Chapter 1707: Moving House
That person in charge did not flatly refuse, saying he would go with them to take a look first before deciding.
Knowing Fu Yan Cheng had a car, he said, "I happen to have time right now; I'll go with you to take a look."
What he did not expect was that upon arriving, he immediately took a liking to that small courtyard.
The courtyard was not large, but it was kept elegant and clean.
Most properties here were private holdings, so there was no chaos, but it was still somewhat unsuitable as a liaison office; it was more suitable for their family to live in: "How much rent does this house require?"
Liu Chuxue did not know what he meant; after a moment's consideration, she quoted the price: "Renting the entire courtyard for a month is twenty yuan."
That person smiled and said, "Can it be cheaper? It's not for a liaison office; I want to rent it myself."
Liu Chuxue was stunned for a moment: "There are free houses available for liaison offices, yet you want to rent one yourself?"
That person smiled and said, "My mother fell a while ago and broke her lower leg. My wife recently asked her former comrades for help and had her job transferred here. Now, housing at every unit is quite tight; she just arrived and won't be assigned any good housing, so I thought it would be nice for us to simply rent a house."
Thus, the willow planted without intent cast a shade; before they had even moved out of this house, the courtyard had already been claimed by someone.
After the matter was settled, that person in charge handed Fu Yan Cheng a business card: "My name is Su Hongxing."
Fu Yan Cheng drove the person back, then went to the Houhai Subdistrict Office to explain the situation to Aunt Sun: "Auntie, you must be about to get off work at this hour."
Fang Ruyu glanced at the watch on her wrist: "Indeed, it's almost time to get off work."
Fu Yan Cheng took a paper bag out of the car: "This was bought at Quanjude when Chuxue and I passed by while running errands earlier; take it back for you and Uncle to eat."
Fang Ruyu did not need to look; just by the smell, she knew what it was and refused to accept it no matter what.
Fu Yan Cheng said, "This is us juniors showing respect to you and Uncle. If you push it away again, we won't dare accept your invitations to meals next time."
Fang Ruyu could only smile and accept it: "You must not do this again in the future. You now have three children to raise, and your wife is attending school; expenses are everywhere. Do not be too generous with your hands; you must save and spend carefully."
Fu Yan Cheng did not mind her nagging; on the contrary, he felt deeply gratified in his heart, for only someone who treated them as family would speak this way.
With the addition of Song Sanrui and his wife, Aunt Wei indeed saved a great deal of worry, and Wei Wenbin no longer had to rush home in a panic immediately after class, always thinking of helping his grandmother share more of the burden.
Of course, Liu Chuxue was the same; her classes became more calm and confident.
Time quickly reached the end of the month. Because Fu Yan Cheng had to go on a mission, the matter of finding a construction team after the courtyard was vacated fell to Song Sanrui.
This house had already been fully repaired before; now, it only required blocking the moon gate leading to the second courtyard and opening a door leading outward next to the empty space beside the side rooms.
The workload was not large; everything was completed in two days.
Originally, Liu Chuxue wanted to hire several laborers to help with the move, but Song Sanrui absolutely would not agree: "Sister-in-law, Xiaomi and I can borrow a handcart from next door to get the job done; there is truly no need to waste that money."
In November, they moved. There were seven main rooms and two side rooms on each side, east and west.
The middle main room served as the hall. Liu Chuxue and her family lived in the easternmost room. Originally, Aunt Wei wanted to live in a side room, but Liu Chuxue did not agree and directly assigned her the main room on the west side.
Wei Wenbin and Song Sanrui's couple lived in the east side rooms. One of the west side rooms became a storage room, and the other became the kitchen.
The small courtyard where they had originally lived was also rented to Comrade Su Hongxing.
When Fu Yan Cheng returned from his mission, it was already near the end of the month.
