then.
Low rumbles of thunder rolled across the sky; it was clearly about to rain.
Qin Xingwan had no choice but to leave.
As she turned, she happened to run into an acquaintance.
"Fang Yiwen," she greeted.
Fang Yiwen was carrying a box in his hand; he looked surprised to see her, then frowned: "You..."
She had lost so much weight in just a few days, and even the light in her eyes had faded.
He asked with concern: "Are you not feeling well?"
Qin Xingwan explained that she had come to get medicine for her grandmother, and Fang Yiwen brought her inside without a second word.
Qin Xingwan felt a touch of warmth in her heart.
"Thank you."
Chu Li was talking with Old Master Yu; seeing Qin Xingwan and Fang Yiwen enter together, his gaze lowered, revealing no emotion.
Qin Xingwan explained her purpose.
Old Master Yu stood up immediately to ask about Qin Nainai's condition, wrote a new prescription, had someone prepare the medicine for Qin Xingwan, and urged her to take good care of her grandmother.
Qin Xingwan let out a sigh of relief; she had been worried that the old master would ignore her, but she hadn't expected him to be so approachable.
After getting the medicine, Qin Xingwan left.
From beginning to end, she didn't glance at Chu Li once.
Fang Yiwen walked her to the entrance, and seeing the sky growing darker, offered to take her back.
Having obtained the medicine, Qin Xingwan's mood improved significantly, and a bright smile appeared on her face.
"No need, I'll take a taxi; it'll be quick."
Fang Yiwen was silent for a moment, then asked about the divorce certificate.
Qin Xingwan smiled lightly, "I will get it this time."
She had said those things to Chu Li, and given his pride, he would surely be happy to divorce quickly this time.
On the second floor, Chu Li stood before the window, watching with an expressionless face.
Qin Xingwan clutched the medicine bag to her chest, standing by the roadside waiting for a taxi.
Soon, she was blocked by two bodyguards in black, "The Madam requests your presence."
Qin Xingwan looked not far away; she recognized that as the Qin Family's car.
The rain began to fall.
Qin Xingwan didn't want the medicine to get wet, so she got into the car.
The car door closed, shutting out the sounds from outside.
Lady Qin glanced at the paper bag in Qin Xingwan's arms, her expression carrying a hint of feigned concern, "Medicine for your grandmother, right? What a filial child. I'll take you to the Yiyuan."
Qin Xingwan gave a blank "Mm."
Lady Qin sighed softly and rubbed her brow, "Xingwan, you should know why Mom came to find you."
"Mom begs you, please let Ashen go, okay?"
She held Qin Xingwan's hand, pleading gently, her eyes welling up with a touch of sadness.
"The reason I only took your brother back then was because I was pregnant with Yun Shu; later, when we didn't come for you, it was because your father and I were truly busy, thinking you would be freer living in the countryside with your grandmother. We neglected you."
"If you forgive Ashen this time, Mom and Dad will definitely dote on you twice as much in the future."
As she spoke, tears fell.
Qin Xingwan watched those tears, her emotions completely unmoved.
The Qin Xingwan of that time had wanted her parents' affection.
The Qin Xingwan of today had long since passed the age of yearning for familial love.
She even found it laughable.
She asked: "Grandmother has been hospitalized for so long; have you ever gone to see her?"
Aside from the day Qin Nainai arrived in Yuncheng, Lady Qin had never stepped foot into her grandmother's hospital room again.
Lady Qin choked, feeling a bit guilty: "You know, I'm very busy."
Qin Xingwan didn't speak, her expression cold.
The gentleness on Lady Qin's face stiffened, and then, unable to control her emotions, her delicate features became ferocious and angry.
"Qin Xingwan, I am your biological mother. Are you going to go against me for the sake of an old woman who is a generation removed from you?"
"It was that 'old woman' you speak of who raised me."
"I paid for that, too."
Lady Qin was bitter about this matter; she had provided living expenses, so it wasn't as if she had left her daughter to fend for herself.
