Chapter 526: Add a Few of Us, How About It
Gray‑white and deep blue fought fiercely in the rain curtain.
Lin Fan was still mid‑air; Black Water had already spread ahead, and a long knife sliced upward through Sai Men's throat.
The blade path was wild.
There were no pretty opening moves from the Federation training system, nor the usual rule‑laying of the cunning.
It was simply killing.
Blade after blade rushed forward.
Sai Men's staff blocked horizontally, and the Living Eyeball at its tip spun madly, its pupil filled with dense gray patterns.
Clang!
The Black Water long knife slashed the staff.
The Blue Flame of the Nether climbed the staff, scorching the eyeball until it contracted wildly; gray blood seeped from the white of the eye, and rain turned it into a filthy streak.
Sai Men tipped his shoulder back by half an inch.
In the next second, his knee already drove toward Lin Fan's abdomen.
Lin Fan lifted his leg to meet it hard; the crisp snap of bone joints made the medics' teeth ache in the distance.
Both retreated simultaneously, then surged forward together.
It was so fast that the battlefield command system could only catch two lingering afterimages.
Gray chaos spread into steps.
A surge of Black Water lifted Lin Fan.
Sai Men stood on high ground, pointing his staff.
The Black Water beneath Lin Fan's feet was half‑swallowed by Gray Mist; the vengeful spirit faces that rose on the surface hadn't time to scream before they were merged into faceless gray shadows.
Ling Xinyu's long hair shot out from behind Lin Fan's shoulder, forcibly pulling that Black Water back.
Her spirit flickered.
It was light.
But Lin Fan felt it.
"Xin Yu?"
Ling Xinyu gave no reply; her pale hand pressed on his back, as if saying it's fine.
Lin Fan's right eye's deep blue flame suddenly flared upward.
"Don't force it."
Sai Men lightly clapped.
"How touching."
"Battlefield couples' mutual‑concern segment, suggest charging separately."
Lin Fan looked up.
"Your words are truly secret."
Blade light skimmed the rain curtain, cutting through.
Sai Men sidestepped, and the freshly healed suit on his chest was cut open again.
This time, gray blood splattered out.
Lin Fan didn't stop.
The Black Water long knife flipped in his palm, its back striking Sai Men's wrist, while his other hand clenched a fist aimed at the Mask.
Sai Men tilted his head; his fist brushed the edge of the Gray Mask, and the stone‑like mask cracked a fine fissure.
He finally let out a low laugh.
"Face‑slap?"
"Young man, you're very impolite."
Lin Fan answered with a knee strike.
Sai Men's staff was driven into the ground.
A gray ring spread from his feet.
The surrounding collapsed church walls, overturned armored vehicle, scattered shells—all lost their original forms after the ring swept over them, turning into a layer of gray powder.
Physical laws were rewritten.
Weight ceased to work.
Distance became misaligned.
Lin Fan was clearly already close to Sai Men, yet when the blade fell, a hundred meters of empty space suddenly appeared between them.
"Spatial type?"
Su Ming cursed softly from afar.
"No, more than that."
He half‑knelt in the mud, his fingertips pinching a Time Marrow Worm, sweat soaking his temples.
"He's rewriting the 'approach' outcome."
Liang Wen leaned against the broken wall, the Black Flame Knife held across his leg, panting like a broken wind‑box, yet still managed to comment.
"Translate into human language."
"This guy activated a rule hook, yet doesn't speak martial virtue."
Jiang Yuan stayed silent.
Half of his body hadn't fully recovered; shadow churned in the wound, the flesh‑repairing process brutally harsh.
The medic pressed his shoulder.
"Jiang Team, you can't move any more; your body almost collapsed just now."
Jiang Yuan stared at the center of the battlefield.
Lin Fan charged forward again.
Black Water paved the way, and the Blue Flame of the Nether forced its way through the distance rewritten by Sai Men.
But each time it burned through, Ling Xinyu's outline faded a little.
A streak of blood ran down below Lin Fan's right eye.
Very red.
Red enough to sting the eyes.
