Chapter 1656: The Second Day of the New Year: Visiting the Maiden Home

~4 min read 757 words

After the New Year's Eve dinner, because the children were still too young, Liu Chuxue didn't stay to keep watch over the night here.

Granny Wei and her grandchildren didn't come over to this side; they spent the New Year on their own at Liu Chuxue's little courtyard.

Liu Chuxue was thinking of them in her heart, so she took the children back early.

Father Fu and Mother Fu helped see them to the gate, exchanged greetings with Granny Wei and the others, and only then turned back.

Not long after they got home, snow began to drift down from the sky, and it grew heavier and heavier. Zhui Feng got excited for no apparent reason and went tearing around the courtyard for a while before finally settling down.

Granny Wei brushed the snow off him: "It's snowing, and it's cold outside. Tonight let him sleep indoors with me, so he doesn't freeze."

Because the triplets had woken late, they had arranged with their mother-in-law in advance to have breakfast at the little courtyard.

As it happened, Mother-in-law Fu sent over a basin of dumplings first thing in the morning: "Just out of the pot, eat them while they're hot."

The dumplings in Granny Wei's pot had just come out too: "Perfect timing, the dumplings here are also just out of the pot. Take some back so everyone can taste my filling."

When Mother Fu carried the basin back into the courtyard, Guo Wenjing was taken aback: "Why'd you bring it back again?"

Mother Fu laughed: "Their dumplings came out of the pot too. Elder Sister Wei gave us some for you all to try her handiwork."

Guo Wenjing laughed: "Granny Wei's cooking is good, that dumpling filling is bound to be well-seasoned too."

Once Mother Fu sat down in her seat, everyone waited to see the couple pick up their chopsticks before they started eating.

After eating the dumplings Mother Fu had brought back, Hao Yanhong spoke up first: "No wonder Fourth Sister-in-law and the others wanted to stay over at the little courtyard—Granny Wei's filling is top-notch."

As she spoke, she gave a thumbs-up.

The others also gave unanimous praise.

Mother Fu laughed: "Later on, I'll ask her for tips. Once I've learned, I'll teach you all."

Guo Wenjing turned to look at her mother-in-law: "That'd be wonderful."

On the second day of the New Year, the daughters-in-law were to visit their maiden homes; on the third day, they were to gather with Eldest Brother's family. Father Fu had gone out early to wait at the street corner for his daughter and grandson.

Seeing Fu Yanwan and the others knew that their sisters-in-law were visiting their maiden homes today, so they set out early.

From afar they spotted Father Fu waiting there: "Dad, it snowed so heavily last night—why did you still come out to wait for us?"

Father Fu reached out his hand: "It's just that I missed my little Guoqing, so I came out to wait."

"Come on, let's get home. Your mom's been busy since early morning, all to entertain our daughter, son-in-law, and my little Guoqing."

Thinking of something, he looked at Yanwan and said: "Your room has been tidied up for you too. You all can stay on this side these few days—it's livelier."

Seeing Fu Yanwan was naturally willing: "Sure. Tomorrow I'll take Second Sister-in-law to handle the work handover, and after that we'll stay here until school starts."

Father Fu then thought of something and looked at his son-in-law, who was carrying things in both hands: "Have you two discussed it? How are you arranging things for the child?"

Seeing Fu Yanwan looped her arm through Father Fu's: "Dad, there's no rush. There's still some time before school starts anyway. We'll talk about it later."

As they were almost at the front door, they spotted Mother Fu standing at the main gate from afar.

Seeing them approach, Mother Fu came forward and took her grandson from Father Fu's arms: "Oh my, Grandma's little Guoqing is finally here. Your dad and mom sure wrapped you up snug."

Once inside and the bundle was unwrapped, the little fellow gave them a big, beaming smile, which delighted Father Fu and Mother Fu no end.

Each of them took out a big red envelope: "Here, here, this is from Grandma and Grandpa. Have your mom save it for our Guoqing, to save up for a wife when he grows up."

The moment Mother Fu said this, it made Seeing Fu Yanwan laugh.