Qin Xingwan shook her head; she couldn't reason with Lady Qin, and she couldn't be bothered to try anymore.
She opened the door and got out of the car.
Lady Qin was stunned with rage, her heart filled with Qin Xingwan's defiance.
She had braved the rain to beg for medicine for that old woman, so filial.
Yet she showed no good face to her own biological mother.
Malice rose in her heart.
She said coldly: "Stop the car."
The car stopped by the side of the road.
The rain grew heavier, pattering loudly against the car windows.
"Get out." Lady Qin ordered, her face expressionless.
Qin Xingwan was silent for a few seconds, then opened the car door and got out.
Yet she did not expect that the next second, the medicine bag in her arms would be snatched away by Lady Qin, followed by a powerful shove to her back that sent her tumbling into the rain before she could react.
Lady Qin pushed her daughter out, who had already stepped one foot out of the car.
Then, she raised her hand and threw the medicine bag out.
The medicine packets rolled out of the paper bag, scattering everywhere, and were soaked by the rain in an instant.
That was Grandma's medicine...
Qin Xingwan scrambled to pick up the medicine packets, practically crawling.
The rain was too heavy; the medicine packets were all soaked.
She stood in the rain clutching the medicine packets, the rainwater blurring her eyes, and in her hazy vision was the cold gaze of Lady Qin.
Such hatred.
"What medicine are you taking? The sooner you die, the sooner you'll be reincarnated." Lady Qin cursed viciously and closed the car window.
The car drove away.
Qin Xingwan was trembling all over with rage.
She never expected that Lady Qin would push her from behind while she was getting out of the car, and even throw away Grandma's medicine.
The heavy rain poured down, shrouding the world in gray.
Qin Xingwan was soaked through from head to toe in no time.
Fortunately, there was a shop not far ahead.
She hurried toward it, but stepped on something and fell to the ground.
A sharp pain shot through her arm.
She looked at the completely soaked medicine packets, and the string that had been taut in her mind snapped completely.
She sat blankly on the ground, as if she had lost all her strength, unable to get up for a long time.
Tears fell, mixed with the rain.
More and more.
I do not know how much time passed, but the cold rain suddenly stopped.
Qin Xingwan looked up, with either rainwater or tears hanging on her eyelashes, and looked at the expressionless Chu Li.
"Do you intend to stand here and be rained to death?" Chu Li's tone was not very pleasant.
Qin Xingwan wiped her tears, her voice hoarse, "I don't need you to care."
Chu Li laughed in anger, grabbed her arm to pull her up, and threw her into the car none too gently.
"I'm cheap, I just love to meddle."
The leather seats were covered in water stains.
Chu Li did not even blink and sat right down on them.
Qin Xingwan was emotionally unstable, holding the soaked medicine packets and shedding tears.
She cried for a while, then raised the back of her hand to wipe them away.
Then she continued to cry.
Chu Li felt irritable: "In such heavy rain, didn't Fang Yiwen send you?"
Before his words had faded, his phone rang.
Qin Xingwan turned her head and saw the name Cheng Mingzhu.
Chu Li answered, Cheng Mingzhu asked where he was, and he replied that he was on his way home.
The call ended.
Qin Xingwan wiped her tears, not knowing what she was thinking, and asked subconsciously: "Does Cheng Mingzhu know you came to find me?"
Chu Li sneered: "What status do you have to manage my affairs?"
Qin Xingwan was feeling bitter and angry; she pressed her fingernails hard, tearing a hole in the wet paper bag.
She subconsciously wanted to snap back at him, but as soon as she opened her mouth, she sneezed in a very ungraceful manner.
She had been caught in the rain, and the seat was now soaking wet.
Chu Li glanced at the driver, who hurriedly turned the heater up to the max.
But Qin Xingwan kept sneezing one after another, her nose turning red.
Chu Li suppressed the emotions in his heart, not wanting to care, but the words were already out before he could control them.
"Come here."