Sai Men looked at the blood, his tone overly cheerful.
"It's started."
"Variables always have limits, right?"
Lin Fan ignored it.
He swung his sword horizontally.
Sai Men raised his hand, his five fingers forming a void grip.
The Living Eyeball spun wildly, gray chaos roiling up from deep within the eyeball, like an opened filthy sea eye, swallowing the Hellfire on the blade in reverse.
The blue flame was suppressed.
Black Water emitted a harsh, grating hiss.
Ling Xinyu's spirit flickered again, the tips of her long hair turning into tiny specks of light.
Lin Fan's left hand grasped the hilt, his arms sank, and he forced the long sword, which had been swallowed, out.
"Spit it out for me."
Sai Men laughed, his shoulders trembling lightly.
"Rude."
"But effective."
Lin Fan roared, as if wild fire rolled through his chest; Black Water surged from behind him, forming dozens of water blades that slashed at Sai Men from multiple angles simultaneously.
Sai Men neither dodged nor evaded.
The Eyeball Staff was thrust into the ground.
Gray chaos spouted upward.
The water blades struck it, without exploding, without rebounding, not even a splash rose.
They were consumed.
Completely clean.
Ling Xinyu let out a muffled hum.
This time, Lin Fan heard it clearly.
All the ferocity on his face was suppressed, leaving only a more terrifying calm.
"Sai Men."
"Hm?"
"You have committed the biggest mistake."
Sai Men raised his hand and pointed at himself.
"Wow, I'm being accused."
"But that's unfair; clearly the two of you struck me together."
Lin Fan stepped forward.
The Black Water beneath his feet was swallowed by Gray Mist, and he used the crumbling wall for leverage.
The crumbling wall turned to ash, and he walked forward on the Gray Mist.
The Gray Mist bit back at his ankles, so he burned away the contamination on his flesh with Hellfire.
Pain.
Each step hurt with a numbing sting.
But he didn't stop.
Ling Xinyu pressed against his back, her hands encircling his shoulders.
That resentment was stretched to its limit within the Symbiosis circuit.
Sai Men smiled even more happily.
"So passionate."
"So cliché."
"So spectacular."
He suddenly lifted the staff and lightly tapped the edge of the Mask.
Thud.
The rain on the battlefield stopped.
It wasn't truly stopped.
Rather, every raindrop in midair lost the right to fall.
The light was stripped away.
Gunfire, spotlights, and the blue spilling from Hellfire were swallowed piece by piece by the Gray Mist.
Soon after, the shouts, channel static, and wounded's gasps were also pulled away.
Heaven and earth were left only with the sticky sound of the eyeball on Sai Men's staff turning.
Su Ming's pupils contracted.
"Retreat!"
He opened his mouth, but no words came from his throat.
The Time Marrow Worm thrashed beneath his skin, yet it seemed to slam into a wall with no boundaries.
Sai Men stood in the center of the Gray Mist, spreading his arms.
"Ladies and gentlemen."
"Now we proceed to the bonus question."
"The question is simple."
"If a person has the concept of 'existence' erased, do his love, his hatred, and his debts still count?"
The Gray Mist gathered upward.
A massive Abyssal maw formed beneath the heavens.
It had no teeth.
No tongue.
Only layers upon layers of gray folds, each bearing broken threads of cause and effect.
Where it devoured, not even ruins remained.
It is not destruction.
It is erasure from the record.
The Black Water under Lin Fan's feet was pressed and retreated frantically.
Half of Ling Xinyu's silhouette began to become transparent.
Lin Fan lifted his blade to block, but the Blue Flame of the Nether on the blade was being pressed down inch by inch.
Blood rushed faster from his right eye.
Sai Men tilted his head.
"Lin Fan, take a guess."
"Does she disappear first, or do you disappear first?"
Lin Fan clenched his teeth.
Blood seeped from his teeth.
"I guess you'll die first."
He pushed the blade upward.
But the Gray Mist maw pressed down even faster.
The Black Water kept evaporating.
The Hellfire kept extinguishing and reigniting.
