Chapter 87: Like? It Doesn't Matter Anymore
Three years ago, a flower shop in Bali Town that had been open for ten years caught fire in the middle of the night, burning two people to death.
One was the owner of the flower shop, surnamed Wen, a woman in her fifties who was said to have come to Bali Town specifically for her retirement.
The other was a woman who had just given birth not long before; she was the adopted daughter of the shop owner, Wen.
The fire started quickly and burned quickly, and since it started in the middle of the night, by the time it was discovered, the people could no longer be saved.
Later, it was a close neighbor who handled the funeral arrangements for this poor mother and daughter.
……
Qin Xingwan woke up from a nightmare with a start, drenched in sweat.
She sat there blankly for a while, went to wash her face, and her mind gradually became clear.
After standing for a while longer to cast aside the chaotic thoughts in her mind, she finally went out.
Wen Lvzhong was standing by the bed checking on his son's condition.
"Did Chu Li agree?" he asked, his expression complex.
The doctor had called to tell him about this, and he had rushed back immediately.
Qin Xingwan nodded.
Wen Lvzhong felt conflicted; Qin Xingwan was not Ping'an's biological mother, so there was really no need for her to do this.
"Xingwan, did you agree to any conditions from him again?"
Qin Xingwan lowered her eyes, her tone very light: "I just agreed to be with him."
Wen Lvzhong felt it was cruel, because Qin Xingwan had always been trying to leave Chu Li, yet now she was forced to be with him again.
He couldn't help but ask: "Do you still like him?"
Like?
Qin Xingwan repeated these two words silently in her heart.
She smiled bitterly.
"It doesn't matter anymore."
Feelings are not worth mentioning in the face of reality.
Qin Xingwan didn't want to discuss this topic, so she asked Wen Lvzhong, "Do you have time? I want to take you to see Grandma."
"She has a very good relationship with me; Grandma treats her like her own granddaughter," Qin Xingwan added, "Just don't mention Ping'an's illness; Grandma doesn't know yet."
Wen Lvzhong agreed.
He instructed the nanny to take good care of Wen Ping'an and left with Qin Xingwan.
In the hallway outside, Chu Li was just about to enter.
The two men came face to face, both remembering the fight from before, and their expressions were unpleasant.
But thinking of his son, Wen Lvzhong lowered his head first: "Thank you."
Two simple words contained all the gratitude of a father.
Chu Li snorted coldly: "I'm not helping you."
He did not like Wen Lvzhong.
As the child's father, Wen Lvzhong should have been the one worrying about the child's illness, yet it was Qin Xingwan who bore everything.
Although because of Wen Ping'an, he had a reason to keep Qin Xingwan by his side, he simply looked down on Wen Lvzhong.
He was just quite useless.
Qin Xingwan tugged on Chu Li's sleeve and calmly invited him: "Shall we go see Grandma together?"
She hadn't been this gentle in a long time; Chu Li was in a good mood and didn't bicker with Wen Lvzhong anymore.
He said generously: "Do you want to transfer Ping'an to the hospital over there?"
Wen Lvzhong refused; the doctors here were authorities in treating leukemia, which was beneficial for Wen Ping'an.
Besides, the relationship between Qin Xingwan and Chu Li was already a tangled mess.
He didn't want to trouble her any further.
At the hospital, when Qin Nainai saw Wen Lvzhong, she held his hand, too moved to speak.
Qin Xingwan's eyes also turned red.
Qin Nainai knew about Wen Lvzhong's memory loss, and with Chu Li here, she had to keep many things she wanted to say to herself.
"Is the child doing well?" Grandma wanted to see that child most of all.
"He's feeling a bit unwell, so I didn't bring him," Wen Lvzhong said patiently to soothe her, "When you're feeling better, I'll bring him to see you. If he knew he had a grandma, I don't know how happy he would be."
A smile appeared on Qin Nainai's face.
But a look of worry soon surfaced again, "The Wen Family still refuses to acknowledge him, right?"
Wen Lvzhong smiled bitterly; his family members all clung to those decaying rules.
Qin Nainai comforted him: "It doesn't matter, you still have me, this great-grandmother."
Not knowing what she thought of, her cloudy eyes welled up with tears again, "When the child is better, you take him, and let Wanwan accompany you back to Bali Town for a visit."
Wen Lvzhong knew she meant to go back and see Wen Ping'an's biological mother, and he agreed.
He also wanted to take a look at the person he had once liked.
