The couple didn't stay long with their aunt-in-law; after delivering the gifts and playing with their young nephew Yaoyang, they took their leave.

When they arrived at her natal home and exchanged pleasantries with her elder sister and aunt, they told them about her pregnancy: "Elder sister, go tell Mom I'm pregnant and ask if she'll let me enter the confinement room."

Xia Qiu immediately glanced at her aunt, saw her nod, then turned and stepped into the confinement room hung with red cloth strips.

As soon as she entered, Xiao Mu asked: "Who's here?"

Xia Qiu placed the disposable diapers she'd brought in on the head of the kang: "It's Liu Chuxue back."

Upon hearing it was Liu Chuxue, Xiao Mu's eyes lit up instantly: "Why didn't she come in? Our Shi Tou will be the pillar for all three of you sisters—you all must treat him well."

Xia Qiu folded the diapers in her hands: "It's not that she won't come in—she just found out she's pregnant, and sent me in to ask if you'll let her enter."

You know how hard it is to get formula coupons now—before, she had coupons and was helping your brother Junjun, but now that she's pregnant, how much will be left for your brother?"

These words were clearly heard by Liu Chuxue and Miao Yiqiu standing in the courtyard.

Miao Yiqiu cursed inwardly: What a fool.

She sighed inwardly and quickly stepped in to smooth things over: "She's just worried your brother won't get milk—she has no other intent. Besides, we're one big family—surely we can scrape together a few formula coupons each month for Shi Tou."

She spoke loudly enough to ensure the stepdaughter inside wouldn't say another thoughtless word and hurt Liu Chuxue's feelings.

Hearing this, Xiao Mu realized her mistake, looked outside, and saw not only her second daughter and stepmother, but also her second son-in-law standing there—her face burned. She recalled her eldest daughter's earlier question: "Well then, since she's pregnant, don't let her enter the confinement room—it might bring bad luck to anyone."

Xia Qiu glanced out the window, then picked up her awake younger brother: "Shi Tou, let Big Sister carry you to the window so your second sister and brother-in-law can see you."

Xiao Mu didn't object—after all, the temperature inside and outside was the same, so no fear of drafts: "Yes, let's go ask your second sister and brother-in-law for a big red envelope."

Liu Chuxue had prepared one, of course—but for Xiao Mu to say it so bluntly made her feel deeply annoyed.

Miao Yiqiu frowned and glanced into the room: She didn't even know what to say—ever since giving birth to a son, she's acted like a freed serf singing triumphantly.

Xia Qiu's expression was grim: Even if it were just Liu Chuxue here, fine—but now her sister's husband is right here, and to openly demand a red envelope—how will the second son-in-law view our family? How embarrassing for her second daughter?

The only one truly pleased here was Fu Yan Cheng: If his mother-in-law didn't let his wife enter the confinement room, fine—he didn't care what she wanted. Besides, they'd already prepared the red envelopes beforehand; whether or not his mother-in-law asked today, they'd give them anyway—he saw nothing wrong with it.