Ling Xinyu poured all her power into him, yet her own outline grew thinner.
Lin Fan's chest felt as if it were being hollowed out alive.
"Don't show off for me!"
Ling Xinyu's hand rested against the side of his face.
It was icy.
Yet it was so light it made one uneasy.
In the distance, Jiang Yuan shoved the medic aside in one motion.
The medic fell into the mudwater, panicking to the point of hoarseness.
"Jiang Team!"
Jiang Yuan did not look back.
He rose very slowly.
Every inch of his muscles protested.
The body that had just disintegrated and healed could not bear a second domain activation.
But his hand had already reached for the Card Bag at his waist.
A Dark Playing Card slipped into his fingers.
On the card's face, the throne pattern was stained red with blood.
The Shadow Abyss churned deep within his pupils.
"I… haven't fallen yet!"
He lifted his foot forward.
The first step, the shadow beneath his foot shattered.
The second step, blood beads seeped from his pores.
The third step, the shadow behind him rose from the ground, like a palace forged from night.
Su Ming saw this scene and turned pale.
"Jiang Yuan, don't act recklessly!"
Jiang Yuan did not stop.
He stared at the Gray Mist maw that was swallowing toward Lin Fan.
Many images flashed through his mind.
Saint John Hospital.
Shadow Legion.
Those who died in front of him.
Jiang Yuan suddenly smiled a little.
Very short.
"Sorry."
"I'm not good at listening to advice."
A Poker Card slipped from his hand.
One.
Ten.
One hundred.
Countless black Poker Cards flew out of the shadow, spread in mid‑air, their edges cutting through the Gray Mist, emitting a friction that made one's teeth ache.
At the instant the Gray Mist's massive mouth was about to close.
Jiang Yuan raised his hand.
His hoarse voice, however, drowned out the stripped battlefield.
"Dark Shadow Court."
"Rise."
The ink‑black throne rose up from beneath the ruins.
High walls lined up.
The card formation was like iron.
Countless black Poker Cards turned into towering walls, forcefully wedging themselves between the upper and lower jaws of the Gray Mist's massive mouth.
Click!
The Gray Mist's closing was jammed.
Lin Fan felt the pressure on his shoulder suddenly lighten, and seized the chance to embrace Ling Xinyu's faint spirit; the Black Water recoiled, forcibly retreating from the edge where the concept had been erased.
Sai Men looked at Jiang Yuan.
The crimson behind the Mask shone so brightly it was piercing.
"Oh?"
Jiang Yuan stepped on the black shadow, rising step by step into the air.
His battle suit was soaked with blood, and his face was covered in rainwater and blood.
But he stood very straight.
Behind him, the Dark Shadow Court unfolded, the throne hanging high, a multitude of cards surrounding it like a silent army.
"Humans this side."
Jiang Yuan wiped the blood from his lips.
"Not handed in the paper yet."
Lin Fan turned his head and gave him a glance.
"Weren't you about to die?"
Jiang Yuan gasped twice and answered seriously.
"Still a little short."
Lin Fan chuckled.
"Then don't steal the spotlight."
Jiang Yuan actually nodded.
"You take the offense, I block the Rules."
Sai Men, after listening, slowly clapped his hands.
"Brilliant."
"A Symbiosis monster not within the system."
"A newly crowned Shadow King."
"Humans really add shows to the exam hall."
Lin Fan raised his knife.
Jiang Yuan raised his card.
The Blue Flame of the Nether and the ink‑black throne pressed side by side toward the gray chaos.
Sai Men's staff turned gently, and the Living Eyeball was so excited it was filled with blood vessels.
Behind the ruins, Liang Wen leaned on the Black Flame Knife, swaying as he stood up.
He spat a mouthful of blood, raised his hand and smoothed his hair, which the rain had messed up.
"Hey."
That voice was flippant, yet terribly weak.
"Since it's the chief examiner's test paper, answering alone isn't much fun."
Liang Wen opened his mouth, and the Black Flame crawled up from the blade.
"How about adding a few of us?"
