Chapter 1042: Don't You Go Doing Anything Rash—Careful Someone Might Be Listening at the Wall
If today hadn't been his youngest son's big day, he would have split the family on the spot, letting the brothers each fend for themselves from then on—whether they lived well or poorly would be their own business. But he didn't want people to slander the fourth brother's wife in the future, so he forced himself to hold back.
Fu Yan Cheng couldn't care less how she carried on; after all, it would be his second brother cleaning up the mess.
After dinner, Fu Yan Cheng drew water early and brought it into the room: "Wife, the house is limited in its conditions, there's no dedicated bathing room. Make do with a wipe-down for now. Once we've made our return visit and split the household, we'll move out and start our own little life."
Liu Chuxue naturally understood what she was worried about: "I didn't take second sister's words to heart. The things are mine; if I don't want to give them, no one can take them away. Whether she uses provocation or shrew tactics, it's useless against me."
Seeing that his wife wasn't affected by second sister's words, Fu Yan Cheng finally set his mind at ease.
After that, whatever Liu Chuxue said, he didn't really pay attention, his whole mind fixed on the wedding night to come.
After helping his wife wash up, he cleaned the basin and put it away, then rushed straight over: "Wife, I'm here."
Liu Chuxue truly hadn't expected that usually so steady person to suddenly become so frisky: "Everyone's still awake, behave yourself."
Fu Yan Cheng hopped down from the bed in a flash, yanked the curtain shut, and shamelessly climbed back on: "Wife, on such a big day as today, it'd be strange if I could behave. I don't know how long I've been waiting to bring you home—not a moment do I want to wait."
Liu Chuxue was startled by his words: "Don't you go doing anything rash, careful someone might be listening at the wall."
Fu Yan Cheng heard this and laughed uncontrollably: "Wife, what on earth were you just thinking?"
Liu Chuxue, finding herself held in Fu Yan Cheng's arms, suddenly realized she'd gotten the wrong idea. She laughed coyly, raised her fist, and punched him: "Did you do it on purpose?"
Fu Yan Cheng, playing dumb at this point, asked: "Wife, what do you mean by that? I don't understand."
The two laughed and tumbled into a heap, their laughter carrying all the way to the third brother's room next door.
Zhang Yurong glanced outside, then drew her curtain too, sidled up to Fu Yanhong, and called out coquettishly: "Yanhong."
Fu Yanhong understood her meaning instantly, but said something that killed the mood: "We've been trying so long with no result, one more day won't matter. We're both tired today, let's rest early."
Zhang Yurong, hearing this, plopped herself right into Fu Yanhong's lap: "How can that be? My belly just hasn't shown any movement—that only proves you haven't been trying hard enough."
Fu Yanhong, hearing his wife harp on the same old tune, said helplessly: "Wife, I know you're desperate for a child, but we've been trying hard these past few months. How about I go with you to the hospital for a checkup—maybe there's a problem with our bodies?"
Zhang Yurong immediately went "Ptoo, ptoo, ptoo," spitting three times on the ground: "What nonsense! I gave birth to Jinyi—how could there possibly be a problem?"
Fu Yanhong, afraid she wouldn't listen, finally told her about going to see a doctor a few days earlier: "My body is fine, so it's very likely you hurt your body when you gave birth to Jinyi. Our goal is the same—to have a son—so you have to listen to me."
Only after Fu Yanhong had used every sweet word he had did Zhang Yurong agree to go to the hospital with him tomorrow for the checkup.
Early the next morning, Guo Wenjing, the eldest sister-in-law, was up bright and early.
Thinking that once the youngest brother and his wife made their return visit they'd be splitting the household, and that the days of the whole family eating together were numbered, and on top of that the fourth brother's wife had just married in, she wanted to make sure these few days were pleasant for her.
But not long after entering the kitchen, the second sister-in-law—who had always been shirking work—also came in: "Eldest sister-in-law, the sun's already up to your backside and that couple still hasn't gotten up. Honestly, you don't know what to say about them."
Guo Wenjing glanced at Hao Yanhong as if looking at a fool, and quickly moved farther away from her: from now on it was best to keep her distance from this second sister-in-law, lest she catch some of that foolishness.