Qin Nainai wasn't feeling very energetic, so after chatting for a while, she let them leave.
When they reached the hallway outside, they ran into Qin Jianguo.
Qin Nainai did not care for Qin Jianguo, but because he was her only son, she still let the hospital grant him access.
Qin Jianguo came to see Qin Nainai almost every day; compared to before, he was now practically a model of filial piety.
Seeing Qin Xingwan, Chu Li, and Wen Lvzhong together, he was all smiles, "Xingwan, you're here. Is Ping'an feeling any better?"
It was as if it hadn't been him who used a matching test to force Qin Xingwan into a blind date earlier.
Qin Xingwan had never seen anyone as shameless as him.
But she could not say anything, so she nodded faintly, "Grandma is asleep."
She left a step ahead.
Chu Li and Wen Lvzhong also left.
The words Qin Jianguo had meant to use to invite them to dinner were still stuck in his throat; he could only feel annoyed, blaming Qin Xingwan for having no sense of the situation.
Wen Lvzhong returned to the Yiyuan.
Chu Li had the driver take Qin Xingwan back to Beicheng Villa.
He, meanwhile, went to the company to handle matters.
Qin Xingwan looked at the heavy traffic, her heart completely calm.
Wen Ping'an's illness could be saved, and with her heart feeling lighter, she did not want to go back so soon.
She had the driver take her to find Lin Qingya.
She did not expect to run into Cheng Mingzhu and Madam Chu.
Cheng Mingzhu was criticizing the clothes in Lin Qingya's shop as worthless, and the two customers who had originally been discussing custom pieces were both scared away.
Madam Chu stood to the side, watching calmly.
Qin Xingwan had not expected that she would implicate Lin Qingya.
She pushed the door open and entered.
She happened to hear Cheng Mingzhu spouting nonsense, "You dare call this design? It's all just trash. Are you treating your customers like trash cans?"
Qin Xingwan picked up a cup of tea from the table—she did not know which customer had drunk it—and splashed it onto Cheng Mingzhu's face.
"Miss Cheng must not have brushed her teeth; your mouth is so foul."
Cheng Mingzhu had been splashed by Qin Xingwan for the second time; she flew into a rage and shrieked, "Qin Xingwan!"
Her face flushed red, looking quite ferocious.
Lin Qingya was startled and hurriedly pulled Qin Xingwan to her side, "Xingwan, you're here."
When Madam Chu saw Qin Xingwan, old grudges and new hatreds combined, and her temper flared up immediately.
She raised her palm to strike down.
Qin Xingwan intercepted her wrist halfway, flung it away fiercely, and Madam Chu bumped into the table, looking very disheveled.
She had not expected Qin Xingwan to fight back.
"Qin Xingwan, you dare lay a hand on me?"
Qin Xingwan sneered; what did she have to be afraid of? Before, it was because she liked Chu Li and wanted to gain the approval of his family, so she was obedient in everything; plus, they always used Grandma to threaten her, so she had no choice but to comply.
But now, Qin Nainai was being looked after by Old Master Chu, Ping'an was with Wen Lvzhong, and she had already let go of her feelings for Chu Li.
Therefore, if Madam Chu wanted to lay a hand on her, she would no longer endure it.
"Get out." She looked at them expressionlessly and chased them away unceremoniously.
Cheng Mingzhu's eyes turned red with anger, and she snapped at Lin Qingya, "You actually hang out with this woman; do you not want to keep living in Yuncheng anymore?"
Qin Xingwan picked up the other half-cup of tea and made a move to splash it on Cheng Mingzhu's face; Cheng Mingzhu was so scared she retreated repeatedly and had no choice but to leave.
Madam Chu threatened her viciously, "Qin Xingwan, don't get cocky. You persistent vixen, I will deal with you sooner or later."
Qin Xingwan raised her hand, and Madam Chu fled in a panic.
Lin Qingya hurriedly closed the door and took the teacup from Qin Xingwan's hand.
Qin Xingwan apologized to her, "I implicated you."
Lin Qingya knew she had misunderstood and smiled bitterly as she pulled her to sit down, "It has nothing to do with you; she and I already had a bad relationship."
Qin Xingwan was surprised, "You know each other?"
Lin Qingya did not want to discuss this topic; she had recently tailored new clothes and urged Qin Xingwan to try them on.
Qin Xingwan frowned slightly; she could feel that Lin Qingya was somewhat absent-minded.
She was hiding something in her heart.
