Chapter 1742: Why Do You Feel a Little Off Today
Seeing that if he didn't speak up his daughter-in-law would get angry, Division Commander Guan quickly laughed and said, "An amazing memory, first in the whole department on every exam — do you know what that means?"
Geng Yanwen's eyes went wide: "That impressive? When it comes time for job assignments after graduation, wouldn't she be able to go wherever she wants?"
Division Commander Guan nodded slightly: "I hear some units are already keeping an eye on her, and a few have specifically requested her to come work for them after graduation."
Hearing her uncle's words, Yu Chunmei's eyes lit up: "No wonder Fu Yan Cheng didn't fancy me and chose Xiao Chuxue instead — looks like his eye for people really isn't bad."
Division Commander Guan, however, didn't agree: "You're excellent too — don't sell yourself short."
Geng Yanwen, also afraid his niece would start overthinking, said: "Didn't you say it yourself? Fate's a funny thing — when it's meant to be, it'll happen on its own."
Yu Chunmei just laughed: "Alright, look at the two of you getting all worked up. I genuinely admire her for being such a good student — I'm not being sour about it."
Liu Chuxue had no idea that the moment they left, Division Commander Guan arrived right behind them and went on praising her to the skies.
The reason they hadn't run into him was that they had gone through the hospital's back gate and into an alley inside, where Fu Yan Cheng had taken Liu Chuxue to grab some snacks.
This place sold all kinds of snacks, specifically meant to give patients and their families a little treat.
Because the flavors were authentic, business was booming.
In the morning there was soy milk, youtiao, sesame-seed baked buns, sugar-fired bread, thick steamed buns, oil-tea soup, fried liver — and of course steamed buns, steamed dumplings, and honey-twisted twists.
By noon it was braised offal, sesame noodles, zhajiang noodles, fried meatballs — and since the weather was hot, there was even sour plum juice and hawthorn curd.
At this hour breakfast was naturally long gone; Fu Yan Cheng had a big appetite, so he ordered a bit of each of the lunch items.
Liu Chuxue ate to her heart's content, and when they left she packed up two portions of braised offal and one of fried meatballs, thinking to bring them back to add to dinner and let her family have a taste.
She thought they'd head home after that, but to her surprise Fu Yan Cheng handed the packed food to the owner: "Hold onto these for us, we'll come back to pick them up later."
The owner, who had pulled strings and gritted his teeth to buy a refrigerator for the sake of business, said: "Sure, no problem. Once they've cooled down I'll put them in the fridge for you."
Liu Chuxue looked at Fu Yan Cheng: "We're not going home?"
Fu Yan Cheng nodded: "We're going to see a movie."
Liu Chuxue was a bit slow to react — what was going on with this man?
Fu Yan Cheng pulled her through the hospital's back gate, stuffed her into the car: "It's rare for us to get out like this, so naturally we have to have a proper date."
Liu Chuxue gave a start: "Why do you feel a little off today?"
Sure, she was the one who'd always been throwing around the phrase "date" before, but today this man was clearly acting strange.
Liu Chuxue tilted her head and looked at him: "What made you think of going to see a movie?"
Hearing the question, the tips of Fu Yan Cheng's ears instantly went red: "I saw those young couples at your school all love going to the movies together. I can't always be by your side, so when I get the chance I have to make up for it."
Liu Chuxue froze at those words, then suddenly felt this man was awfully cute: "Fu Yan Cheng, I didn't expect you to think this much about it."
Fu Yan Cheng laughed: "I'm so much older than you — if I don't put in the effort, I'm afraid one day you'll be swept away by someone else."
Though it was said in jest, it was also the truth. There were so many outstanding boys at her school, and he was busy with work. Even though he came back to the city on his days off to be with his wife and children, his wife was just too outstanding — he had to stay on his guard.
Hearing him say that, Liu Chuxue burst out laughing: "Not bad — you've got a sense of crisis. Good, keep it up."
