Chapter 30: Slaughterhouse

~6 min read 1,145 words

"Bang!"

The heavy iron door to the rooftop was kicked open by Qin Zhixia!

The howling gale, mixed with the cold air from a hundred meters up, rushed in violently, blowing her forehead hair into a frenzy.

"Team One left, Team Two right! Spread formation, stay alert!"

Qin Zhixia drew her sidearm, her crimson phoenix eyes sharp as an eagle's, and charged onto the rooftop first.

More than ten special police officers followed closely, their tactical moves flawless, quickly fanning out in a semicircle, guns trained on every corner of the rooftop, standing ready.

The empty rooftop, aside from a few huge ventilation units and water tanks, lay bare.

The wind whistled in her ears like ghosts wailing.

"Northwest side secure!" a young officer shouted, leaning against the railing at one corner of the rooftop.

As his words fell, he blinked involuntarily.

It was just that blink.

When he opened his eyes again.

His pupils suddenly contracted to pinpricks!

A stiff figure had silently appeared less than five meters ahead of him on the rooftop's edge before he knew it!

It was Director Li, who had just vanished from the hallway!

He had his back to everyone, his body ramrod straight, like a puppet whose soul had been pulled out, leaving only an empty shell.

"Wrong, he's here!"

The officer shouted so hard his voice cracked, and that cry made everyone's heart on the rooftop skip a beat!

All gun barrels instantly swung to aim in unison at the figure standing on the edge of death.

"Don't move!"

Qin Zhixia's heart leapt to her throat as she shouted loudly, trying to use her voice to pull that lost soul back.

"Director Li! Look at me! We're here! You're safe!"

Yet that figure gave no response to her cries.

The two nearest special police officers had already bent low and rushed toward him at top speed.

Five meters!

Four meters!

Three meters!

Just as the nearest officer's fingertips were about to graze his sleeve—

Director Li slowly turned around.

His face showed no fear, no pain, only an extremely weird expression.

He gave everyone a grin.

Then his body simply went rigid and toppled backward.

Like a kite with its string cut.

He plummeted from a height of a hundred meters!

"No!"

Qin Zhixia rushed to the rooftop edge like a madwoman, watching helplessly as that black dot shrank rapidly in her vision.

Below, the fire truck that had just arrived began scrambling to lay out safety airbags.

But it was too late.

Everything was too late.

A few seconds later.

"Thud!"

A dull thud, like a watermelon smashing, came from the ground.

Next came a tsunami-like outcry of screams and panic from the crowd.

Qin Zhixia's body swayed; a fierce vertigo surged straight to her Heavenly Spirit Cover, and she clung to the cold railing to keep from collapsing on the spot.

This was truly the first time.

She watched helplessly as a life ended before her eyes in a way she could not comprehend.

This building......

This building is no longer just a building!

It is a massive, living tomb!

And the hallway is the slaughterhouse of "that thing"!

We can't evacuate normally!

She jerked upright, pulled out her phone, fingers trembling from the effort, and dialed the command center in a near‑roaring tone.

"I need a helicopter! Immediately! Right now! Mobilize it with my highest authorization!"

"Repeat! I need a helicopter!"

……

Less than ten minutes.

"Rumble——"

The roar of huge rotors grew from distant to near as a police helicopter came screaming in, kicking up wind and hovering steadily above the rooftop.

"Hurry! Get up there!"

Qin Zhixia directed the officers to drag the several directors from the meeting room—soul‑scattered, legs weak and unable to stand—up onto the rooftop.

The cabin door opened, and the rope ladder was lowered.

"I don't want to! I don't want to go up! I won't leave the ground!" a director shouted, clinging desperately to the ventilation duct, refusing to move no matter what.

"Go up! Or stay here and wait to die! Choose for yourself!"

Qin Zhixia swung her long legs, kicked the pipe beside him with one foot, producing a huge sound, her aura overwhelming to the extreme.

Qin Zhixia in this state was scarier than a ghost.

That director trembled with fear, was pushed onto the rope ladder by policemen as he rolled and crawled.

An emergency transfer like a wartime withdrawal was underway in chaos and speed at the top of the Han De Building.

When the last director was shoved into the cabin, the helicopter began to rise slowly.

As the fuselage moved away from the building exuding an ominous aura, feeling the solid sensation return underfoot, the few surviving directors in the cabin finally broke down.

They slumped in their seats, gasping heavily, the relief of having survived the ordeal bringing tears to their eyes.

Qin Zhixia looked at them, then glanced down at the Han De Building receding into the distance, her suspicions further confirmed.

"You are safe now."

She said, her voice hoarse, tinged with fatigue.

That sentence was like pressing a switch.

"Safe? Safe? Hahaha!"

The chairman seated innermost, Jiang Hande, suddenly burst into hysterical laughter.

He clutched his meticulously groomed hair with both hands, tearing at it, his expression twisted, seeming mad.

Everything that happened today utterly shattered the pride and dignity of this business tycoon.

"It's Wang Kai! It's Wang Kai who's come back!"

Another director's psychological defenses also collapsed completely.

He jumped to his feet, pointing at Jiang Hande, then at everyone else left in the cabin, and roared at Qin Zhixia with a heart-rending tone:

"He's come back to take revenge!!"

"The decision to forcibly demolish his home for the West City project to meet the deadline was signed by all of us!"

"His wife and daughter were buried alive! He himself was shoved off the building by those mad dog thugs and entombed in the wall!"

"None of us can escape! None of us can escape!"

"We'll all die! He'll drag us down from the sky and smash us into pulp! Hahaha!"

This mad confession struck like a thunderbolt from a clear sky, exploding in the cramped cabin.

Qin Zhixia's blood nearly froze in that instant.

Wang Kai.

"Ghost hitting the wall"

Board of Directors

All the clues, at this moment, were fully connected!

She finally understood the ultimate goal of "ghost hitting the wall"!

It was the entire Board of Directors of the Han De Group!

Not a single one spared!

She instinctively looked toward the survivors in the cabin.

Jiang Hande, plus another six directors.

Seven people.

Not one missing, all here.

Qin Zhixia's heart sank little by little, a bone-chilling cold surging from the soles of her feet to the top of her head.

The real battle...... has only just begun.
