Chapter 1206: Liu Chuxue's Little Scheme
Liu Chuxue did not expect that her offhand remark earlier had truly weighed on her uncle's mind: "Auntie, please thank Uncle for me. I'll go pick it up when I return from the military dependents' compound. I won't come in to sit; Fu Yan Cheng is still waiting for me in the car over there. I'll stop by my eldest uncle's house first, then head back to my mother's place."
Xiao Nianchun followed Liu Chuxue's gaze and spotted the jeep parked over there: "Then I won't keep you. Whenever you come over, I'll have your uncle make braised pork for you."
Liu Chuxue nodded with a smile: "It's a deal then. I've been missing Uncle's cooking quite a bit."
Thinking of her second brother's little baby, Xiao Nianchun slapped her forehead: "Wait a moment."
Saying this, she took the dried seafood Liu Chuxue had given her, turned, and trotted back to the ticket office. When she emerged again, she held two milk powder coupons in her hand: "Please give this to your father for me. Your uncle managed to get them exchanged. There are only these two for now; later we'll try to exchange for more with someone else."
This was a matter between her and her brother; she had no reason to refuse on his father's behalf: "Alright, I promise to deliver it. I'll thank you and Uncle on behalf of my younger brother whom I've yet to meet."
Xiao Nianchun rolled her eyes at Liu Chuxue: "Look at what you're saying. That's my own nephew; exchanging a few milk powder coupons is only right."
The two chatted a bit more before a couple came to buy tickets. Liu Duxue told her aunt to get back to work and strolled toward the car parked by the roadside.
Fu Yan Cheng had been waiting by the car. After settling her in, he then jogged over to the driver's seat.
Liu Chuxue glanced at the watch on her wrist: "At this hour, my eldest aunt should be home."
Fu Yan Cheng started the car and said as he drove: "It's fine; it's on the way anyway."
Hearing him say that, Liu Chuxue laughed outright: "You really dare to say that. This 'on the way' will probably mean running an extra dozen li."
Seeing his wife smile, Fu Yan Cheng said: "Anyway, we have time; it's just a matter of pressing the accelerator."
Actually, he had heard people say that pregnant women should not enter the confinement room, fearing a clash.
But he felt awkward saying it directly to his wife, so he thought to delay their return to the Xiao family's home.
In truth, Liu Chuxue had thought of this long ago. She knew her mother's temperament all too well, but as an older sister, how could she not go in to take a look at her younger brother? So she had already made up her mind.
Normally, under current circumstances, it would be best to keep her pregnancy hidden first and announce it only after three months had passed; that would be safer.
But now, naturally, she could not hide it. Whether she was allowed in to see her brother was up to her mother to decide. Moreover, revealing her pregnancy would spare her much trouble, since her mother was likely focused entirely on her son now.
If she were blocked from entering the confinement room, it might even save her a good deal of trouble.
It was just that in that case, her eldest sister and maternal great-aunt would have to endure more hardship.
When they arrived at the railway dependents' compound, her eldest aunt was sorting vegetables, while her eldest cousin's son, Ji Yaoyang, was causing trouble beside her: "Eldest aunt, are you busy?"
Zhang Haitang heard the voice, looked up, and met Liu Chuxue's smiling eyes: "Liu Chuxue is here; come in quickly and sit."
Saying this, she lifted Ji Yaoyang, who had been squatting there making a mess: "Yaoyang, call Second Aunt."
Ji Yaoyang was a lively child. He raised his pair of dirty little hands and tried to throw himself into Liu Chuxue's arms, but his own grandmother, quick-eyed and quick-handed, grabbed him by the collar: "Your little hands are terribly dirty; you can't throw yourself into Second Aunt's arms."
Fu Yan Cheng, who had entered a step later, had also been startled just now. He took a few steps to stand beside Liu Chuxue, looking as though he would simply lift the little rascal away if he tried to pounce, which made Liu Chuxue laugh.
