Chapter 254: Full Harvest

~4 min read 786 words

These words were overheard by Aunt Cuihong passing by: "Uncle Eryin, even if you have a grudge with the Shanliang family, you can't close your eyes and speak lies, can you? Their whole family is no different from being evicted with nothing; once cut off, it's cut off."

"Besides, the Fifth Uncle's family hasn't complained yet; Uncle Eryin, why are you so eager to speak up for them? What benefits did they give you?"

"What nonsense are you spouting? When did I ever take any benefits?"

By now, the Party Secretary, who had been listening for half a day, said irritably, "Instead of thinking about how to live your own life well, you spend every day worrying about other people's business."

Just then, Liu's father also came out: "Thank you all for your concern about my family's affairs, but anyone with eyes can see what I went through before; please keep your words kind in the future."

Upon hearing these words, everyone naturally understood who he was talking about.

Liu's father greeted the Party Secretary and then walked home, as there were still many things to do today.

When he arrived home, Liu's mother was sweeping the courtyard: "You're back. Are your in-laws all well?"

"Mm, all well. Where is Liu Chuxue?"

"She went to catch fish; she probably won't be back until noon."

After finishing her cleaning, Liu's mother said, "We've moved house; I'll start working tomorrow. Even if our daughter is capable, she can't skip work; this concerns the grain distribution after autumn."

Liu's father nodded: "I'll go to the fields tomorrow too. If I can't do heavy work, I'll do some light tasks; if I can't do much, I'll do less, but it's not good to sit idle at home."

Liu's mother was somewhat worried: "Better listen to Liu Chuxue; rest for a while longer. If you get exhausted and leave a chronic illness, that would be bad."

"It's fine; I know my own body and won't push myself."

Though she felt bad about those work points, she was still worried about her husband's legs: "No, go see the Party Secretary and ask him to arrange a light job for you; we can't lose the big for the small."

Liu's father thought this made sense: "Alright, when Liu Chuxue returns later, we'll go to deliver the thank-you gift and mention it to him then."

At this moment, Liu Chuxue had already reached the water pool; scanning the area with her spiritual sense and finding no one, she directly transferred some pool water into her space. Within moments, fish began swimming toward her. After transferring some more into her space, she headed straight into Shenshan.

Previously, because the family was building a new house, even when entering the mountains, she wouldn't go too deep, fearing something might happen at home while she was away.

Today there was nothing to worry about; since it was still early, she might as well walk deeper.

Crossing the water pool, she chose a direction she had never visited before.

In a mountain hollow, she discovered a small patch of wild peach trees. Liu Chuxue loved peaches the most. Seeing that these peach trees included several varieties, she waved her hand and transferred two trees of each variety into her space.

This mountain hollow was truly a good place; walking further inside, she found quite a few medicinal herbs. Clearly, few people came here. She selected those with many years of growth and dug up quite a few, planning to plant them inside her space after returning to her room tonight.

Just as she prepared to leave, she discovered a pomegranate tree and, in high spirits, transferred it into her space.

The shepherd's purse at the hollow's entrance was very tender; she transferred some into her space, thinking to plant some so she wouldn't have to come out and dig whenever she wanted to eat them.

When she reached the foot of the mountain, she placed over a dozen fish weighing about two jin each into her backpack, along with some small miscellaneous fish. The large fish would serve as the thank-you gift, while those small miscellaneous fish she planned to dry into fish jerky to give to her older sister later as a snack.

Seeing her enter the courtyard, Liu's father said, "You're back."

As he spoke, he moved forward to lend a hand.

But Liu Chuxue said, "Don't move; I'll handle it myself."

Hearing the commotion, Liu's mother came out and saw the shepherd's purse on top of the backpack: "Oh, this shepherd's purse is so tender. Just in time, since we have today, I'll steam some shepherd's purse filling vegetarian buns for you."
